Censors force Fallout 3 changes

The who now for the what know?! You mean Kijkwijzer?

Wikipedia says it's only legally enforcable in Finland and the UK.

Too bad they don't use the Kijkwijzer sex emblem, that one always cracks me up

Wait... Wikipedia used to say it's legally enforceable in Poland too. Someone removed it since then - maybe it was a mistake.

Edit: Checked, and yup, it was. Maybe we don't enforce it, but it's still the Dutch that rate the games for us.

Damn, you're right

Maybe your face was a mistake.

I think this is a good thing, actually. I think it would feel stupid and wrong to have game-style benefits (morphine makes you fight longer!!!111) to real, serious drugs, even with realistic consequences. That's kind of too serious of a subject for any game, IMO (although I know that many would think differently).

That said, I hope someone mods them back in so we can see how the developers intended it.

More serious than detonating a nuclear bomb in the middle of a town? Or any kind of murder, for that matter? Please.

There is only one game that I can recall in which you are allowed to use real-world drugs.

That game was NARC.

The game where Marijuana slowed down time and Cocaine increased accuracy!

Perhaps they'll decrease the violence across all versions just because of Germany.

I'd actually like that, depending on how far they went, since the gore is a bit too over the top for me. I mean, Fallout did gore over the top, but a sniper shot to the head didn't make all the limbs fall off.

This is just like Bethesda. They're the wimps of the game development world and I've lost all respect for them with this last move.

The moderators on the Fallout 3 forums are flagrantly lying to the users that morphine will be in the North American version when Pete Hines clearly states that they have removed any mention of "morphine," from the game. They locked my topic for swearing and politics (yeah, I took a jab at Australia).

"Calling the idea of an Australia-specific version of the game a “misconception,” Hines told us, “We want to make sure folks understand that the Australian version of Fallout 3 is identical to both the UK and North American versions in every way, on every platform.”

He continued, “An issue was raised concerning references to real world, proscribed drugs in the game, and we subsequently removed those references and replaced them with fictional names. To avoid confusion among people in different territories, we decided to make those substitutions in all versions of the game, in all territories.” "

No surprise here, i think they would edit just about anything to avoid bad publicity.

No but if you get a critical it would blow their arm and half their torso away.

Actually there is morphine, I think, in Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. I could be remembering wrong but I believe it was morphine. It's suppose to steady your nerves, etc.. when you've been badly wounded or whatever and your screen is wabbly/distorted/shaking. I never found it to be useful though. If you get shot up it's better to just hide and use a medkit. =P

Yays?

This seems really pointless. I mean, you're allowed to have huge chunk-splosions of body parts, screw hookers, swear as much as you like, but have some morphine? You better hope to god you don't.

No screwing hookers. Bethesda has already said that isn't in the game because your character is only 19 and the hookers in the post-apocalyptic wasteland apparently have more morals than real-life hookers of today.

So much for role-playing how you want to.

Morals and STR.

That is why America is the greatest country...in...the world... /me chokes back tears

How does that make any sense to quote the symbol and then mention America? The symbol is used in and originates from the Netherlands.
