F3C - Fixing the Main Quest, a Discussion

Agreed, and could be implemented in "bethout" with some hard work and dedication. The question is, how to intertwine the vanilla purifier plot with the evil doctor presper... Brainstorm, folks!

Make it as big side quest not required to finish game...

I had an idea; since we(or you, or other modders) probably wont have the resources to hire a boatload of Voice-actors, is to use the "zelda" way of voiced dialog:
In the Zelda games, every NPC only has one or two spoken lines usually in the form of "hello" or some other type of exclaimation.

The bulk of the text is not translated into voice-acting, resulting in long winded speeches and "intricate" dialogs without having to have the aforementioned boatload of voiceacting.

I think this could be used for a dialog-un-retardation-mod to great effect!
Suggestions/Feedback?

But doesn't that break canon, as Van buren is located in the mid-west?

Yes and no, I think. Point being, as a brilliant scientific mind he -would- attract the attention of the enclave one way or another, and to pry him into the D.C. wasteland would require an incident (project purity) - or incentive. And there are already numerous control towers for the BOMB001 in the D.C./Baltimore area. In canon, it's somewhat evident that the enclave pretty much ends with fallout 2. However in bethout, it's revived with 'president' eden. We can also assume that since the enclave does not arrive for some time, that they are on the move across the american wastes, and could come in direct contact with doctor presper in the process.

I don't think we know nearly enough about the van buren plot to do it justice. All we have is the broad strokes.

i don't think beth's enclave is too..out of canon, my only difference is i'd make them a ex-military kind of deal, where they used to be big shots now they're more of a ragged band of people who hold onto an ideal thats been destroyed.

great weapons and armor but nowhere near the power they held in fo2.

Yee right i alone wiped out their Navaroo base and after that their Oilrig...sure they were a power...afraid of direct combat so they were expecting to win with a virus...

Maybe for Van Buren plot unlock some map sector make entire plot ther and for example after it player will travel ( teleport) to dc and maybe be a assistant/bodyguard of dr li in purification project

Would it be possible to contact any members of the Van Buren team, to see what their ideas were for continuing Fallout, and maybe add them in or expand on them?

No feedback on the zelda-speech thing idea for dialogs?

I was just wondering if it was a viable choice, also wonder if it is possible.

I think floating text would also help greatly in improving the atmosphere of the game, since the random non-dialog lines of NPCS suck bawls

The zelda-speech thing is doable, but all dialogue still needs a speech file - so there would just need to be a blank entry for 99% of dialogue. I'm not sure if mouth movement is automatic or pre-programmed however.

Afaik, floating text is not doable.

That's seriously the most retarded programming mechanic i've ever heard of, and i work with SAP on a day to day basis...

Bethesda has been using the same system for many, many years and many, many games. This may come as a shock, but Fallout 3 is the *first* Bethesda game to incorporate *gasp* DIALOGUE TREES. All previous versions were completely linear, where each NPC could communicate every single piece of conversation in the game, and flags were used to determine what lines the player/npc could use. And don't even get me started on the unpleasantness of the gamebryo engine they persistently use.

Probably not. I have a bad feeling about using the van buren plot anyhow as there is SO little info to work with and trying to match chris avellone is an incredibly tall order for a fan mod

There is a blank spot between escape from prison and getting to know the truth behind Dr plan, this spot can be for our ideas connecting it with dc and stuff without chris continuing it

I got idea...

Dr.Victor Presper is your dad insted of this lame one from F3 :)

But how to make it all in work so it will make at least some sense i have no idea...

Well that's what I mean, there are huge blank spots where we don't know how things are meant to be presented, what kinds of characters are presenting them, their motivations, etc.

All that's available is the stuff that would go on the back of the box. It's like taking "Famed explorer Indiana Jones searches Cairo to find the Ark of the Covenant and wrestle it away from the Nazis" and trying to extrapolate the entire movie out of that and expecting it to be just as good as the real thing.

Yes, but there's a fair amount of information and a lot of areas that are fairly fleshed out. There's more information there than just a quick punchline on the plot idea.

I read the design docs out of boredom. Yes, I am pathetic.
