E3

I think if they manage to sort out the choppy animations and bring the graphics to at least DMC4 level, they have a shot at making a very good game, as the gameplay looks right in the classic DMC vein (i.e. great).
I can't really say, the gameplay shown is minimal and chopped up to the point where I can't really tell how fluid it is. It looks like it could be promising as their appears to be at least some juggling.

I just hope the music used in the trailer isn't an indication of the future game soundtrack quality. That sounded horrid.
It never crossed my mind that the background music could be indicative of what we'll hear in the game, that would be extremely painful...

*shrugs* Because it's another thing lost together with the original characterization and tone, I guess. At least that's the reason for me.
Pretty much, and I think it helps to show that they have lost those things.

As for the haircut, it looks identical to me.

Going back to the Wii U, what a fucking retarded name, I really hope that their promise that you won't generally need more than one of the new controllers is true. Here's better that those things are going to be at least $200 a piece. I'll give them that it's cool to be able to use it as a handheld around the TV and I thought that the demo with the Wii Zapper was kind of cool. Having your own screens for local play could be kind of cool but the ergonomics of the "controller" look to be a bloody nightmare. That all said, now that the Wii Motion Plus is now standard, maybe it'll start to be used in interesting ways with the new system. I'm doubtful but one can hope.

I like the aesthetics of the Zelda: Skyward Sword, they seem to have finally found the right balance of style and gone back to the aesthetics of Link to the Past. Here's hoping it's actually a good game.

Just to add some James Rolfe to the mix. FIRE FIRE FIRE. What a shit load of fuck....fuck fuck fuck FUCK FUCK FUCKFIRE FUCKFIRE FUCKFIRE!

Woah, I just shot a duck by saying fuck.

The new Dante looks like kind of a tool... well, more so than the old one anyway.

The bangs are really the only difference that I can see and that may simply be due to this being an early build of the game. I'm actually quite surprised that it looked as rough as it did given that they had the cinematic trailer at the last E3.

By the way, I just found an old quote that seems to confirm that this will be the new music in the game.

The essence of Devil May Cry is all about 'cool.'

What Devil May Cry did when it launched was it brought everything that was great about action cinema like the fashion, music -- it was like a cultural melting pot -- and I feel like now, for Devil May Cry to have that same impact, it needs to draw on new things. New music, new ways of cinematography, new fashion.

By the way, Ninja Theory's Creative Director Tameem Antoniades seems to have been trying to put himself in the game a bit so maybe the new hair matches his new hair.[spoiler:61947def65]

I found an analysis of the trailer that I found quite good and would suggest as a read: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=28413821&postcount=473

I'm by no means counting it out of being good yet, it doesn't even have a release date yet so they have plenty of time to polish it. I'm just saying that they have yet to really impress me.

I'm pretty sure DMC games were heavy on the story, it's just the stories were so insanely stupid no one gave a rats arse about them when there was air juggling to be done.

Yeah, or whatever. That's what I meant. It's a game build solely on the Rule of Cool, and I can't say I care for consistency of anything.

I can't really say, the gameplay shown is minimal and chopped up to the point where I can't really tell how fluid it is. It looks like it could be promising as their appears to be at least some juggling.

It's too chopped up to tell how well it will play, but it showcases all the basic elements that any DMC player will pick up. It looks from the trailer like there is at least as much juggling as DMC4 if not more; the chain-weapon seems to function basically like Nero's arm; all the classic DMC weapons are also present - we have pistols, basic sword, nunchuk-like weapon, scythe, big slow weapons, a katana; something like demon form is still there. Even some of the "combos" shown in the trailer mimic the earlier installations of the game. Now, if they leave the styles mostly intact, the gameplay will be pretty much the same. The animations look a lot less fluid and I hope they fix it, but we won't know how fluid the game is until it's out and playable. What I see now looks promising and I don't see a reason to bash it just because of silly stylistic things that are basically of no consequence.

It never crossed my mind that the background music could be indicative of what we'll hear in the game, that would be extremely painful...

Indeed, I rather like DMC's ambient music with rocking fight themes. Putting dubstep or w/e into it would be a big mistake. Then again, one can always shot off the music in-game and play soundtrack of choice in the background.

Ah, I wish they hired the guy who composed for Chaos Legion (Hideyuki Fukasawa) to do the music, that was one of the best OSTs ever, even better than DMC... One can dream... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cECpLGK1Fg

Well, Miyamoto just gave his annual TEASE for Pikmin fans. Every single year I have to put up with "Yeah, we're making 3. We're not going to tell you when it comes out, give you a trailer, screenshot, or even a fucking logo, but we're making it." And he said he wants it on the Wii U now, so that'll take longer. I just want to go back to the distant planet with Olimar and Louie, Nintendo, stop focusing on another fucking Legend of Zelda.

And don't think you can hold me over by putting Olimar in Brawl. (That was cool, though.)

Okay, rant over. I just spent the last couple of hours salivating over the new trailers for the 3ds.

Mario 3D has the tanuki suit? Fuck yes.
A new trailer for Paper Mario 3D? Fuck yeah!
Wait, there's a Luigi's Mansion 2?!? FUCK YEAH!!

