Chris Avellone thinking about Kickstarter and Isometric RPGs

Pretty much. Plus, keep in mind the license costs for stuff like Planescape, KOTOR, Arcanum, NWN or AP game. Most likely would be something totally new- which I would be fine with too.
Who is owning the licence to Arcanum anyway right now ?

Truth be told I would rather see a new idea as I am not an Arcanum fan.

Hehe, Obsidian doing the Zybourne Clock would be fancy.

Hopefully this'll work out. I'm tired of twitch based shooter RPG's in the first person.

Dammit, I'm old, cranky and want turn based combat back.

ActiBliz owns Arcanum, I'd think.

I'm kind of surprised everyone responding on twitter/blog/facebook has been pushing for different sequels. Planescape 3, BG III, Alpha Protocol 3.

This should be an opportunity to do something completely new and awesome. MCA said it himself here: "Don't do one. Do something better and raise the bar even higher."

Not even to mention all those licenses belong to different publishers. Obsidian does own a certain title but even for it, it would need publisher help. A Kickstarted project would be the perfect opportunity to do something they own, something new.

Yes. It'd be nice to see another Planescape or Arcanum, but I think a new IP would be the best choice financially. Pretty excited about the possibility of another old-school RPG from Obsidian, though.

Why do people keep clamoring for Arcanum 2 out of MCA, even though he never worked on the original?

Yup.

Not to mention that Planescape was discontinued as a setting by WotC years ago.

Because people work on sequels to games they had nothing to do with all the time in this biz and Arcanum is one of the top most beloved offerings of the Golden Age of CRPGs.

I agree though, save the money, and do something new. I could care less about the setting, but if there was a popular game I would want to emulate the gameplay from, Arcanum would be my pick. Specificly, the NPC interactions. If I was a ugly orc, people treated me as such, and on and so forth for the other archetypes. With the advent of completly voice acted games, something like this has become way too expensive. So, the next thing to keep it cheap, is no or very little voice acting. Yeah, I must be crazy.

What was it about again?

It was the game from a few people from the Something Awful forum. It failed very hard and then people start to make fun of it in some ways. But truth told, the setting was pretty cool, imo (especially back then, when steampunk wasn't so mainstream yet). The whole "imagine four balls on the edge of a cliff" stuff and Johnny Five Aces with his pal Sholtz, etc. I'd love to see Obsidian turning this into a real old school rpg (though, not this jrpg stuff which some other fans tried(?) to make).

I'd love to do it by myself, but I just don't feel the needed creative power to do such a project.

Well, Johnny was an Easter Egg in NV which may prove that Obsidian has at least some sort of interest in the Zyborne Clock. :P

To be honest, they should do something new, possibly science fiction. I'm a bit burnt out on fantasy and would like something fresh. Maybe cyberpunk. Hell, if they where to do a licensed product, then I wouldn't mind seeing a Shadowrun RPG.

I'd too, like something completely new. But that's it.
I don't care what's the setting or anything. Just a brand new title and franchise.

well Arcanum was a rather unique setting. Hence why a Sequel of some sort would be nice.

But something completely new would be of course awesome as well. Though only if it has the same quality.

personally. A new Steam Punk game would be great. or Cyberpunk. Something that is a bit crazy. getting sick of Dragons, Elves and all that stuff done over and over again. Not to mention because it seems they are always shown in the same way - See Skyrim.

Shadowrun would be a good Cyberpunk RPG. It would be nice to see something new though.

Now I finally understand the random encounter in FNV. Thanks guys.

I really wouldn't want to see cyberpunk so much. For my personal taste, this genre is 90% uninteresting by now. Even steampunk is a bit meh, as it becomes more and more bland and generic due to the big mainstream, uhm, "fellowship" without any new ideas (seems to me as if everyone is going copycat over each other).

I just want a real Shadowrun RPG. When they turned it into a shooter I almost cried.

Hm, turn-based Blade Runner type cRPG sounds interesting. Very.
Yes the last well made Cyberpunk game I played was on the SNES called Shadowrunner. A new game in that setting is really long overdue.

Hey! wtf :( Lexx was supposed to be a cool guy once! What have you done to him ?

No seriously. Yeah not everyone likes everything. But I think a well done Cyberpunk game would have huge potential. Is Deus Ex classified as Cyberpunk by the way ? Just curious.
