I already know what the story of Fallout 5 is!

    #VerifiedLeak

    • The game starts in a vault and your playable character opens into a cut-scene which takes 30 mins and ends with the phrase "war, war never changes"
    • The game then crashes.
    • After reloading you get to go through the same cut-scene again and choose a character name (from a list of 4 choices - specifically done this way to make the voiced protagonist easier to write dialogue for)
    • A button then comes up at the bottom of the screen, a caption above it reads "You are about to assign your S.P.E.C.I.A.L statistics"
    • The button has the word "yes" on it.
    • You press the button and a congratulatory noise is played as your stats are all set to 10. Your character now exits the vault (in another cut scene that you have no control over)
    • The game now crashes this time causing your console/PC to freeze entirely.
    • after rebooting & reloading (you can reload the game at the point of leaving the vault / the end of the 2nd cut scene the "yes" button pops into view once more with the caption "you are role-playing as a character with guns and armour"
    • The game will not continue until you hit the "yes" button.
    • Upon selecting "yes" you are given power armour and several plasma weapons (none of which ever existed previously in any fallout lore)
    • At this point there are no further assets in the game, the game release will coincide with the GECK release, and until modders make any content the game world is just blank, the only game asset that remains consistent is the "yes" button which serves as the only available dialogue option.
    • Any time a modder makes any content it is automatically copyrighted by Bethesda and implemented as a DLC available for £15 each.

Critics are already rating this game as GOTY 11/10, the game will cost £75 and you can get a "Beth-pass" for just £35 which allows you to add any two DLC, the Deluxe edition is available and will include the core game, one Beth-pass and a desktop background (800x640 resolution), limited availability for £150.

oh and I forgot the other small detail, the mod portal will only cost £7.50 per month.

You know what, I think it was one of Fallout 3's very few redeeming qualities. Hearing about Ronto teased an outside world, working without any direct intervention from the protagonist and the factions he/she encounters. That's good. That is supposed to be something you hear, in such universes.
I don't even want to see Ronto. It's fine to leave some things to the imagination. It's what makes a fictional world immersive. It's what got me into Fallout :

"To the west, you can see a natural light. For the first time in your life, you are looking at the outside world."
No animations. No description of what it's like. It leaves that to your own imagination, and the message is clear : this is your story. Not ours.

As far as I remember, there isn't any reference of the outside world in Fallout 4. Some brotherhood knights mention the Capital Wasteland from time to time. Cabot mentions the Mojave Desert. But these are previous titles' locations, nothing new. There's the chinese ghoul who mentions his hometown, Cait who mentions Ireland, but well. I doubt that we'll ever see these places in Fallout, for obvious reasons. Funny how nobody cares about someone from Europe, by the way. In any logical situation, Cait would be taken to custody and interrogated by the brotherhood about the outside world situation. This is something any local government with some influence NEEDS to know. Hell, I'm even baffled by how little the protagonist cares about the outside world. He/she's not even remotely interested in knowing if anybody outside of America survived.

    • Ronto
    • Flagstaff
    • Dogtown
    • Some town far south of the glow
    • New cannan.
    • Dayglow

Aye. But wasn't New Canaan burned to the ground by Caesar's auxiliaries, though ? I always have a doubt about which city Graham mentions, in Honest Hearts.
Dogtown/denver is also mentionned in New Vegas Killer, by the way. Someguy made some of the lore friendliest quests available on the nexus, with New Vegas Bounties. While New Vegas Killer is more of a joke mod, Bobby Bass still briefly mentions that he got chased by dogs near Denver, when he tried to avoid Legion's troops. It's a little something, but it's nice to have little echoes of the outside, even if it's just a little story, or a peak through the window.

Yeah, there's an alien city under the Mojave. Can't wait to discover the Enclave are actually aliens too (or Zetans? Who gives a fuck?) Mr House will be an alien too. The Lucky 38 is actually a UFO, because duhh it looks like one. Because this is the writing we're dealing with here.

And with the voiced protagonist I knew Bethesda would fail miserably at delivering on a pre-war character. If Fallout 4 were written intelligently there would be so much great dialogue to be had with a protagonist from the old world. Look at all the fun Black Isle had with a tribal character in Fallout 2. There's the initial confusion, the initial ignorance of everything over the last two hundred years, then the acceptance, then development, until finally people come to the protagonist for knowledge about the old world, rather than the protagonist's about the new. There's so much fun stuff to be done with a fish-out-of-water protagonist.

Bethesda didn't want to write an interesting Sleeper Awakes character. They were lazy and wanted to come up with a new way to have a blank slate character in the Fallout universe, to have yet another vault dweller even though there is no justifiable reason for there to still be vault dwellers 210 years after the Great War.

You wanted to have a protagonist interested in the Fallout post-apocalyptic universe? Too bad, Bethesda's more interested in marketing some worthless dog the internet forgets about within a month.

NMA as a community definitely should consider making a pact to not buy Fallout 5 if it's developed by Bethesda. Possibly waiting a solid 2 to 3 weeks after release to read reviews and watch Let's Play videos.

Fortunately though, there seems to be a growing resentment of Fallout 4 on the internet, so maybe Todd and pals will set their hubris aside and listen to fans for once. Starting by firing Emil.

Jokes aside, I don't think this is so hard task, understanding fallout evenespecially for the creators of TES. This is not another dimension, this is not lolrandum-yet-coherent Planescape, this is, let's face it, a projection of our world with post-apoc paint. /w talking mutants and ghouls, oh yeah.

People around here understands what Fallout is for example.

Last seen in 2006 lol. Seems like every single one of the bethesda staff just gone after some critique started kicking in. First RPGCodex after Oblivion review and apparently NMA after Fallout 3 Preview.

It'd be great to have come around again. He certainly seemed open to the communities opinions. He didn't really post enough for it to be PR... It'd be great if some Beth devs create some accounts here and participated in discussions.

Seems like rpgcodex really scarred them off. I remember the word filter triggering on 'rpgcodex' was an actual thing on bethesda forums. Don't know about now.

You probably didn't know or remember about Mass Effect 3 and the massive criticism it got and how Bioware pretty much attacked their fanbase for criticizing the game. Fun times.
