Dormant/Dead franchise and what killed them -- discussion

Demon's Souls. I get that Dark Souls is a "spiritual successor" but it just doesn't have that feel that Demon's Souls has. Demon's Souls is genuinely hopeful. There was an honest chance that Man could win.

Dark Souls is just... "Hey, wanna postpone the heat death of the universe? Also, 420 praise it." and there's nothing wrong with that. But Demon's Souls to me is a better premise. Your actions actually can have a chance to do something rather than merely postponing the inevitable victory of Darkness

Can't comment on the quality of Demon's Souls to Dark Souls but I will question if it was ever a franchise if it never had sequel. Man can also win in Dark Souls, just walk away.

There has been too much violence, too much pain. None here are without sin. But I have an honorable compromise. Just walk away. Give me the bonfire, the humanities, the souls, and the whole Kiln of the First Flame and I'll spare your lives. Just walk away, I will give you safe passage in Lordran. Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror.

I will say, it's more implied that Darkness will always come but not that the flame could ever come back. That's something expanded on in DS2 and 3 really. Unless you can provide something from DS1 that truly says your choice didn't matter. There is implication that you take Gwyn's place at the Kiln and the First Flame will burn longer but I don't remember even an implication that if you walk away there could be a chance for other Undeads to rekindle the Flame. Sure, if you rekindle it, then it lives on and some other Undead will need to take your place when the Flame starts to fade again. But if you walk away and the flame dies out, as far as DS1 is concerned that very well could be it, it's over. That was something, that as far as I remember, is made in the sequels to explain either ending of the player character in DS1. If you wanna talk more of this I'd say let's go to the Dark Souls thread

Ain't no reason to get excited

It's in development, it's coming back, it's nor dormant. Or would you argue otherwise? Sure it may be shit, or not successful, but the dormancy has ended. That's the key here.

Feb 27th seems to be a key date.
