Factions on the side

Water Chip? Been There, Done That
What did everyone think of the minor factions (If I knew how to make a poll I would, but I don't know how...). I thought the minor factions were well thought out, and I liked how each minor faction had a small storyline. So what minor faction did you like the most, Enclave Remants, The Kings, Followers, BoS, Great Khans or any of the casino families?

My favourite was the great khans, mostly 'cos the'r storyline for me was very fun and enjoyable, and I liked their locations and NPC's. I also liked how they were like recurring characters in the main storyline; beginning cutscene, boulder city and the recruitment quest.[/list]

I really like the Khans and what becomes out of them in the longer run (depending on the ending) with the help of the Follower. It's like an old evil which we know since many years (from Fallout 1 and 2) slowly changes and becomes something good. To me it really shows how things can change over time in the Fallout setting.

Also I really liked the Follower. Would have liked some more quests tho'. And I really hope that the Followers aren't doctors now for the rest of Fallout's time, who run around in lab coats forever. This would really suck.

The Enclave Remnants in combination with Arcade's quest are with the best too, imo. Especially after I got them to help me against the Legion and the following ending slide.

I was disappointed by the BoS. Thought it would have been better... I like how they are now how they should be, but then comes in how horrible the bunker looks like and the quests they give me... meh.

Yeah I liked how the khans have slowly but surely have been crafted into what they are now, it's good. Because in FO1 they were antagonists, FO2 somewhere inbetween, whereas now they're good guys, somehow, but I also like how you can persuade the people at the drug factory to start making meds, so you can help them leave there past behind if you know what I mean.

Yes and now it's good that they changed it. :p Else it would really feel as if they are in the game only to have some more baddies to kill.

Yeah, I stand corrected.
This topic should have just been called let's discuss the khans and how great they are. But I like how people agree about my decision with the great khans.

I do like how, over the course of three games they went from random raiders to a cohesive tribe (of raiders) to something akin to Indians in Oklahoma, as the NCR took over, with Bitter Springs filling in for the Sand Creek massacre.

The Kings. Which is particularly hilarious as I thought the Kings would be one of the most ridiculous factions in the game.

After a while though I wanted to be able to put the King in charge of New Vegas. :P

I think the returning factions kinda felt a little out of place in the game now... I understand they wanted to build continuity but I could've done with factions such as the Followers or the Khans just being... something else.

I did enjoy the Great Khans on their own though. The Followers not so much. Just don't think there should be a complete do-gooder faction like that. Generous people is of course realistic but I dunno... The cynic in me just likes the dirty, corrupted factions more.

I think the faction I had the hardest time accepting was the Boomers. Something about them just rubbed me the wrong way. Since you can get in pretty easily via that dude's instructions, it just doesn't feel believable that they've stayed isolated so long to me. And the whole questline with you raising the bomber up to the surface and them sending robots to get it back... eeh.
I love the idea that they settled in the airfield though, that's neat.

Same, I thought they'd be a hilarious group that tries to impersonate elvis and be FO3-retarded.
They are one of my favorites groups after I played the game.
They are also my favourite "Vegas Family". They sound more mob than the chairmen and omertas combined.

can you really call them a "faction" though ? As they seem to be more indidviduals that just came together again to rock the world once more. But hey. They are a group at least.

From the factions the Kings made a nice impression to me.

Enclave Remnants.

I'm still convinced there are more Enclave out there.

If you listen to ED-E's recording, it says that the enclave have a base of unknown proportions in chicago, illinois.

They're definitely there to study the Calculator, perhaps even raid former eastern BOS bunkers and take any technological advances made by them. Perhaps Obsidian has another mid-west Fallout idea in the making? Enclave vs. the remnants of the eastern (true eastern) Brotherhood of Steel under general Decker's descendant?

Ha. I'd actually enjoy that, if you could finally side with the god-damned Enclave.

It's not so much that, with concerted and sustained effort, you can get in, it's why you'd bother:

For the average wastelander, there's little gain for the risk of getting your ass blown up.

For the NCR and larger factions, they're a non-issue - they don't have anything anybody needs and they don't get in the way of empire-building.

My thing about the factions is why, even with all the despicable, murderous factions there are out there, you can still parlay with almost all of them - The Khans, the Powder Gangers, even the Fiends - but not the random Vipers and Scorpions whose gang members you experience as mere target practice from point A to point B.

Hell, even [spoiler:4dd693c135]a pair of kidnappers, slavers and child rapists you encounter in Westside[/spoiler:4dd693c135] will say something to you if you prod them.

I thought most of the small factions where pretty good.

Khans: Solid guys.

Boomers: Kinda so-so on these guys. I don't see these guy staying isolated for too long slinging artillery shells around. I liked their air field base though.

Powder Gangers: Not much to say, pretty generic.

Followers: I liked these guys. Seems like they are at least trying to help people.

Enclave Remnants: Not bad. They where just that, Remnants. I'm disappointed that their are more of then in Chicago, which they might as well just keep adding them cause by FO12 we'll have them in other countries.

Kings: Well done actually.

The Boomers were by far my favourite minor faction and Nellis Air Force Base had some excellent quests. Bringing the sunken bomber to the surface of the water was a fantastic moment, and I just loved the amount of detail that went into explaining the logic behind everything; basically, "why don't you do it yourself?" and getting an answer, "this is why", which can be applied to the whole game.

I did like how the Boomers view wastelanders as savages and how everyone views the Boomers as gun crazy savages. There was a nice social disconnect with them.

The Kings are great, it's a shame you couldn't have done more with them. If they had a few more fleshed out characters who offered quests it would have been awesome.

The Remnants struck me as slightly sad. Very few games give you a feeling of time gone by and seeing the soldiers looking old and grey gave a fairly melancholy feeling.
Also I quite liked the staff working at Navarro, they were quite nice for a bunch of people hell bent on genetic genocide.

Yeah, the Boomers were great. I loved talking to that one kid about their history: "All we've ever dreamed of is dropping explosives on people with impunity." The decision to use a kid instead of an old person makes it go from kinda weird to just plain funny.
