Contraptions Workshop

"You know what a Fallout game really needs? Conveyor belts and sorting machines!"
Said no Fallout fan or Bethesdrone (for that matter) ever."
Well they already tried to make Borderlands and the Sims and Minecraft all into one game, might as well throw in Factorio for good measure. I just wish they could make an actual Fallout game instead.

BorderSimsOutCraftorio 4.

I know that achievements are useless and usually just handed to the player but have ya'll seen the ones for this DLC?

Mass Production: Manufacture 100 items with your production equipment.
Show Off: Display one weapon, one suit of armor, and one set of power armor in your settlement.
Time Out: Put one of your settlers in the pillory.

Wow, very achievement, much accomplishment, dreck meme.

So instead of atleast trying to make a good DLC, they make production equipment(for no purpose I assume), allowing you to put an item on display(because yay in a wasteland with barely any life to it you just want to stick an item to display to all the shitting teddy bears and sitting skeletons littering the wasteland), and then putting settlers inside the time out chair because...reasons? I though that you were supposed to kill everything?

I wonder if that production equipment can make ammo, that would be useful.
Oh wait, I forgot, all the special ammo-abilities are now thanks to magic receivers. Nevermind.

Yea the enchanted/magical weapons in Fallout 4 do not belong anywhere near a serious Fallout game. Where Obsidian or another developer would have the ammunition make sense and be believable within the Fallout universe, Bethesda just wrote some lazy code for procedural generation of ammunition/weapons with 20 adjective names so you get the Flamer of Freezing and Nailboards with magic effects like this is some kind of fantasy game.

From what I saw in the trailer, the entire DLC seems to be a celebration of the potential applications of bowling balls.

Maybe Bethesda has a sponsorship deal going on.

It's out, and it's mostly boring fluff. Firework displays, racks for weapons and armor, way too many electric posters, and building tile sets that look like garbage. I was kind of excited to get to build an elevator [They're not gunner elevators; instead they appear to be a new asset], they come in two, three and four story versions. So I built one of the four story ones, ride up to the top floor, ready to build from the top to bottom, only I'm outside the build range. So I go down a floor, and I'm still outside the build range. Finally, I go to the second floor, and it's AOK. What's the point of range limits in some areas, but not others? Stupid. So it looks like we can mass produce armor, ammo, guns, and food, never-you-mind these things are painfully easy to come by from traders or just looting dead enemies and locations. I grew bored of it all in a few minutes.

This is why I have trust issues about scores...

Am I the only one here who wants to get Contraptions?

Also, about the Vault-Tec workshop...Y'see, the Nexus mod that allows you to build vaults is a bit clunky and unpolished, from what I've seen, and in the trailer, it's a little less clunky and a bit more polished.

Part of me really thinks Fallout 4 should of been a Sims based spin off.
It basically IS a sims-based spinoff.

Yes.

No.

I really wish Obsidian could make another Fallout but it looks like we'll be stuck with this crap for the foreseeable future. :rip:

Yeah, New Vegas is my favourite Fallout, easily in my top 5 games ever. I'd love another one like it, even if it looked as dated as NV

I can see the review now:

"Contraptions Workshop: A Near Perfect Wasteland Workshop DLC!"
"It is better than all of the New Vegas DLC combined!"
And other assorted lunacy.

I'm curious how the Settlement building limit plays into this. Because it's not very big. I can easily reach the building limit without any of this DLC. So I wonder how console users even use this while also building a regular settlement?

Well shouldn't there be mods on console that take away the building limit? After all consoles have mods now.
Also, here's babby's first steam review of logical fallacies:
"Everyone is saying this DLC is useless because it could've been made by modders.
Key word.
COULD."
They will literally defend this

Well yea. There's even people here defending it. $15 for Workshop DLC, plus $10 for Automatron which was Workshop DLC plus a dumbed down version of "Superhuman Gambit" quest from Fallout 3. And people say thats good value for a Fallout game.

Half of the Season Pass is Workshop DLC. Because when Fallout fans want to play Fallout, what they want is to craft a bunch of crap out of other crap and do MMO quests for 1000 hours. LOL.

I don't think mods will remove the building limit for consoles. The building limit exists because of console hardware limitations as far as I know.

I was hoping for a Mostly Negative rating.

Right now its got 199 postives, 247 negative reviews on Steam. That's technically "mostly negative." I predict it will officially reach "Mostly Negative" soon enough.

My favorite reviews of Contraptions Workshop:

"I miss Obsidian."
"What everyone wanted from a Fallout game - Minecraft mechanics."
"Horse Armor 2.0"
"I only got this because I was stupid and bought the Season Pass."

Fallout 4: Made by people who hate Fallout RPGs, for people who hate Fallout RPGs.
