Bit-tech interviews Pete

in oblivon, there are like 1-2 things you have to do, everything else was the story, and it sucked ass due to mechanics and serious design flaws.
But isn't that was a modding community is for? Fixing design flaws and improving mechanics? I understand that a game should come out with no bugs, no errors, and everything works great, but if it does not, and it has a good enough following people will fix it themselves. I have Oblivion, ya the story was bland and dry, but the community made the game better, (not great but better mind you.) Unoffical patches and so forth fixed a lot of issues people were having with the game and made it a less painful/frivolous playing experience. Still not my cup of RPG tea though. As for the whole is Fallout 3 going to suck issue, I believe it will not meet true fan expectation and be another game based on graphics, guns, and OMGGOREZ!

There's nothing wrong with fans adding custom content. There is everything wrong with a developer expecting sales and recognition from a half-baked product because "Fans will just fix everything"

Indeed. Consumer-made content should never be required to fix bugs or flaws, that should be handled by the developer, they should be adding or changing content for expanded or different gameplay, not merely fixing what is already there. I already see signs that Bethesda will have the same types of problems with the information we have about the PC interface being indentical to the 360 interface, one of the most complained about problems with Oblivion.

That is a very true statement, but I have yet to see a game requiring no attention from consumers to fix bugs and other problems. If only it was as simple as you stated eh? But I do agree that Bethesda needs to play test and look for errors harder instead of hyping up their games to the point that is holds you at gun point until you buy their product.

I've seen many games that have been completely fixed by the developers, it can take a few years but it's very doable. Bethesda's problem (and they aren't the only one) is that they don't focus much on fixing their games, oblivion only has three patches for it which, in an ideal world, would fix every problem but it doesn't. What irks me is that while Bethesda doesn't really focus on fixing their products, they are fully interested in making extra content which they then sell with microtransactions, making content which should be free or available in a full expansion costly.

I meant the whole attitude and shit-flinging at Bethesda that goes around here. yes, they've made mistakes in the past. but I'm not taking it for granted that they're making the same (or other) mistakes this time.
Good for you aenemic! You go get them!!! :D

But don't come crying all the way home when they disappoint you. AGAIN! :?

Seriously, what are people with that kind of argumets now say when the game comes out and it blows? Or if it blows, if you like.

see, this is what I'm talking about. what gives you the right the patronize someone who happens to be interested in playing Fallout 3?

I'm a grown man, I don't have to come crying anywhere if I'm disappointed in a game. I uninstall and move on. and simply won't bother with whatever Bethesda does in the future.

like I said, I'm not expecting anything from them. the game might be great or it might blow huge chunks. either way life moves on.

the horrible truth is, that unless WAR sucks, or there are not any other games to occupy my time, i will end up buying FO3 before the bargin bin out of sheer boredom.

but supposedly the open beta for WAR opens in a month or less.
