2 > NV > 1 > The Tabletop Game > Tactics > 3 > 4 > Actual Nuclear Fallout > BoS

I can't rank Shelter because I have no experience, it probably fits somewhere between 3 and the kind that actually kills you.

I'll spare you the trouble: It fucking sucks, is very boring once you have to play the resource management simulator part of the game(which is like the whole game), and it's slow when it comes to progression unless you want to use those microtransactions and pay with real money!

PoS is the best Fallout and yuu're all just dinosaurs who can't accept change.
Grumble grumble grumble...

So I will share my choice and seal the time of my vote for my post to make sense.
Doesn't look good for Bethesda that out of their 3 titles they got 1 out of 37 votes.
Before anyone sticks a sharpened spear into my eye, it was a toss up between 2 and NV. I picked NV based on hours played.

NV an embarrassing 1700 hours.
F2 guesstimate of under 300 hours

F2 is one of my favorite games and it was a hard choice.
Not looking good for Beth.png

It was hard to decide between Fallout 2 and Fallout New Vegas, but I have played more times FO2 over the years than New Vegas, and to be honest I only almost beat New Vegas once or twice and never really beat it, beat all the DLCs a few times.

Q: "But Risewild, why are you not beating one of the best Fallout games in existence?"

A: Because when I got FNV and it's DLCs in the Ultimate pack I played it until almost the end (I reached the battle of the dam) and then my saves got all messed up, so I had to restart and then I thought, since I have to restart the game I might as well mod it to "fix" some things I didn't like in vanilla, specially the HUD... after I was looking for nice small mods I stumbled upon the TTW (Tale of Two Wastelands) project, it was just started after the RFCW (Requiem For the Capital Wasteland) was dismissed.
I have been a part of that team for almost 4 years now and my main job is being the Lead Tester, which means I test way more the FO3 side of TTW than the FNV one, so most of my playing FNV is actually playing in FO3 .

FNV is in second place?

A classic Fallout game in first? And it's the one I like the least?

The only right line! PoS is best game and FO2 is worst.

YOU DIDN'T PUT FALLOUT 3 AND 4 IN FRONT OF TACTICS?! YOU"RE JUST A DINOSAUR WHO CAN'T ACCEPT THAT ISOMETRIC TURN-BASED IS A SYSTEM OF THE PAST. ACCEPT EVOLUTION!

I voted New Vegas but it's equal to Fallout 2 in my opinion. This was a really hard choice. New Vegas was my first Fallout, but the second one introduced me to isometric RPGs and is overall a fantastic game. They both have a great setting, good writing, memorable characters and offer a great roleplaying experience in general. As for FO1, it's fantastic and the setting is more coherent, but there's less content that 2 or NV and it is more linear.

One of the things that I really love in Fallout 2 is the way the dialogues are written. Those of New Vegas sometimes seems too formal while the second gave you multiple way to say the same things, which, while having no consequences, were great to give a personnality to your character. Also, the lcoations are more memorable than in NV in my opinion. New Reno, although it didn't make much sense, was great. On the other hand, the main quest of NV is more developped and the choices more morally ambiguous.

What convinced me to vote for New Vegas in the end is the potential of modding. There are some fantastic mods out there which enhance pretty much anything you want in the game.

I'd rank the games like this:
Modded NV > Fallout 2 > Vanilla NV > FO1 > FO3

I haven't played 4 and Tactics yet and there's no way I'm playing PoS.

My mistake! I have conflicting opinions on that. My only definite one is that Fallout 2 remains at the bottom, because we all know a coherent narrative is for babies, and that BoS remains at the top for it's cutting-edge graphics and revolutionary gameplay.

Damm right. Narrative coherence? What the fuck do they think Fallout is, a book?

Um... F2 is in first place. It's an alright game, but a masterpiece it ain't.

As far as RPG's go? Yeah it is.
Your mileage may vary, but in my opinion, it's an alright but seriously overrated game. F1 was a lot better, at the very least because it had interesting villains. It may be because I played 3 between 1 and 2 and I was just sick of them at that point, but the Enclave left a bad taste in my mouth. I could go on and on about how 2 is inferior in almost every way to 1, but I'm on mobile and typing hurts my thumbs.

*In old man voice* You youngsters think ya know what's best, with your shooty FPS elements and such that can't get into the classics. *Shakes fist*

On a serious note, why can't you get into them?

The most basic reason was that Fallout 1 had a difficulty curve. Fallout 2 had a difficulty wall. Besides that, there was a story I couldn't get into, characters I couldn't follow, confusing quest directions at best and so much backtracking. In NV, backtracking was alright because you had both fast travel and an interesting overworld. In F1, backtracking was alright because the random encounters weren't too punishing. In F2? Ugh. If the random encounters weren't enough to drive me insane, the tedious overworld map would. Is it just me, or is it slower in F2 than F1?

F2 is one of the hardest games to get into and, IMHO, isn't worth it. F1 is a far better, if shorter and less expansive, game. I do prefer some parts of F2 (I prefer the sense of humor it has compared to other games in the series) and it's alright, but it's only alright.

My main problem with both games (though not a total killer in F1's case) is the fact that they're turnbased, and apart from games like Civilization, I don't like turnbased gameplay. Yes, I know. I'm weird.

I don't think the directions were that confusing, in Fallout 1 you are guided straight to Vault 15 from the overseer or if you're doing the Brotherhood initiate quest then you can ask the guy next to Cabbot after picking up the quest about The Glow and he'll even mark it on your map so you can just click the red button next to The Glow...Same thing with Vault 15.

I do agree about the difficulty wall in Fallout 2 but you need to focus on putting points into your combat skills until you get them to atleast 120% or else you're not going to hit shit. Though if you focus on ranged combat then small guns is your best bet unless you use the Navarro trick for an energy weapons user. If it's about the Temple of Trials then kite the enemies, hit them with a punch since it's only 3 AP then run with rest of your AP so the enemies in there will waste theirs on chasing you.

Fallout 1 and 2 got me into turn based combat even though I went into it not liking turn based combat. Maybe if you can give it a chance you'll like it, it's not like Bethesda games where everything level scales with you.
