E3

I also don't wanna sound like an ass, but what demo did you watch? The coat is red, he does get white hair during power-up, most of the fighting moves look like they were copied off other DMC games (though you're right, more similar to Nero - except for the guns), and the enemies look similar to the scarecrows in 1/4.

You may or may not turn out to be right about the cutscenes, but that remains to be seen. TBH, most cutscenes were pretty bad in 4 as well, so it's not like it can be much worse.

Nintendo just announced a new Smash Bros. game for the Wii U.

And the 3DS.

Yeah, uh, Nintendo? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.

The coat is red...on the inside. And he has white hair...when powered up...instead of transforming into a devil. And the Scarecrows (or did you mean marionettes?) didn't have such an organic look.

Let's just agree to disagree, as you said. This is going nowhere.

The new SSB hasn't even begun production so don't expect it in any less than 3 years, probably closer to 4 or 5.

I have to first point out that I rewatched both trailers and I noticed that they made Dante's coat longer in order to be more like the old design. The enemy art style is pretty completely different than previous games and I wouldn't say that it's bad, just a completely different direction. Is it a direction that is DMC? I wouldn't say soAs for the design of Dante, NT's whole thing was that they didn't think that the old Dante design looked cool any more and this is supposed to be cutting edge coolness. I happen to disagree that the old design doesn't still look cool but putting that aside, this is hardly a "badass" redesign.

A quote from an old interview relating to the above:
[spoiler:e9693d2d28]
The essence of Devil May Cry is all about ‘cool. It’s about Dante being cool and making you feel cool when you’re playing it, and so the combat and the style system and everything is integral to that. But, you know, what was cool 12 years ago — I think that was when the first game came out — isn’t cool anymore. If Dante, dressed as he was, walked into any bar outside of Tokyo, he’d get laughed out. What Devil May Cry did when it launched was it brought everything that was great about action cinema like the fashion, music — it was like a cultural melting pot — and I feel like now, for Devil May Cry to have that same impact, it needs to draw on new things. New music, new ways of cinematography, new fashion.
[/spoiler:e9693d2d28]
I found it particularly amusing that they comment about him walking into a bar. I hate to break it to these guys but a lot of cool looking characters would look ridiculous walking around in reality and their new Dante is no exception.

I was also rereading some old interviews and it sounded like they were originally going to have his hair progressively turn more white (he did have a spot of white at the end of the original trailer), I'm curious if that's still the plan.

Dante in Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne had a slight redesing but it still looked cool and stylized. If they worry about the old Dante being laughed at, thsi new one looks like a meth addict.
Edit: Wait I got a bad joke to get out of my system, DMC, DANTE's METH CONDITION!

Nintendo
I don't know, I wish Nintendo stopepd rehashing the same fucking games every year, or if they are gonna rehash it at least rehash the interesting ones, Paper Mario for the 3DS? NOW thats what I am talking about, Luigi's Mansion 2? Oh yeah, Super Smash Bros for the 3DS? emmm I better wait for something else to come out. another Zelda? FUCK IT HARD! One thing I am waiting for the 3DS to be at least announced to be on localziation plans is Layton vs Wright, yeah the game I am waiting for the 3DS is a visual adventure that probably will have spirtes going through aniamtion loops while I solve puzzles, sue me.

Notice how we're arguing inconsequential details again? Yeah...

Sorry to jump in but I just have to weigh in on this DMC argument. The first DMC was literally the most played game on my PS2 and I have played every DMC game since so I like to think that I'm somewhat of a fan of the series.

When the first trailer for this remake, or whatever, came out, I was pissed. After watching this second trailer, not so much. Dante is still being raped but the game itself looks like a decent Devil May Cry. I am talking about the gameplay here, of course. Yes, the art direction and the enemies look different but so what?

Let's be brutally honest here, the story and the setting in the series have always sucked. Apart from the gothic art direction and some of the setup, very little has actually been cool, as people claim. It was all "cool" in the "are they trying to be funny or are they just Japanese" kind of way. There were so many cringe-worthy, melodramatic moments in DMC4 that I had to play FFXIII just to man back up. And are you kidding me about the music? The series has always featured horrendous soundtracks, which sounded like the worst of KMFDM, only with an extra layer of suck.

The one complaint that I do agree with is that Ninja Theory completely missed the point of Dante himself, at least for me. I always thought of him as an over the top character whose coolness is exaggerated to the point of ridiculousness, which made him intentionally unintentionally funny, and in turn, actually cool.

While I'm on the subject of pissing people off, here are a few things about E3:

Wii U. Isn't it what Sony was always going for with PS3 and PSP? It looks like with Vita, it will be pretty much it, only you don't have to be close to the actual console to play the games.

Halo 4. Fuck yes and I don't care what everyone else says. I was a little disappointed that "a new trilogy" was not a new series but I'm freaking excited and I LOVE the fact that Bungie won't be making it. They are an excellent developer and it is their game but they have basically proven to me that they aren't willing to take the series to its' full potential, making very safe and similar sequels instead. Halo could have been the Star Wars of video games and maybe 343 will get it there. It almost NEEDS someone more eager and enthusiastic to take over.

Battlefield 3. I can't believe games like that fucking exist. I'm personally not interested in playing it but damn does it look impressive on a million dollar PC. The various little effects are done so well that it's just unbelievably ridiculous.

