combat armor

Hmmm, depending on how large they are I should be able to host a few pics.

Or you could ask Enderwiggen over at the Fanout site to host them, since this is FO related and sweet Im pretty sure he'd agree.

Or you could ask some DAC admins, or prehaps Odin or a NMA admin.

they are going to be decient quality .jpeg's about 22Kb apiece but there shouldnt be that many to host just the major steps along the way... ill go ahead and PM Odin and this Enderwiggen fellow

... I started working on the torso piece today... got the chicken wire cut and formed... and while i got pics... i forgot to bring my camera home from my friends house -_-

... so anyway, they should be up sometime tomorrow

Hey starting is always the hardest part...looks like your on your way to becoming a very great member with such dedication.

I got the pics uploaded... so i guess I'll go ahead and start a little guide.

first, a pic of the chicken wire.

This is what i started with for each side of the armor. I was originally opting for posterboard, but a big ol' roll of this was donated to me by my friend's neighbor. Being a bit more formable than posterboard... so i just went with it. the dollar bill is there for size reference.

next is the formed chicken wire.

These were made by having a friend cut out a neck hole and arm holes while i held the wire... i then spent about 20 minutes apiece trying to form it to my body... like i said... trying...

next and as far as i have gotten... the paper mache'.

paper mache' is really... REALLY messy. after some experimenting (and finding out you need to cover both sides of the wire in paper for it to stick...) this is what i got. I am thinking its a little too long for combat armor.... but hey... it can still be altered... so whatever..

so its on the way to atleast vaguely resembling CA...

well... that might be awhile...seing that i have no real cash to throw at it until next month... so ill just keep plugging away at it as i have time...

speaking of which... I am now taking donations to help me with this... just send whatever you can afford... or want to... or none at all... or whatever... to warmonger83@hotmail.com via paypal

Paper mache is expensive? Sheesh then my kindergarden teacher must have been a fuckin millionaire...

paper mache' isnt the costly thing... spraypaint, cloth for the backpack, etc. that cost are going to cost some money. its not like im asking for alot... i mean if you have like .50 or a dollar or 2 just sitting in a paypal account feel free to send it my way.

edit: oh yeah... i just got off the phone with a friend who was in the military and he said he has a helmet i can have... one of the current military issue ones... bulletproof and all :D

you know... i didnt even look into it... but it just hit me while i was just staring at the inventory pic of the armor... i should have used a set of football shoulder pads as a base.... that would make things so much easier on me. If it wasnt for my lack of cash, id scratch the chickenwire and paper mache thing now sitting in my friend's basement... i guess the pads will have to be used in combat armor 2.0... when i have some money i can spend..

i was thinking something like one of these...

the helmet looks like a regular motersycle helmet, and it would probably be easyer to convert football body armor for the breatplate, but i guess papermache would work pretty well, what type of weapon were you thinking of using?

Way to go Warmonger! Im sure you'r having even more fun making it than I am looking at it...

Creation is the best!

eh... not really... not since I found out about the shoulder pads thing... The paper mache thing isstarting to piss me off. It smells funny, is way too messy, and is not giving me the results i need.

My brother has been wanting to make some armor for this convention thing... so I might give what I have to him and just wait till I have enough $ for the shoulder pads... probably next month. Sooner if I find a job.
I guess I could play around with this paperclay stuff I found... Im thinking I could make the chestplates out of it.

so the plan isnt scrapped... just going back to the drawing board for the moment...

Yeah, football shoulder pads would proably be best for the breastplate.

I recomend getting used ones from a used sports supply store. It doesnt matter how crappy they look, as you'll proably need to cover them compleatly in papper macahe and paint that to get the propper look.

Just a thought. Keep the chicken wire.

Cover the exterior of the pads in chicken wire coverd in papper machae, that way, you get the smooth look, and dont have to shape the chicken wire that much.
