Dormant/Dead franchise and what killed them -- discussion

This is literally the best news I've had all year. Blessings upon thy house, a boon upon thy loins, etc.

Hey, take it with a grain of salt. I remember some articles about it being in works a while back, and From has stated that they're working on several titles at the same time. On of which is Elden Ring, so that leaves space for AC.

They were working on elden ring and Sekiro at the same time so that might be the multiple titles thing. Unless they had three projects going at once which seems unlikely.

That's one of those games that could potentially improve a lot with a remake, if done right.

Whoa just saw this. Does this mean that the graphics aren't really even improved, just higher rez or something?
Yeah, seems like it's just using an updated engine with widescreen support and slightly better textures, and some gameplay improvements.
But I sure hope that if this remaster gets some recognition they make a sequel or remake or really anything from the IP. It just makes me slightly happy that it's not completely dead.

It's a shame Descent: Underground is apparently in publisher hell.
Full agreement on Tribes and Unreal/UT, too. Tribes: Ascend was pretty good as far as I could tell, but it never ran on my computer.
The Metaltech universe is quite fascinating in how they went from like 25th century in Earthsiege over 29th in Starsiege to 40th in the Tribes games.
It's a shame Unreal has been left to rot. Unreal 2 was kinda not good, and while I enjoy UT as much as the next guy, that series has reached its peak with UT2k4, and I just miss the vibrant strangeness of the original Unreal.

I'm holding out hope that if Diabotical can capture the imagination of the Fortnite playerbase - that and the popularity of Doom2016 and Eternal might get the arena FPS ball rolling again. I just CAN'T imagine a world where Unreal stays dead. I won't do it! :D

I really wish that the original Unreal had a genuine sequel as I found Unreal 2 very disappointing.
Years ago I heard a second expansion pack had been planned for the PC version that would have been an original Unreal game on the original PSX.
Sadly that project never got finished which I found a shame as it would have further expanded the world and even add some Lovecraftian elements to Unreal.

There are some fan made expansions but I wish they would expand the universe than return to Na Pali yet again.

Sadly Unreal will never have a new official Single Player game.

Guess what, it's not dead. 3D Realms continues cashing in on that sweet, sweet nostalgia wave, and they decided to "reload" Kingpin.

That makes me quite happy. Maybe there'll even be a sequel or reboot or whatever if this generates enough interest.

Basic graphical update, some re-balancing and a new quest system, allegedly some other improvements. We'll see.
Either way. Kingpin isn't dead yet.
Now bring back Heretic and Hexen.

Played it to death and loved every minute back in the day...this is actually a pretty difficult game when played at higher difficulty, tried the hardest difficulty once and couldn't complete the first area. Looking forward to get this new addition.

Michael Ironsides had cancer so that's why he opted out of SPLINTER CELL: BLACKLIST. He asked Ubisoft to not mention he was DYING and that it was mocap issues. He's actually recovered mostly and says he'd be happy to return to the role given his schedule.

NO ONE LIVES FOREVER is dead because somehow the license ended up in the hands of Warner Brothers who have said they have no interest in making a game OR selling the rights.

Bloodrayne seems dead and that sucks ass because I love those games. I assume it's because of Uwe Boll. Albeit, those are the only watchable movies of his because of the....well, I don't want to say because of the incredibly hot women on screen but that's the only reason.

Surprised no one mentioned Thief getting fucked.

But I too heard a rumor of Armored Core happening. Don't remember where.

Yeah, it was pretty unforgiving. Especially if you're a noob who doesn't know how to holster a weapon or not shoot everyone on sight.

Postal is Uwe Boll's best movie and you know it. Incidentally another dead franchise that is getting magically revived.

Silent Hill died with origins. Hasn't been a truly great silent Hill since 2003. Best we coulda hoped for from PT was a one off good game ala new Vegas.

Gungrave needed a revival but it's getting one, I only wish the revival didn't look all live action and darb, Gungrave was more like a 90's anime turned into a game in terms of looks.

Shame Max Payne 3 killed the franchise.

Honestly, it was fine with just the first two.

Hate that Alan Wake 3 was killed.

I liked Gunman: Chronicles. Started as a HL-mod, turned standalone, and did some fun things with story, setting, and gameplay. Can't go wrong with space western. ded
Interstate 76. There was a sequel, and lots of vehicular combat games, but nothing ever came close to Interstate 76 and its brilliant soundtrack and atmosphere.
Hey Stampede, how about a poem?
"ded"
