Bethesda announces E3 conference, Fallout 4 rumors heat up

I sincerely hope that Obsidian does not develop the next Fallout, in response to some of the other comments in this thread. Not only was Obsidian forced to use already established tools from the G.E.C.K., which means they found themselves having to use the crappy Gamebryo engine provided to them, meaning they would likely be forced to use that same crap dressed up all pretty - a.k.a. the Creation engine, but they would also be forced into a deadline again, which, as seen with New Vegas, led to a ton of cut content which made the game feel very incomplete.

I love what Obsidian did with New Vegas - do not get me wrong. But with the current limitations they would find themselves having to utilize, I would prefer seeing Bethesda upgrade its tools first and produce some real quality before their next collaborative works.

There actually isn't a lot cut content in New Vegas.

Really? I seem to recall that they cut an actually well-done post-ending gameplay, Legion settlements and a Legion companion, and other things I can't remember right now.

Also, E3 is taking place June 16-18, and there are apparently (or so people say) trustworthy industry insiders (ie: not Jason Schreier) who have hinted that Fallout 4 is definitely the game Bethesda is going to announce.
For some reason I have a bad feeling about an E3 announcement. I can't really explain it, but I simply feel that a Fallout 4 announced at an E3 would be worse than the most bitter pessimist's worst nightmare. Well, I guess we'll see soon enough, the first gameplay trailer will answer all our questions.

The Legion was cut by almost 40-45%, which removed most of their settlements and quite a bit of their quest-line, along with a fully-functional Legion companion, with New Vegas itself also being downscaled to cater to consoles more (another thing they were forced by Bethesda/Zenimax to do). That is just what I know about - who knows what else was inevitably cut. I have no idea why you think there was not much content that was cut from Fallout: New Vegas.

It's true that Ulysses was cut (largely because of localization problems, I'm given to understand) but most of the Legion content was never really implemented in the first place. It was out of scope, so they downsized their plans for the Legion. It's something the NV devs have claimed they regret over and over, because it placed too much emphasis on the NCR and House, but it is what it is.

What WUE says. The stuff probably existed on paper, but not in the game.

There are a few mods that re-add existing cut content back into the game and ultimately it's simply not a lot. Most of what was nailed down made it into the final game.

/Edit: Additionally I don't know what exactly you mean with "New Vegas itself also being downscaled to cater to consoles more" - lack of NPCs and the added walls at the Strip? Even on actual PCs, if you use mods to remove the walls and re-add more NPCs, the game isn't running fluid anymore. It's simply an engine thing and not solely due to consoles.

I really wish you would stop pretending that ignorance of something can equal knowledge of said something. Legion locations are actually in the game - if you use mods to get through the invisible walls, they can even be traveled to and explored. I was never referring to just ideas on paper - I am referring to actual in-game locations that were hidden away and were never finished because of the deadline imposed by Bethesda.

Secondly - I remember an interview with one of the Obsidian devs, in which they stated that New Vegas was supposed to be much larger, but was reduced in size and points of interest, because the consoles of that time were not able to handle it. Even after downsizing, they still had to shove a ton of loading gates all through New Vegas.

Third - I use the mod that removes the loading gates, and the game still runs perfectly. Please do not project what might happen to you or others, onto everyone.

IIRC there was little to none Legion cities in the actual game, only the space with nothing on them, just dirt or some marks. The closest thing that got in the game was ( again IIRC) the Malpates or something camp, where you would meet Benny if you choose to free him.

I think that Honest Hearts could have been a more focused Legion DLC, instead of Zion we could had some Legion towns or something like that, it could be great. New Vegas if had more time would be a better game than it already is.

There were no Legion locations that were cut after implementations. The fort got scaled down so the Living quarters weren't accessible (altho they are fully navmeshed), and there is a Cell with the name Malpais Camp but the cut content in New Vegas was mostly at the conceptual stage or for optimization propouses. The stuff Uncut re-adds is for the most part small things, except for the Strip and Freeside being a single space. There is that settlement with 1 quest and I guess. The rest were NPCs removal, custom animated sequences they never got to polish up properly so they cut down and those 2 Robots in Vault 22.
