I'd say Fallout 2 is pretty much on the same level as New Vegas, and is almost able to capture the atmopshere of Fallout 1.

Huuumm......Not so much to the sky, nor so much to the sea IMHO. Vault City, Frisco, Reno, Broken Hills, Navarro. They do not remind me at all F1, except for the same 10 npcs haha. Take NCR for example, with all that fancy force fields, a clinic specializing in cyber technology and a police force with jaunty uniforms.

NV is heavily criticized for being very civilized, very advanced, but I think Fallout 2 is that way.

Ironic that the most interesting and fallout part of the game is what bethfans dislike about it. Its the only fallout game that can truly stand next to the first. Id argue it even outdoes the first in almost every way.

That's pretty much the gist of it, really. People who found to Fallout via Fallout 3 did so with all this completely ruined gameworld thing. For most of them, something being rebuild isn't really what Fallout is about, because none of it can be seen in Fallout 3.

I'd say F2 kinda bombed out.
I mean fallout 2 has enough good that I can enjoy it as a fallout game but I wouldn't put it on the same level as one and new vegas. Its like a mix of the best aspects of fallout one and the worst aspects of the bethesda fallouts.

And when you look at it that makes no sense. You can't criticise a sequel for going back to the series roots. Fallout 3 wasn't fallout. If you play fallout one for like an hour anyone could see that.

I don't think the "It's civilized" criticism is a good one.

Sure Fallout 1 was far less civilised, the towns felt a lot more like slummy shitholes where everyone's at each others back, but it wasn't totally destroyed either. it always felt like every town and city had some good in it, and had the chance to grow in to something better. The game never gave this "Everything will be shit forever" feel. It just felt like a somewhat lawless desert land.

A few generations on, everything's improved, and we're starting to get far more advanced nations. It's the natural progression of the Fallout Universe.

Maybe Fallout 2's NCR could have been a little more lawless(Like a couple of muggers somewhere, or some kind of conflict going on, maybe something that doesn't make it feel like a total utopia), but for it to be technologically advanced with cyber technology and force fields is entirely natural for the capital of a quickly expanding nation.

I agree that the criticism is whitout foundation. This is what people expect when play a Fallout game (even for the first time):

(LOVE the artwork, btw)

You can have part of this in all the Fallouts. PART OF THIS is the key here.

A quick jorney into Bethesda forum and you can find people complain that Fallout 4 or Fallout NV is not a survival game anymore.

But wait. Since when Fallout is a survival game? Since when Fallout is ALL about Nuclear war? To me is about the USA after a nuclear armagedon and the communities that emerged after. Yes, you can have BOMBS, and RADIATION and DESTROYED BUILDINGS, but first and foremost it is about society.

I never see the TV show, but has anyone read The Walking Dead? It´s the same thing. There´s nothing more wrong then say that Walking Dead is about zombies.

I just watched the Fallout 4 intro for the first time and IMO, it's the best. It was fucking brilliant and very realistic. Based on Fallout 4 let's play videos though, Fallout 4 still looks like a shitty game compared to the previous Fallout games though.

This has been one of my favorite pics, since Fallout first came out. You have a sexy Redhead in a tight blue suit with an assault rifle, you have a Conan the barbarian looking guy next to her who is armed to the teeth, surrounded by hundreds or thousands of ghouls in Necropolis... Both of them look fearless and ready to kick some ass. But most likely both of them will be eaten alive by ghouls. It's the epitome of what Fallout should be, IMO. Sexy and cool but also a hellish wasteland that shows no mercy.

Ghouls aren't known to eat people.

Ghouls aren't known to eat people.

Right, the only rare case being Set, but overall, I think the eating thing that other ghouls state is most likely their way of joking, since they...well..know they look like a fucking zombie.

As for the best intros, it's gotta be Fallout 1, honestly. The way the TV flicks off as the camera zooms out to show the devastation, the sad song of "maybe" echoing out into the desolate ruins. It's definitely a skin crawling moment.

NV Feels epic after Benny shoots you, the booming music, whereas the beginning is a softer tone, most likely for the added suspense during Benny's introduction when the music goes for a turn.

@CerberusGate I always thought F2 was the sacred cow of the franchise.
Depends. I notice that as much as people may like it, those people (along with others) also criticize it all the time. I myself like 2 though I criticize its faults and the effects of said faults (excessive pop-culture references anyone?).

1 however is one I like and find little fault (there are faults but nothing like 2's faults though it is not my favorite Fallout game, that's either 2 or NV). Others seem to like 1 as well and the vibe I get is that 1 can't be topped from venerable spots (doesn't have to be first in their minds, just be in good regard).

Well gotta with the classics and pick the original one. It's one of the best intros out there and the music really helps nail it.

So you are saying a bunch of feral ghouls who are starving won't enjoy some human flesh? They'd just let it go to waste and order some pizza instead?
Feral Ghouls are a product of Bethesda shitty writing, though. There were never any 'ferals' in the originals.

Once I find a piece of human flesh after loot a ghoul's body in repccon headquarters. But that was just the GECK clowning around. =p

This.
Ghouls in originals were not feral. Some of them were assholes - and is highly probable that some of them were cannibals and some were definitely insane - but most of them were not that different from your regular wastelander, appearance aside.

I was playing Fallout recently. And in Necropolis, I noticed ghouls that were feral. The ones in packs, near the man holes. If you get too close, they attack and the text above them shows that they are feral and not just assholes.

Just reloaded my Necropolis savegame. Even the most hostile and less talkative ghouls can say some words between their grrr. And they don't run at you as if their body was in good shape.
