combat armor

WarMonger

Still Mildly Glowing
I was wondering if anyone has some high-res pics, fanpics, etc... of someone wearing combat armor....

the idea is im going to use what i can find to make a replica/costume

cant think of any specificaly, wait, when you say combat armor, you mean Power Armor IE the armor on the front of the Fallout box, or what the BOS wear, OR the armor they give you as an initiate in FO1 at the BOS, also same armor worn buy Hub guards...

alright... a little update

after paying a visit to www.cosplay.com i figure the best way to make the actual torso armor would be starting with paper mache, then covering that with either fiberglass or bondo (i think im leaning towards fiberglass)

for the helmet i could either use a current military type helmet such as THIS or make one from scratch using the same method as the armor.

for the underclothes, i was thinking a simple grey long sleve teeshirt and some dark brown tights or perhaps fatuiges

im not quite sure what im going to do with the backpack, shin, and lower arm guards yet

Be sure to post pics and info here as you progress . . no doubt there is interest here in such a project, me included.

you gotta use kevlar, just go to a local canoe-shop you can get plates of about 30x30 cm...also, the backpack is of leather...I've been wanting to do thiss for a long time, but I can't spend my money on it

kevlar? hah! im not made of money, and this is a costume... not the real thing
Im just doing the planning at this point... being that im basicly unemployed at the moment

whats it for?... you guys are going to laugh at me for this... an anime convention... yep... cosplay... but dont get me wrong... this is my first on both accounts

as for the backpack, im not very good at forming leather (believe me... i tried) so i think ill go with a lighter weight cloth and use some thin cardboard inserts for support

due to the lack of detailed pics of the armor, im probably going to have to get creative

ive also began looking into the possability of making a replica bozar or gauss rifle

I do have a Q about the armor... are those sunglasses or shade?

EDIT: i just realized another question... does anyone have a printable stencil of the brotherhood logo?

If your going to make paper mache then what will be the base for the breast plate part? A wire mesh might work and you could remove it after the whole thing dried...but what about the color? Is it just going to be painted green? And you must also remember how hot a paper mache suite of armor would be walking around in. Oh and you cant forget the boots!!! And about your weapon you could always get some POS walmart paintball gun for $10 and modify it with a paper towel roll and some tinfoil.

p.s- am i a post whore tonight or what?

Peppermachae could work, but you'd have to do it right, which would take time, and then not so much polish but smooth the surface of it.

And to help out

the helmet looks like a regular motersycle helmet, and it would probably be easyer to convert football body armor for the breatplate, but i guess papermache would work pretty well, what type of weapon were you thinking of using?

well, like i said... posterboard...covered in paper-mache... covered in fiberglass for the base form, then i can sand it, and use more fiberglass, bondo, or both for the majority of the raised surfaces and details. it may take a while, but i want it to look good while saving cash.

and psycho, thanks for the pics, but i already had them

as for the shade of the greenfor the armor, im planning on experiment with layering flat forest green and the green camo rust-oleum paint

tomorrow i have some free time so im going to hit up the airsoft dealer at the local flea market and see what they have in stock...

im thinking a Colt 1911 and a MP5 or maybe a M1A1 Thompson

Just an idea, a MP5 wouldnt really fit the FO setting, though WW1 era devolped weaponry such as those 2 .45 weapons would.

I have so much to say here...

First of all I cant express my thanks to you enough for this idea. I think anyone brave enough to cosplay kicks ass, and the armor would make great clothing to just keep the "normals" away when your walking to your friends house each weekend.

Even more so due to this anime convention. Even since I started enjoying anime I have wanted to go to a con and even cosplay...though I would feel it would betray my sci-fi/PC rpg roots which are American and not Japanese. It seems like a lot of anime fans upon discovering anime completely give up on sci-fi and fantasy...as well as choosing to play console rpgs (which are Japanese) over PC rpgs. (which are American) This is why I would think Cosplaying as an American character would really blow the anime fans away...

One day I will go in a blue and yellow jumpsuit with the number thirteen on the back...probably at my first convention too!

Much praise for a fellow fan,

oddly enough... i thought of that the day before i decided on the combat armor... but im not exactly in the type of shape that would look good in a form-fitting jumpsuit

You should go to your local party city and get some of that sexy form fitting batman body armor and paint it green....oh yea baby robins got a new pair of shoes.

Ok... hit up the flea market... the selection wasnt that great at the airsoft shop... but i did find a Desert Eagle... a tactical thigh holster... and a rubber HtH practice knife

EDIT: after taking apart the slide to retreve a ball that somehow got loose in there... i figured out how to make it full auto

EDIT again: i forgot to mention that i had some chicken wire donated to me for this project... i figure its more formable than the posterboard that i was originally planning on using... im getting a friend to help me form it tomorrow, so i should have some pics. speaking of which... anyone got a host i can piggyback on?
