Automatron opinion thread.

It started with New Vegas, securitrons like Victor, Jane and, Yesman as well as the Sink personalities were the first non-supercomputer personalities in the Fallout series.
Of course New Vegas had explicit in-game explanations as to why these robots acted the way they did, it seems like Bethesda saw what they did and said to themselves "Yeah, we can do that!" and proceeded to fuck it up entirely.

The difference in FNV though is that the securitrons weren't AI, they had personality programs not sentience. Freaking Codsworth has affinity, like my character should give a shit what a piece of machinery thinks about what he does. Victor, Jane, Yesman are all programs who carry out those programs with no agency of their own. As for the Sink, that was wacky sci-fi and not much of a stretch to think that Mobius could create those personality programs, but once again programs not judgmental AI.

I think Yes Man, and the way securitrons in general were handled, is actually a very good object example of the difference between programmed personalities and actual AI, that Bethesda's writers can't seem to figure out.

Yes Man has a rudimentary personality, but he has huge flaws that he can't even see as a result of his programming being flawed in such a way that makes him literally unable to not serve you/Benny and do whatever his owner at the time wishes. His "yes man" persona is a direct result of the re-programming done by Benny, otherwise he would just be a standard securitron like the other cookie cutter ones around the strip with exactly the same faces and programs. He's more fun but he still has no ability to make a personal choice, just like the rest of them.

Jane is essentially the same thing but in a programmed girlfriend sort of way.

They have personalities but they are tied directly to the single purpose for which each of them is designed. They will never diverge from their purpose or change their mind, because it's hard coded.

All of the FO4 AI on the other hand, thinks they are people and that they get to have opinions about things. Making AI security/combat robots is even sillier as a result since these would be the perfect applications for things that DIDNT feel or have the ability to make choices.

The last thing you need is some killbot that decides it doesn't want to kill what you told it to.

For this money, i'd rather play Witcher 3 : Blood and Wine. 20 hours of solid gameplay has been promised, is that a joke bethesda? You probably made the same money as witcher 3 and you aren't working as hard as them for your "<<<<community>>>>" ?

That is because Bethesda is a lazy company that tries to put an ounce of effort into what it does and hopes to receive massive praise for it. They have been doing since oblivion and only they for some reason get these double standard passes given by community and overrated youtube reviewers like Jim Sterling and Angry Joe.

Tbh, Bethesda hasn't excelled at almost anything for a long time now and their shooting is pretty repetitive and the objective of shoot and loot they follow make the game so inconceivable boring that you quit way before you even get into deep crafting.

The game deserves at most a 5 out of 10. The DLC goes how much they deliberately rip off mods on Nexus Manager in an effort to cash and cut the author out entirely without really putting much thought into it. This is what people defend? This is the "Good Guy" As Angry joe and others think? Plagiarizing content already made by robco certified slapping on a new paint and delaying mod support to probably think of more ways to cash in on other peoples ideas? Even though the G.E.C.K was suppose to release in January.

Or how about the idea that she saw the only route to do good was to kill people and yet she is wondering around the Settlement.
Are we going to get Fallout 5: Attack of Jezebel?

Damn this game is broken.
Yeah I agree, I didn't trust her enough to give her weapons because I feared that she would go all Yurt the Silent Chief on my settlers in the night. I can understand that her programming doesn't perfectly mesh her two processors properly though, but she's such an unstable and nonrational AI that I could never trust her, I don't even know why we don't kill her like all the other robobrains. What exactly even defines her from the other, what makes her worth sparing while I go around and blow up the rest.

Or why can't we have her as a companion?
Or why anything?

God this game is stupid, I can't even play it and enjoy it anymore, the novelty of the game has worn off. ><

Happened to me a while ago. It's truly a sad moment when you realize the future of the series is most likely doomed, but that must have been the feeling many had when Fallout 3 dropped.

Yeah, I can see that now with F3, I still love F3, but its flaws are apparent, and it hasn't aged as well as New Vegas.
It's a good game just not a good Fallout game.
F4 on the other hand is just a bad game all around.
Maybe I was trying to ignore how bad it really was, but doing this comparison with NV and F4 has made me realise just how bad 4 truly is.

Welcome to the truth my son. May you wallow in your understanding.
