Bethesda Softworks Announces Creation Kit and DLC

The amount of work necessary to mod Fallout 3 into any kind of game even resembling the originals is just titanic.

As I haven't played FO3 I don't know how much different the system is, but at least it's encouraging that this kit will make the modding easier.

Even in oblivion the finishing touch was done by the fans, it's nothing new.

So will the premise for Operation Anchorage be that you are fighting in a Virtual Reality world? That's what "simulation" makes it sound like. I also have to wonder if they will be able to hack it with so much emphasis on combat and not as much on exploration and quests.

Will VATS be used? Because I thought that (for Bethesda) the PipBoy was exclusively a Vault Dweller item. If they don't use VATS then wouldn't the combat suck? I predict they will have some military alternative. MATS - Military Assisted Targeting System and BATS - Brotherhood Assisted Targeting System.

I've given up hope already. The ConstKit can't fix FO3, it's damaged beyond repair. Someone put it down.
Yes, I tend to agree with you. It would need so many changes that I think it would be easier to make completely new game. I have given hope a long, long time ago, though.

Nevertheless, CS is a good thing. Mods will do as much as humanly possible with this fallout POS sequel and it will be interesting to see with what they will come up.

Second thing, Anchorage.
Hmm. I think they are using this franchise too fast. Pure US philosophy at its finest. Too little thinking. Putting aside its rpg qualities, it should be whole new expansion pack, not dlc, imnsho.

I rarely see this kind of arrogance in devs, and I saw a lot. BN said something about “bunch of amateurs”, and I at first find it a little harsh, but now, it looks like there is some truth in it…

Meh.

I'd be curious if there's any established history in Fallout1/2 of a battle to liberate Anchorage or any part of Alaska? Ausir? :)

Also, things like this don't make sense unless there's some kind of nuclear shield (i.e. Dune). I mean one side takes Anchorage, the other side nukes their army... Nuclear conflict wouldn't play out like trench warfare.

The anchorage battle happened BEFORE the nuclear war, during the resource wars. Chinese wanted resources so they decided to attack alaska. Americans invaded Canada during the resource wars. Americans got power armor just in time to save their butts, and later on during the resource wars americans attacked mainland china. If i remember correctly, the war between usa and china started over an dispute over one of the last oil deposits in the pacific .

It's true but Fallout 3 has a pretty bad main storyline. You can improve the appearance of the game and its gameplay. You could even improve its writing a bit here and there but the main storyline is really beyond repair.

Operation: Anchorage. Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. An action-packed battle scheduled for release in January.
The Pitt. Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh. Choose your side. Scheduled for release in February.
Broken Steel. Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest. Scheduled for release in March.

Well, the further rapping of Fallout was to be expected, but what surprises me though is that all of this additional content is being made with emphasis on combat..... This sounds pretty funny, especialy because the combat present in F3 is just not capable of supporting high, or even decent quality action sequences....

It states "For XBOX and Windows Live", this does mean PC's get them too right? By just using the Windows Live option?

Also, we don't know these suck yet.. freeing anchorage could be full of quests and interaction beyond FPS.

That doesnt mean I EXPECT this :P Just playing devils advocate.

Is it just me or is "Virtual Reality" not fitting the 1950 sifi theme? Matrix anyone? Whatever happend to the Fallouttheme?

Meh.

Given the amount of updates and planning, I'd say their will be a Fallout 4 and 5. I'd like to be one of the first to announce: Fallout is dead.

:/

It's a RobCo device, the versions your character uses in FO1-3 were designed for Vault-Tec, but there were probably also military-issue versions.

Also, things like this don't make sense unless there's some kind of nuclear shield (i.e. Dune). I mean one side takes Anchorage, the other side nukes their army... Nuclear conflict wouldn't play out like trench warfare.

Alaska had too many precious resources to nuke it.

Bethesda has been pretty clear that they will be making sequels to FO3.

I hope this mod kit puts vehicles in the game. Sucks ass that it didn't have them to begin with, but oh well, it's still a good game overall.

And please, if you haven't played the game yet, please refrain from commenting. There are many, many more valid issues worth cricitizing about in the game if you've actually played it.

This is the part that intrigues me. How will it be handled? Will the current endgame be reworked (preferably), handwaved, what? Do a few certain comrades no longer care about denying my destiny?

Oh crap, I was hoping for a Dogmeat Armor mod. *sigh* At least some part of the overall crappiness of the game can be cut out\replaced.

I realise that Beth has rushed the game release and many of the locations are well underdeveloped for a "rpg", my favourite being the "Gary" vault but at the same time I am hopeful that the "Glittering gems of hatred" will at some time in the hopefully not to distant future precipitate sufficient modding to make the game more fallout-like.

I'm just beyond caring right now, they're continuing their bastardization, catering to the masses to make a buck.

Fuck. Them.

This...thing that Beth is doing reminfs me of something

Imagine

The lights are off, because you're having a nice decent sex with some girl you met on the party. Sure you were drunk and stuff, but it doesn't matter ;)

Then, on the morning, you're waking up with a fat and ugly chick looking at you in your bed.

She says:
"Hello there sweety, it was a hot night we had.."

she fades out, and then

"...but now, let's go to business...it's gonna be $200 for the whole night"

Fallout 3 is that fat chick, and this crap Beth is doing right now is that fat chick wants you to pay for sex.

This made me very, very, very sad. I didn't think Bethesda could alienate the Fallout fanbase any more than it already has. I was wrong.
Indeed, I gawked at that with disgust and puzzlement. I was always under the impression that the Chinese won in Alaska. I guess if this is after the war then it kind of makes sense other than the whole idea of the Chinese and Americans still waging war, one would think that with the limited resources that either China would have all but wiped out the Americans there, that they would have come to some sort of settlement, or that people would all but not remember what had happened. I wouldn't think that an endless conflict ala the middle east (not talking a war here, talking regional and religious hostilities) would be viable in Alaska given the post war conditions. That all said, it sounds like it's either the battle during the war or a simulation of the battle during the war, neither of which seem like they could fit into Fallout 3, the former for obvious reasons and the latter because who the hell would waste the resources and power to keep a simulator like that running for 200 years (I'm gonna bet the Enclave...).

EDIT: Thanks Ausir, I forgot that was added in the Bible.

Broken Steel sounds like their way of appeasing all of the whining kiddies who can't play after the main quest in Fallout 3, that is unless it's a stand-alone like they all sound like they are.

Maybe it's just me but all of those sound like FPS setups that are pure combat with no RPG in there at all.
