Brian Fargo Unite 2012 Speech, Wasteland 2 Footage

Not sure if I'm falling for a troll here, but what he means is that you couldn't just select all of your Jagged Alliance team and tell them to go somewhere during a combat sequence. They moved freely, i.e. you took control of them one by one, as opposed to they didn't move freely, because they were a part of a formation.

Yes, what Sub-Human said.

I always hated the "you can move all your guys"-thing in Fallout Tactics. Quite often I accidentally moved more guys than the one I wanted, which fucked up my APs. So annoying. Hope Wasteland 2 won't have that or at least will get a setting for that, so I can as well just deactivate it.

Well yeah, but still this is an RPG after all, and it would be quite annoying if you couldn't move your whole team at once outside combat. Also sometimes it is a huge time saver if during combat you can move your characters as a group, especially when you intend to place two or more troops in the same tactical position like for an ambush. At the beginning of the game moving troops one by one is ok especially when you are getting acquainted with it but after a while after you got used to the game mechanics and combat this can be quite annoying

About the footage, the general overview is quite alright, but the characters look kinda quirky, and I hope that they do work on them, a lot, as now they remind me of goblins from Baldur's gate, especially the ones that dance around with the Kalashnikovs

just to correct you, your own team didn't moved around freely in JA, you had always full control over them and you had to guide them ;)

Never played wasteland so I thought the team there works like in Fallout 2, where the characters have their own AI. In JA you control all of your characters during a turn. But it seems I got that wrong.

Also Silent Storm had a very good Turn Based system to say that. I really enjoyed the combat there.

Really? I thought Fallout Tactics had maybe the perfect way of managing and moving your team, and best combat experience of all Fallout games (in RT though). The only problem was the way they moved, either in formation or not it was resulting in weird pathfinding.

I am also surprised. You can simply use shortcuts for every single guy in your team. Or divide the team into small 2,3 man groups, like: snipers, rogues, cannon fodders\storm team, etc.) and make new shortcuts for each group.

Worked for me perfectly fine, and had a lot of fun every time i was playing tactics. Never tried to play it with turn based combat though.

If I don't know who is who right now, then I will have to click more shortcuts than when simply using my mouse to click on the dude. And exactly this behavior led to many "woops, accidentally marked a few guys and send them a few tiles away"-moments for me.

Just because something works for you, doesn't mean it works for everyone. Besides, you can't create groups with new shortcuts in Tactics, as far as I am aware of it- and even if, that doesn't solve the problem. Especially because you control a team of 6 guys and not 100 like in strategy game xy.

Still there is possibility to set the falloutish turn based mode, when you can select and move one-by-one character only, based on their initiative check.

This I don't like either, because it doesn't feel good to me. JA2 controls are simply superior.

There is f7-f11 up to use. Ctrl+ one of these will create new group - kinda starcraftish.

" If I don't know who is who right now "

Here's the main problem :) Separating team even into two simple group - should make recognizing team members a lot easier. Guys that stand in the front onf7, and backup group on f8. First move is always for the f7group, and after them moves second group.

After few minutes of playing whole team seems to be like a family.

I don't understand why I should defend my way of playing. Simply add a toggle option for marking everyone / only one in combat and be done.

Besides, in turn based mode it is more effective to move your guys one by one anyway, especially if you try to plan each ones APs for future actions. Moving a single guy gives more precision than moving more at once and hoping they will stand in a good position before they are out of APs.

if combat in W2 is anything like JA2 that would be awesome. So far JA2 had some of the best TB mechanics I have yet seen in a game - not that I played them all, just saying from the ones I know, its fact that JA2 was more or less the peak in TB combat. Though I do hope they try to improve it in W2 as well. But as said, if its at least the same quality like JA2 that would be already awesome.
