Deus Ex on hiatus

Console games are dumbed down in nearly every way to be honest.

Very rare to see a non-dumb console game, I think Bioshock 1-2 were quite impressive with ammo types, plasmids, etc, good AI.

For games which are on PC and Console, you can REALLY see the difference when you play the PC port, and compare it to a PC exclusive.

Lower enemy counts.

Shittier combat because all they did was remove the aim-assist consoles have.

Shittier performance.

Shittier graphics.

Etc.

I personally didn't think Bioshock was that good, but that's another rant for another day. I understand what you're saying though.

Mmmmmm, Bioshock is certainly not a 'masterpiece', itself being a console-ized systemshock.

But for a PS3/360 FPS/thingy/gaem, its pretty darned good.

My issues with it stem from the writing and laughably unbalanced gameplay for the type of game it was trying to be. It's also partially on me because I bought into the hype because everyone I knew at the time was singing its praises. Everyone was praising its themes and it's usage of Randian Objectivism, but it only touches on these things in the most superficial ways. Out of the three games that were released, I enjoyed Bioshock 2 the most. With Bioshock Infinite, Ken Levine had crawled so far up his own ass, he couldn't see passed all the shit.

I actually admit I liked 2 more than 1. XD

I believe the unbalanced gameplay stems back to System shock, which, like most old games, were quite unbalanced.

I like unbalanced shit.

Eh, Randianism is based on the concept of her system working entirely because she wrote books where it did work that way so the entirety of Rapture working the same way is the best possible critique versus getting in the nitty gritty.

But personally, I like mindless shooters.

I also regret we never returned to Sarah Bolger's Eleanor.

System Shock wasn't so unbalanced they had to patch in a harder difficulty after the fact. It also didn't kill the immersion the way it did in Bioshock. I wanted something smarter and that's on me. As far as spiritual successors to System Shock go, I'd rather play Alien Isolation.

But personally, I like mindless shooters.

We're aware. ;)

hey mindless shooters can be good.
some of my personal favorites include:
  • half-life (love the platforming elements)
  • doom 1&2
  • timeshift
  • wolfenstien
i only ever buy shooters on sale tho'.

also pity about deus ex being on hiatus. I just got into this series. still playing through the first one. though as I understand it the series didn't maintain quality all that well so perhaps its for the best.

System Shock gave birth to Bioshock and Dead Space among many many others.

It is a holy thing and I look forward to both its remake and System Shock 3.

Bioshock and Dead Space
both of which had two solid, even great, games. and third was terrible in each case. maybe system shock 3 shouldn't happen considering what happens to franchises that were inspired by it. third entries are cursed it seems.

Bioshock: Infinite I enjoyed for 90% of the game and it only fell apart under the weight of its own pretensiousness in the finale.

Dead Space 3 is...okay, that was just shit. It was kind of amazing how that became the Alien 4 of the franchise versus the Alien 3--which would have been bad enough as is.

my problem with dead space 3 is its not scary and its also kind of tame. as a result it fails both as a horror game and as an action game whereas the first two excelled so well at being both at the same time. same problem you had, I assume?

My problem with Deus Ex 3 is it's shifted from survival horror to a bro-action movie about Isaac and his co-op partner while Isaac's former (female) partner is now suddenly only concerned about their relationship. It even has a bullshit ending where they send the womanfolk off before their heroic and completely unnecessary sacrifice which doesn't take. The game failed as a horror game and action game like you say but the character evisceration certainly didn't help.

Nor did the fact the game is one of the defining "pay to win" games in terms of microtransactions.

Dead Space 2 was action and gore but it was great like Aliens just like Dead Space was great like Alien.

oh the microtransactions, I forgot about them. though you didn't need to buy them to win. honestly I didn't see any of that as "character evisceration" that didn't bother me at all, at the time at least, tbh I barely remember DS3. it should also be noted that compared to the bosses of the last two games DS3's boss is shitty.

Dead Space was great like Alien.
I don't remember there being a lot of shooting in alien. in fact that was a big plot point in alien 1. they couldn't kill it on the ship because the acid would eat through the hull. "you don't dare kill it".

incidentally have you played alien isolation?

Oh yes, I agree with everything there. I just did not like that game at all.

5/10 was my review

5/10 is a bit harsh. at least a 6.5/10 imo. at least. which is a lot lower than it seems considering I'd give 1&2 10/10 and 9/10 respectively.

Resident evil 4 is better than deadspace mostly because its monsters are a bit less try hardy and had a sense of irony/humor to it.
