Bethesda Softworks Announces Creation Kit and DLC

While I understand the reaction to the descriptions of these DLCs (especially the Anchorage one) I'm personally going to reserve my judgment until they are out. The first reason being these are just plot hooks, and if they were done the right way they could all be fun and fleshed out experiences. The second being that, as far as DLCs go, they are far, far better already than what Beth did for Oblivion. To clarify, this is not to say that makes them better for FO universe per se or anything like that, but rather to simply say that as much as there is wrong with FO3, Beth has shown improvement. Maybe not in all the ways we'd like, but they have, and maybe the DLCs could be a sudden surprise with improved writing or something. Who knows?

In the mean time, mod kit is the best news obviously. With some serious planning things like the MQ really could get overhauled.

Operation: Anchorage. Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. An action-packed battle scheduled for release in January.

So will the premise for Operation Anchorage be that you are fighting in a Virtual Reality world? That's what "simulation" makes it sound like.
I believe @iridium has it right - it will be a simulation in a vault "holo-deck"

I don't want to join the brother hood of steel. I want to rebuild the enclave and wipe out the remnants of the BOS. oh well.

I don`t get how they want to implement Operation: Anchorage. Their whole game is build around Washington and if my geographical skills don`t fool me Alaska is very very far away from DC. Maybe i haven`t paid enough attention. The only possible thing is that you fly over with some vertibird and the map loads, basically just shooting on new character models.

Some great sounding additions to the already great Fallout sequel! :D

I bet the modders are going to make an amazing job on adding new and exciting bits to the game.

I hope this mod kit puts vehicles in the game. Sucks ass that it didn't have them to begin with, but oh well, it's still a good game overall.

And please, if you haven't played the game yet, please refrain from commenting. There are many, many more valid issues worth cricitizing about in the game if you've actually played it.

I find this post funny and disturbing.

You stated don't post if you haven't played the terrible, terrible game. And yet you know next to nothing about the Fallout universe.

I state the latter bcause you want vehicles in a game where the U.S. and China waged war over fuel (you know the kind, the stuff that cars run on!). Europe boiled over and just stated killing each other over this stuff.

So unless by vehicles you mean:

1) riding a bicycle around the wastes

Or

2) Stealing one of the "convinent" Vertibird-whatever their call the Enclave has. And then since the player has it, they don't have to get fuel for the helicopters. Cause if the player did need to find fuel, THEY WOULDN'T!

I am just deeply displeased with Betheseda, I mean what were they thinking buying the franchise. I would prefer them leaving it alone and letting it rot, then become a twisted, shell of a shell of what it use to be. Instead of the mindless, money-grubbing whore that it is.

The Anchorage add-on earns an eye-roll, sounds like too much emphasis on blowing stuff up as opposed to anything else. The other two sound somewhat promising, Broken Steel might just devolve into more dungeon crawling though.

It will be a historical VR simulation (like Tranquility Lane).

I want to join the real Brotherhood of Steel and wipe out those whiter than thou chappies calling themselves the Brotherhood of Steel.
That or just ram Paladin Cross' face into something heavy, like a Deathclaw.

Well about bloody time on the CS, I should probably get a move on and start modelling that dog armour.

My best bet is that after all the superpowers you acquired through your wandering (you know adamantium skeleton, solar power, ant strength), you will be called to join the x-men of the wastelandsand you will have acess to their Danger room. :o

It's beyond me why the Zenimax president didn't push for a Wonder Woman random encounter in the wastelands, since you can become Birdman finding the wife of the CEO should be right around Besthesda neighborhood of funny shit.

A CS? Finally.

Of the three DLC's "The Pitt" sounds the least shit, the others sound like something out of Call of Duty.

This...thing that Beth is doing reminfs me of something

Imagine

The lights are off, because you're having a nice decent sex with some girl you met on the party. Sure you were drunk and stuff, but it doesn't matter ;)

Then, on the morning, you're waking up with a fat and ugly chick looking at you in your bed.

She says:
"Hello there sweety, it was a hot night we had.."

she fades out, and then

"...but now, let's go to business...it's gonna be $200 for the whole night"

Fallout 3 is that fat chick, and this crap Beth is doing right now is that fat chick wants you to pay for sex.

+5 for Analogy  :D :D

"The Pitt" sounds really interesting. Well at least the description makes me think about joinable factions, non combat quest resolutions, and other good things like that.

the two others doesn't seem to pick my interest, but I guess that a VR combat simulation, even if it is not my play style, might still fit the universe and might be fun. Like where you could play older arcade games in the "shenmue" arcade room.

I'm glad they are releasing the CS kit. Why? Because now everyone who wants FO1/2 can mod it to their content. Bethesda can go there way and release DL content. And I my friends benefit from BOTH MUWAHHHAHAHAHAH!!!!! (hack, hack, cough) Uggg ummm yeah.

I've given up hope already. The ConstKit can't fix FO3, it's damaged beyond repair. Someone put it down.

The amount of work necessary to mod Fallout 3 into any kind of game even resembling the originals is just titanic.
My thoughts exactly. The almost undoubtedly buggy and limited in functionality editor is simply too little and way too late to be of any significance. As much as I wanted to put my surgical gloves on and start cutting, combating the CS would do nothing but benefit the talentless hacks of Bethesda and only add to my frustration. I think I'll just try to ignore the damn thing...

Fixed that for you. And as far as Bethesda's promise history goes... Well, I think the following Hines's quote speaks for itself:

"[M]y hope is that it's 100 percent a continuation of what was there before, that even with some new ideas injected into it, or some new ways of doing things, that it's a sequel to the Fallout games or to the Fallout universe. That was every bit our intention."

...maybe the DLCs could be a sudden surprise with improved writing or something. Who knows?
How much for the rose-colored glasses? I'll buy two pairs right away.
