Contraptions Workshop

Okay, I watched the trailer and it looks absolutely dreadful. Conveyor belts, elevators, more ripping off modders.

I am honestly surprised they are still pushing this crap, more than that it is main selling point of this pointless DLC.

Thank God, I unistalled this game, so I don't have to bother myself with it.

Alright, so there are the trailers for these DLCs now. It's basically the nexus mods of the months turned into paid content : bridges, elevators, Elianora's racks and even the loverslab's "Zaz kit", now used to punish your friends for some reason. And make teddy bears rain, because sure, that's what I thought was missing, when I played an RPG written by the guy who wrote Planescape freaking Torment and learned that there was going to be a new gen sequel.

The second DLC is Vault Tek, which lets you build vaults. It also already exists on the nexus for free.

Oh, and you can "experiment on dwellers" (Like... make them do sport ?) like Vault Tek, after you lost your entire family in the vault because of them. All you need is a bit of rubber, wood and steel, and here you go : you can do better than Vault Tek.
On the other hand, people who actually had two centuries to learn how to rebuild made a shanty town in the middle of a stadium.

On a last note, I'm baffled at how amateurish the trailers look. They basically typed "tm", "tcl" in the console and recorded it. Not even bothering to create a place to make it look nice, and not even bothering to make clean camera shots. I wouldn't be surprised if the music comes from a creative commons soundtrack channel.

Man, Bethesda decreased their "Shits to give"-budget once more.
I wonder if they'll ever piss off their most hardcore apologists, or if it's just like Free Jazz where no amount of bullshit will ever get called out.

No folding bridges? But... Modders did it... I thought the entire point with these dlcs was to rip off mods.

This is the most pathetic thing i've ever seen someone try and sell
Well atleast a Youtube comment was right..for once.

but some other company would make it cost 15$, while this will cost a few bucks and its optional, so dont say you are forced to buy everything!

This dumbfuck responded to the above comment with..this excuse.
"B-b-but atleast you didn't have to pay extra money for this DLC like other companies! It's not even necessary since you're not forced to by everything!"

It's idiots like this that fork over money for DLCs with assets that should've already been in the game or gun skins that can easily be exploited with these business practices. Funny since these assets should've already been in the game from the get go.

I've gone over the trailer for this DLC again and honestly, does anyone else here know what purpose there are for the "track kits" and "sorting machines"?

I mean, at least with the track kit I get it that you build something "complex" (*snort*) and then watch a ball roll from point A to point B.
Fine.

But...
What is the point of the sorting machines?
I mean, the conveyor belt doesn't lead to a container or anything so whatever you put into the sorting machine is eventually just gonna get dumped on the ground. So, what's the point? Sorting food? Or... You could just, I dunno, WALK to a container of your choice and put your food into it instead of letting it move slowly along a belt only to get dumped on the ground.

So seriously, what's the point of it? Same with the exit machine that literally just spews it out on the ground.

Now the conveyor belt I can see a point to. Putting some weapons or trophies or whatever on a belt that goes around your house so that you can display your loot makes sense for players that like that sort of thing.

But the sorting machine just seems completley and utterly pointless.

Does anyone here actually have an idea for what purpose that thing serves?

I really have no idea. I see three possible scenarios, each one of them being fundamentally useless :
-Put three teddy bears and a bottle of wine on the conveyor belt, leading to a scrap machine, acting as a container. In the container, you will find the scrap elements from the teddy bear and the bottle of wine.
-Put three teddy bears and a bottle of wine on the conveyor belt. They go through a thingy, and tada, on the other side, the conveyor belt now drags around a fat man, somehow made out of teddy bears and bottle of wines.
-Put things in the container. Watch things move on the conveyor belt.

For me, this is the worst thing ever released for Fallout.
I mean, Fallout 3 and 4, plus the DLCs, had all the problems we know but at least, the studio presented them with professionalism. They wanted their audience to think "Oh, they care, and this looks nice". There was a trailer, something new and original (even if it was just a costume or a set), some kind of story that was teased. A music from the game, or even a music made for the trailer. Maybe even a 3D intro/outro. There were "clean" videos, if you get my meaning. There was some kind of effort to make it look like something.
Here, it looks like they asked a random person to make it five minutes before the show. Have you seen the camera moves ? It slips twice. Even an random youtuber cuts such bad camera moves, when he/she makes a Machinima video.
The set ? It's Sanctuary and a basic room, made of four walls and a floor. It took a minute to make.
The music ? Sounds like a creative commons, elevator music... They can't possibly have "composed" that, they took it somewhere where it was free.
The gizmos ? The plank of wood which releases the ball when activated? It's a square tile with a wood texture that moves down when activated. It's... what students learn to do in a week during their first classes of 3D modelling.
The intro ? The simple lower third, with a static picture of a girl ? Anyone with basic knowledge of Adobe After Effects can do better.

If this was for an independent game, from a small team of devs, and during a classic event, I'd understand. But here... Oh well. I mean, remember the trailer for the title we must not speak of ? The game was horseshit, but hell, the devs actually made a decent trailer for it.

Now, I don't want to blame the poor guy/girl who actually made the video, because I think he/she was already pushed to produce a thing at the very day of the event, and he/she did the best he/she could in that time. And he/she probably knew that it would come out as something awkward, unworthy of being broadcasted to the entire gaming audience. If he/she reads this : I'm sorry they asked you to do this. And I'm not ranting against you, I'm ranting against the ones who made you do it, and presented it with pride, showing everyone all that they don't care anymore.

Sometimes I wonder if Bethesda are intentionally pissing all over this franchise, just because. Maybe they were so utterly butthurt about the negativity from old fans, that all they want to do now is to revel in the degeneration of the franchise while making mad money on it. I'd have an easier time accepting that explanation than honestly believing this is the best they can make out of all that rich lore and unexplored territory.

How are they really gonna be able to pull this kind of trailer for Contraptions?

Cause what we saw at E3? That was more like previews. I doubt that's the 'actual' trailers. Even so the preview footage was pathetically amateurish.

After going back to New Vegas, I have to say the answer is most definitely YES they are doing exactly that. They are doubling down on this direction with this paid mod DLC.

It's official: Fallout is now a crafting game franchise with Borderlands-like elements. That is apparently the direction this franchise is going now. Beth really hates RPGs.

Dear Obsidian: Please save Fallout.

Rejoice, Van Buren will make a last stand and save Fallout's name, if Obsidian doesn't. There is still hope, but it won't come from Bethesda, that's for sure. I'm glad it's a modding team who will have the final word. It would have been a shame if Fallout 4 was released after VB, and shadowed it.
Also, Wasteland 3 has been teased, and we all know what it's really about, just under another name. Brian Fargo knows what he's doing, and we can trust him.

Well, then there also is the hopefully eventual official Van Buren trademark that InXile aquired. Wasteland is good and all but it is no replacement for Fallout. Maybe Van Buren (InXile) will be a proper spiritual successor to Fallout. Then again, Fallout was a spiritual successor to Wasteland(1) and apart from the perhaps the setting the two don't really have that much in common so if Van Buren is intended to be a spiritual successor to Fallout 1/2 then I'm curious how much of an imitation it'll be.

Either way, I look forward to the fan-made Van Buren a lot.

I guess we're just the outcast whiners again cause the response is positive towards it.

"You know what a Fallout game really needs? Conveyor belts and sorting machines!"
Said no Fallout fan or Bethesdrone (for that matter) ever."