Kinect. Someone HAS to make a gif of that guy steering a horse in Fable. The look on his face just screamed "FUN" and Kinect took notice. By the way, Fable Journey is confirmed as NOT an on rails shooter. Still looks like shit though. Another hilarious part was when the Ubi frenchie said that the weapon customization could only be done with Kinect. It did look impressive when the guy pulled the gun apart with a motion. I thought he was about to start removing parts with his hands and shit but then he goes into menus to do that. LOL Up until now, that has been possible with a controller, now you have to scroll menus with your hands? I will go ahead and say that Mass Effect 3 integration was good though. Not $150 good by any means and also gimmicky but if any game could actually use those features, it would be Mass Effect. If one actually gets into the game, and it is a game one is ideally supposed to get into, I can totally see someone want to say the short versions of the lines, like "I will kill you!" type stuff. Also, giving combat commands with a voice, as opposed to going into a menu is a decent use of Kinect, if you already got one for some perverted reason.

The absolute dumbest looking game of E3: Need for Speed: Run. There is just absolutely nothing good about that game. It's just WRONG in every imaginable way.

Oh and by the way, in all years of me coming to this forum, I never noticed that you can expand this fucking window, until right now! This is a fucking epic feature and the best reveal of this E3 2011.

This.

Who the fuck plays a racing game so that they have to mash buttons for quicktime events for something that HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RACE?

well if we RPG players have to suffer from it why should you racing fanacits be spared from the horror that is called quick time jerk-off event ?

And Star Wars is totally awesome and therefore Halo is totally awesome. Thanks, Walpknut.

And yes, can we please have a RPG that goes back to character skill and not player skill?

Am I the only one who wants to play a Fable game that plays like 2? Obviously I'm a minority since Lionhead keeps changing EVERYTHING.

Peter think it's cool to make things easier and different. He also hated game menus so much that he just get rid of them.
I'm not really surprised.

Halo is the Star Wars of videogames, a badly written overrated space opera series.
No idea about Halo (IMO it's bad to compare these things anyway) but Star Wars episodes 4&5 were pretty awesome. 6th one wasn't that good, but back in a day it was still a hit. Saying it's overrated and badly written is too much imo. :| But owkee, opinions differ.

The original three movies are fine and entertaining to watch, they are not perfect but they are not bad, but they are not even half of the "AWESOME; ARTZ!" and other things people claim, and the prequels and most of the Expanded universe suck :p.

Nintendo likes to keep "reinventing" things they haven't even mastered or polished well, The Wii was an interesting console with potential, but it was mostly wasted on party games and terrible ports, or that terrible Punch Out game, but looking at that result they don't think they need to mend it by using the tecnology in a better way, and all in all mastering this new tecnology, no they decide that to mend a gimmick impact on their library (but benefit to their pockets) is to release another gimmicky console that looks liek the controllers are gonna be a lot more expensive than the games themselves.

Yeah, but no other franchise has as much shit for people to buy as Star Wars; that's part of the art of it all. When George Lucas negotiated the merchandising rights for the franchise it was a work of goddamned genius and a part of the art of it all.

The original trilogy (and only trilogy) is the shit, even if it did peak with Empire and start to go downhill at the end of Jedi (fucking ewoks).

Before we change this thread's topic completely, here is my thoughts on Star Wars in general

I still like the original trilogy, Ep4, 5, and yes even 6 even though I now know that putting in the Ewoks was a terrible decision. (I was young at the time when I first saw it)

As for Expanded Universe material, I liked the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games and I understand that the Tie Fighter game and perhaps X Wing Alliance were also very enjoyable.

I have only read a few of the books and the comics, only the ones that interested me like the Thrawn Trilogy, the Hand of Thrawn Duology, the Classic Star Wars comics, the X-Wing Rogue Squadron Comics, Crimson Empire 1 and 2, and that Dark Empire series and epilogue.

Dark Empire was rather a waste but I liked the rest I had read in general, I never felt like reading all those Golden Age of the Sith, Old Republic and other Pre Classic SW period stuff as to me it was pretty much milking the franchise even if some of the stories are good.

Also can not stand the whole New Jedi Order stuff, and Legacy seems like a repeat of the Classic SW period even though the characters and a lot of situations are new.

Back to the E3.
From that list PainlessDocM, posted I can honestly say that almost all of the games shown are of no interest of me.
Of course I do not know all of them and I might be surprised later on this year but right now it doesn't make me plan ahead which ones to buy.

Rage might be interesting but I find in some ways a Fallout rip off (regarding concepts, not gameplay, although...) but I think it will be very rail roaded, showing us big locations we barely get to explore.
Only linear corridors and chambers.

Dead Island, well the whole zombie apocalypse craze is sort of done to death but if this game offers some genuine free roaming and exploration it might be fun.

Mass Effect 3, perhaps I will ask it from someone but I am not planning to buy it myself.
I find it rather overrated; setting, story, and characters.

Halo 4 and Halo.
Yeah yeah, like others in this forum said the Halo games honestly aren't that special and the whole franchise is ridiculously marketed, but at least it gives me an excuse to boot up that Xbox again I once bought.

Probably will still hate the controls though.

Aliens: Colonial Marines, please let this be a decent game for once.
I did not like the last AVP game and I really would like to see a good game based on the Alien franchise again that only takes inspiration from the first three movies.

My biggest fear is that this will be another very short linear FPS with a forgettable storyline.

Only game that could interest me would be a new Metroid, but please not one like Metroid Other M.
I liked the graphics but I hated the storyline and character treatment.

You're not, Lionhead is the minority this time. Reading forums and other feedback people wanted Fable 3 to be Fable 2 but with a less naff story. Instead they got an easy mode Fable with a really long boring menu.
