CanardPC's almost-review

I think this is proof positive that Fallout 1/2 were not played by the devs, or at least played through to completion.

Or else they did, and simply didn't give a shit.

I don't think it is quite that. It is more the problem with the way they develope games. The "not spending much time on concept developement and just start making the game piecemeal" is a really poor way to design anything.

Its like making a boat. Todd decides that he wants to put a giant motor on the back, someone else puts a huge mast and sail in the middle, Emil puts a huge old lady killing cannon on the bow, someone else paints a giant red cross mercy boat symbol for the paint job, but no one bothers to put in anything to tie it all together.

/facepalm

It's proof positive that if Fallout 3 isn't a rehash of Fallout 1 and 2, then you won't like it.

Fallout 3 is a Bethesda game, not a Black Isle or Interplay game.

Though, I'm sure deep down you already knew that.

"ell Fallout 3's armor and weapons require a minimal effort to get and there's no "wow" factor anymore."

Seeing as most of the weapons have been seen in PREVIOUS Fallout titles, where would the 'Wow' factor come into play anyway?

Billionfold, seriously I am looking forward to the game, but there is nothing at all wrong with expecting a sequel to continue along the same lines as the originals. Actually it is downright perfectly logical to expect a sequel to build on the originals. Beth is taking a different approach, but expecting them to stay true to the vein of the previous games is a very good expectation.

Hell, it is more logical then expecting them to just do whatever they want with it.

I think you missed the point there, which is typical of everyone who STILL thinks Bethesda can do no wrong. It takes what was important to what made the original Fallout games feel the way they did and does away with it in order to be an "everything to everyone" game. There is no more dynamic of feeling alone in the wasteland, not having enough ammo to take down a certain enemy, or having to do an insane quest for the coveted Power Armor. It's all basically handed to you on a silver platter. But go ahead, believe what you want.

...and don't even get me started on the story that Todd and Emil seemed so proud of... :?

Bethesda didn't create the original Fallout series.

They're trying something new with it, and that fact is hard for some of you to swallow.

I'll post a review once I've played the game.

Then why the hell would they call it Fallout 3? A simple title change could have avoided this pointless argument that has been done to death. Which you didn't search for. Fuck. Something like FO:PoS2... or FO:East Coast, or something that someone much more creative than I can come up with.
Oh, they would have had to hire someone with creativity.

Different part of the United States. Different amount of supplies?

Hmm, no it makes absolutely no sense at all.

Burn Bethesda!

Pardon my ignorance, where can I read about a plot?

I'm sure if you look around for it you can find it, I won't talk about it on here out of respect for the rules of the forum, but once you read it you'll understand.

That's cute, but it's not much of an argument.

Why not call it Fallout 3? They bought the rights to it, they could create a barbie themed game and call it Fallout 3 if they waned to.

This argument makes no sense.

Fallout 3 is made by Bethesda, deal with it.

Bullseye.

French magazine CanardPC comes this week with ... CUUUUUUUUUUT
yo! had to cut the whole thing just to save space, not because it was crap :) totally the opposite indeed, this sort of review has truly impressed me and i guess it embodies all the fears of fallout fans, without being too much arrogant or "hard-core fanboys"ish or whatever they call you/us.

this won't stop me from trying the game, in the end we all can say who was right and who was wrong :)

I am dealing with it, it's you who doesn't seem to understand. If they made the barbie doll version then call it that. Fallout 3 implies continuation(considering there are 2 prequels); which just so happens to not be present. I guess none of us thickskulls would understand that.

And you'd buy that wouldn't you?

You'd agree that it's a proper sequel to the originals also?

You said it, this argument makes no sense. If it were a barbie themed game, would you still need to play it to review it ? Do you really need to play it to see how it is wrong in the context of a fallout game ?

How is criticizing the game, even pretty harshly like this preview, not dealing with the fact that it's Bethesda who is doing it ? Guess what, the exact same game with a Black Isle stamp on it would still have sucked donkey balls...

Obviously.

Fallout 3 was never a direct sequel to Fallout 2.

I bet my life that if that were the case, you guys would rather hide in a Vault (pun intended) than admit that fact.

Wow....I have been defending Fallout 3 for some time, but I don't know if I am going to be getting it now. I don't think there was a single positive thing in that article. That was no preview. That was a review. I think I'll buy Far Cry 2, then wait to see other reviews of FO3 before I make my final decision, but that was not encouraging.

Bullshit, there was a lot of criticism on Van Buren while it was in development.

They happened to interact with the gamers, and actually listen.

That's not what Bethesda does best.

But wait!! Look at that!! It's called Fallout 3 so that certainly doesn't imply that it comes third in a series of games. Also, I've heard it from Pete Hines and Todd Howard that this game is meant as a proper sequel to the other Fallout games. Of course, that makes me an NMA drone though right?
