A team of modders have been working on adding some Van Buren-inspired content to Fallout: New Vegas, and have now released the beta version of their mod. You can read their blog here, and they released a teaser trailer over a week ago.

IMPORTANT: As we're currently in BETA stage, we are thankful for any bugs you let us know about, so please post all your bugs in the comments section, rather than sending a private message. We will do our best to address every issue, and we will do so ASAP. We may not be able to reply to every commenter directly, but we will take your problems into account in our next update.

I'm currently out of town until the 9th, so I have limited computer access, and no access to the GECK, but the very talented Moburma is handling bug-fixing while I'm gone, and he's doing a great job so far. Also, dragbody is working on fine-tuning the armors; removing any bugs there.

Thanks for all your comments, votes and endorsements so far and thanks for playing! We will continue to work on this mod until all the bugs are ironed out, and we'll be adding improvements and new content also.

DESCRIPTION

The Boulder Dome was constructed before the war to be a "city of the future"; a prototype for future cities on the moon and other planets. It was also an advanced scientific research facility, and an Arc of sorts, built to withstand severe nuclear attacks. And withstand it did.

Mere hours before the bombs dropped, only the elite of society, or those with specialist skills; the top of their fields, were transported to the Dome and transported two hundred years into the future. Put into a "cold sleep", they would ride out the war and the following chaos, to start a new world in the future.

When the scientists woke up, they found themselves in a nightmare. Their bodies now riddled with a strange disease of unknown origin, dubbed the Seltsam Syndrome; literally meaning "strange disease". Forced to wear advanced Bio-suits, to help slow the spread, they struggle to survive, as time is running out.

Beyond the Dome, outside the highly toxic ruins of Boulder, two factions are moving in.

The NCR has a deadly and unmerciful mission, to stop the spread of the Seltsam Syndrome by eliminating all potential carriers. They have tracked the disease to its last known vestige, The Boulder Dome itself.

The Colorado branch of the Brotherhood of Steel have also set their sights on the Dome. Its noble leader seeks to control the Dome for the good of the region, to bring peace to the chaos. Very close to a real, working cure for the Seltsam Syndrome, he offers a peaceful solution.

Forced into the middle of things, is a simple courier, far from home. The decisions of the courier may slide the balance in many different ways, ultimately determining the fate of the scientists of The Boulder Dome.

Colorado is a place with many secrets and surprises. Three new worldspaces. New unique weapons and armor, new creatures never before seen with custom sounds, new robots. 50+ fully voiced and lip-synced characters. A long main quest with multiple pathways, and many side-quests should provide many hours of gameplay.</blockquote>

While I really applaud the efforts of these people as they have done something I have been wanting to do for a very long time; making a true quest driven mods with new lands, gear and creatures I unfortunate I still have to be very nitpicky about this.

I just don't like how they have removed the New Plague for some new disease we have never heard of before without there being a need to remove the New Plague in the first place. (we know what it is)

The changes in the lore, again we have a Brotherhood of Steel chapter that wants to bring peace to the region.

Why? The Brotherhood is not driven by altruism.

Creating a cure for a disease? While I could understand how something like that would be useful for themselves they would in general not make it for the rest of the people of the wasteland.
They are waiting out for the rest of humanity to die off so that they can rebuild the world in their own image, a highly virulent disease would pretty much be what they expect to kill others off while they wait safely inside their bunkers.

Why would they want to control the dome for the good of the region?
The BOS doesn't give a crap about other settlements unless it directly affects them, the only reason I think they would want to control the dome is because they want the Pre War tech and weaponry that is inside.

I am afraid the writers of this mod have taken to much inspiration from Fallout 3.

Again it is really great what these guys have done and I really want to follow in their footsteps, but more regarding what team work and determination can lead to than Fallout lore wise.

if you ask me, why the Brotherhood in the first place? Talking about overused factions here ... The NCR is alright they are somewhat fresh but a new faction would have been welcome. Could have been a technology worshiping faction as well with a different agenda.

Anyway. Who knows, maybe the targets of the Brotherhood will be surprise further in the game?

You wrote BUILDER dome instead of BOULDER dome BN.

I played this mod for a while, and well, I didn't like it that much. The ghoulified soldiers are dispatched from the story rather quickly, you barely do anything to compelte their quest (yes, I know is a mod and a Beta) and whoever vocies "Kate" just annoys me with her cutesy voice, I am not kidding, I had to reload 7 times because I kept throwing tomahawks at her face. It's from the same guy as Dog City Denver, another mod I didn't like that much. But whatever, it is far more than what I could do modding, and it's free.

Main reason I've kept tabs on this mod is for the rad armour, fave armour from Tactics so good to see it in Vegas.

Does seem weird them doing the BoS in shining armour again unless their true motivation is hidden or something.

Erh, BoS as shining knights of goodness and NCR as ruthless genociders? Hope there's hidden depths in there, because this diverges from their New Vegas characterization quite a bit.

Don't get me wrong, the idea is good. But we'll wait and see as to the execution.

I gave it a quick try, but I'm still not particularly deep into it. So far, the writing has been shaky to say the least, and the design feels a bit amateurish: areas are too big for their own good, quest design is simplistic (though not necessarily awful) so far, the voice acting ranges from fairly appropriate to super-amateurish, and it's fairly combat-heavy.

Don't judge the mod by its description. Play it first. Some people are criticising, saying the brotherhood wouldn't be like they are said to be in the description. These people clearly haven't played the mod. That's all I will say to avoid spoilers. I'm on an iPhone, so will leave it at that.

Play it first is always a good advice and i'll do that first thing in the weekend. As for it being combat-heavy: it was to be expected. Good writing and deep quests are surelly harder to code/implement than explosions. And it targets a larger audience too.
Anyway, congrats to those guys!

Well, the beginning of the mod is anyway, I can't speak for the full mod (though maybe someone else here can?). The very first scenario was actually more dialogue-heavy than combat heavy, but it quickly moved to what is more or less a dungeon crawl. I can't really say what the balance will be at the end.