I need a 3DS. Soon.

Well, for starters, since it runs on the UE3, we already know that the framerate is halved compared to the others games.

I disagree on this. Graphic and art style can influence a lot the enjoyement you gain from a game.

I just don't get why they felt the need to reboot DMC, If you want to make a meth addicted looking self isnert with crappy music go do that game, don't slap "Devil May Cry" or "dmc" to it. Go fuck yourself Ninja Theory.

It's really sad and quite retarded how they're just desperately trying to force this motion control shit down people's throats, like if they really try hard enough people will buy into it.

The problem is, that's apparently what the people want. Motion controls are what propelled a console with last-generation specs ahead of the competition (and basically forced Microsoft and Sony to follow suit). If the Wii hasn't been a success, there would be no Move or Kinect at this point. Granted, the Kinect and Move probably won't sell as well as they're hoping (they're overpriced add-ons, which never sell all that well), but that's the direction things are headed because that's how they think they can make money. Personally, I doubt the people who bought the Wii just to play Wii Sports are going to shell out another $300+ just to have the latest and greatest, but time will tell.

As for what I'm looking forward to from this year's e3...very little. I'm looking forward to Mass Effect 3, but I was sold on that without e3. The Halo 4 announcement was kind of cool, but a Halo game without Bungie might not be the greatest thing ever, so that dampens things a bit (that and I hope that the Halo 4 name is just a working title...I was pretty sure they were done with the Halo things at the end of 3; carry-on with Master Chief, but give him a new world to explore, new enemies, weapons, etc.).

As for what really irks me, for such an impressive piece of hardware, the PS Vita has got to have the worst name I've ever seen. Vita? I'm guessing they're taking that from the Latin for "life," but I keep thinking of nutritional supplements. That's really the best Sony's marketing people could come up with? Nintendo should be happy though, it takes the heat off of "Wii U." Ugh.

Holy fuckin' shit new fuckin' Hitman!
Yeaaaaah. Been waiting for this for ages.
One of the few gaming series that have not yet been raped by consolification.

Ugh, I forgot about that part, that's gonna suuuck. Texture-popping galore.

That's only if the changes are significant. If people are complaining about small things like character's haircut, that's not significant. Most everything else in the gameplay trailer looked pretty much like the city levels of DMC4.

Well, no. We are discussing the haircut because it was changed since the previous trailer not becuase it's the only thing that's bad about him. Basically the original redesign is horrible and with the modified haircut is even worse.

Well, maybe I'm just too used to the new look now, but I can't really tell what exactly are the major design and artistic changes. Everyone screams "the new direction is horrible", but nobody specifies what exactly they dislike, so the whole thing looks like a typical bashing bandwagon.

So they changed the look of the character which should be a travesty to hardcore fanboys but not anyone else; everything else looks pretty much in line with other DMC stuff if only a tad different (well duh, it's a new game).

It's the tone that it's all wrong. DMC (mostly the first game) has its dark moments but overall it was cheesy, over the top and didn't take itself that seriously. Instead now we have a game with a dark tone, a overly serious atmosphere, an angry and violent (according to interview) Dante with dirty clothes. How original! The new direction is horrible because is very generic and uninspired, and just too different compared to the original style.

So they changed the look of the character which should be a travesty to hardcore fanboys but not anyone else

The problem isn't just the change (even though I'm sure you understand that changing an iconic character to the point of him being unrecognizable isn't a positive thing), the new Dante is hardly a remarkable design by itself.

Well, we agree to disagree then, w/e. I think that the "tone" you talk about has more to with story than with design, an element of DMC series I could care less about. Design-wise the gameplay trailer looks bright, colorful and "cool".

As for character design, the face is the only think that irks me, but since you don't even get to see it too often in-game I don't really care. Hell, the DMC3 PC port looked so bad that Dante was hardly recognizable either. The rest of the design - clothing, mannerisms - looks pretty consistent to me.

Could you please set large and several animated gifs in spoilertags ? :/ I don't think that I'm the only one with a computer slowing down when several of 'em are displayed...

I think that the "tone" you talk about has more to with story than with design, an element of DMC series I could care less about.

Yes and no. While it's the non-interactive cutscenes that set most of the tone it's also Dante's mannerism, his looks, the way he says his lines when he executes his moves and the design of the enemies that defines it.
The previous games hadn't Silent Hill/Splatterhouse rejects as enemies for example.

As for character design, the face is the only think that irks me, but since you don't even get to see it too often in-game I don't really care.

Capcom chose NT for its supposed ability with cutscenes and storytelling so you'll see his face a lot. At least the first time you'll play the game.

I don't want to sound like an ass, but which games did you play? The coat/jacket isn't red, his hair aren't white, he's dirty, his fighting style is unrefined (has more in common with Nero, actually) and it looks like they are going for the "silent badass" style like in DMC2. And I doubt we'll see him doing things like throwing roses, swing his sword (which is now completely different and quite shorter) like a baseball bat and twirl his handguns before shooting.
