    bethseda you so silly

if anything fans got confused about the plotline of your IP when you made it a stupid plotline :-p

interplay should probably sue bethseda for reducing sales of fallout1,2 by the identical logic bethseda brings up

Pretty sure Bethesda increased them, not decreased. F1/F2, like the would-be Interplay MMO, rides on the coattails of F3/NV.

The IP's value was pretty minimal when they bought it, especially after alienating the IP's active fanbase. It has value again because they made a new game just as the franchise would have had they not bought the IP and called Fallout 3 something different. The reason that Fallout 3 got the press it did during development was because Bethesda bought the press, just as the would have regardless. They had to spend a lot of money on PR to build up brand recognition with Fallout 3 because most people didn't recognize the franchise.

But didn't Bethesda undermine Fallout's cannon first?

Yes, but apparently that's okay as long as you own the IP first. Sort of like buying the Mona Lisa and painting on a mustache.

I really feel for the Judge (or whoever?) who has to read through that thing. I can't see anyone not rolling their eyes or getting finally pissed off by the time they reach the "Mean Interplay is trying to undermine me!" part (The amount of times they unnecessary repeat "Bethesda" and "Interplay" is also annoying, it's like they can't construct sentences that follow on the previous ones, though it could be a legal-thing). Who could ever care for some game's canon in the Judicial System, I mean when said canon is (actually highlighted as, if I understand correctly) largely irrelevant for the issue at hand??

Nah, if Bethesda would have had their way with the Mona Lisa they'd make it look like this:

"The ambiguous expression of the old Mona Lisa confused the audience.", said the PR.

But if we follow your argument and line of thinking we still can say that FO3 is a piece of crap because FNV sold better than him, right?

And everybody bash Bethesda but I still haven't forgotten Interplay dishing F3 aka Van Buren for F:PoS.

Bethesda is a moneygrubber and the latest huge move of Interplay is...porting MDK2 for Wii. :?
I'm not happy with either Bethesda OR Interplay.

Make no mistake, a lot of us don't like either company.
My wish would be that either Obsidian gets the IP or it is retired before every classy element it had is dragged through the mud and transformed into 'for lulz' for an extremely fickle audience.

I think FNV is most likely Fallout's swan song and that after it the games will become more and more ridiculously while fully transforming into stat FPS/hiking simulators with loads of loot sites.
And to me that goes completely against the spirit of the original.

But we live in an age in which everything is milked out, reinvented, and milked out some more until its nothing but an empty husk.
I honestly don't pretend that Fallout was some kind of art piece but at least it had character.

If video games or interactive media can in any way be considered "art", then I think the first game in particular is a shining example of it. I remember running around the prototype vault under the cathedral wearing nothing but a robe and thinking "Oh man, I might be in way over my head." That's a real feeling. Fallout 3 evoked zero real feelings from me. I'm pretty sure that's what art's supposed to do, make you feel things.

Edit: Scratch that, I guess F3 made me feel like my voice didn't matter and that a part of my childhood had been raped and taken from me. Like a Korn song. I guess Korn is kind of art. *raises a fist toward the heavens* You got me again Bethesda!

I thought Bethesda did a good job of undermining Fallout 3's plot all by themselves.

Even if it were true, good. "Fallout" 3 was a piece of shit. I would elaborate but I have done that enough over the years. This is a rather ridiculous trial... but I do hope Bethesda loses.

Expect Bethesda to make Fallout 4 after Skyrim and no matter how crappy it'll be, it'll be another craptastic game of the year voted by gaming journalism.

My guess: We'll see flying BOS Troopers saving the earth from evil Aliens, Raiders and Supermutants with hillarious big old world Robots.
No wait, that was already Fallout 3's plot...

You really like to make your imaginary worlds to fuel yoru denial? whatever you think about FO3 it has a HUGE fandom and of ocurse has a rpeutation, wehter it is accurate or if it actualy deserves it is another story.

In Skyrim when you level up you get PERKS...
If Beth keeps blending FO - tes...

My guess: We'll see BOS dragon riders saving the earth from evil oblivion's aliens; raiders and supermutants with big robots fighting the Enclave and demons in an epic battle.
I feel bad even for tes fans.

An epic battle consisting of about ten people, in order to protect towns consisting of four people. That's more Beth's style.

I'm sure that's why Interplay's Fallout 3 was already 90% complete, because it was dead.

So Bethesda wants them to not use any existing elements of the Fallout universe, yet at the same time is upset if world contradicts what does exist in the Fallout universe. Seems sort of contradictory.

    I am confused...
what is it exactly a Fallout game?
    Fallout was a great game
Fallout 2 was another great game (my favorite) but a bit different, more grim with silly black humor and stupid jokes. Many FO fans were enraged by this heresy against their beloved game.
FO3 came out and it was a tes game with some random Fallout things in it.
now there is NV wich is a tes game blended with a bit of Van buren and some old FO cut content.
Every Fallout is very unique, even the ones with the same engine.
Its like if every FO has his own lore and vibe.
IMHO everyone has a different FO icon his mind. Maybe any sequel is going to disappoint someone in some way but I dont see anyone happy with a MMORPG using either beth or IP humor.
