Fallout 2 Restoration Project 1.2 (Unofficial FO2 Expansion)

Had an unusual happening while playing RP 1.2; went to use Dr. Henry's mutant cure on Grundel in the military base, but apparently a rat or maybe even Grundel saw me just as he finished dissolving into a pile of goo and he reformed to try to attack me. I still got XP for the quest and the mutant cure item wasn't in my inventory or on Grendel's body, so I don't think it was the bug where you can use it on him in combat and still get the XP and finish the quest.

Hi, I am new to RP and enjoy playing this excellent mod, but now I got some problem when loading the saved game file. It said something "instrunction at 0048b439 referenced memory at 00000001. The memory could not be read from" and then the game crashed. I can start a new game and load this new game with no problem but all the old game saves don't work. I am in Redding with Vic and sulik in my party. Can somebody help me out with this.

I provide one of the save file

From the readme.txt file:

Note3: Previous save games before using this expansion will no longer work. You will have to start a new game!

Assuming you mean you can't load save games you made before having the RP installed, that's the problem.

Installing either the RP, or the unofficial patch will always invalidate old "vanilla game" save files.

Thanks for the reply. All the save games are from the latest RP. I followed the installation instructions in RP readme. I don't know when these saves become "corrupted", it seems they work fine when I am in modoc.

edit: solved, the party ai session in the save.dat is corrupted

Oh just a tip for the PR 1.2

I remembered a little error in the design of the deathclaw cave in Abbey.

I shot the deathclaw in the eyes, blinded it and it ran outside the hex.

Now this can happen anywhere, true. But it would be wise to make blocking borders of the walls and stuff cause now it's like walking inside the walls and everywhere and I can never kill it.

So yeah... Just an idea to fix those borders there...and maybe make the entrance a bit wider so you can shoot from the angles.

minor minor minor minor issue. Dont touch this if you're lacking time. I'm really waiting for 1.3 so that I can play Fallout 2 for the last time in a long time. Just gonna try some evil pathway, I always go soft on the end.

then I'll wait for a big mod to come and not touch the game.

Okay, so I don't believe this installed correctly. Isn't there supposed to be a change in the version number on the Main Menu? It just says "Version 1.02.24 EXP 1.2"

Is that how it's supposed to be? Or does Patch000.dat need to be deleted? (It doesn't appear in the correct location, rather under apps etc.)

I have, in fact, read through the entire Readme. For one thing, the rock is not present. And for another, what is the version number supposed to be?

@ Xic Nox,

If you use Vista some of the stuff you install goes to the .../Appdata/VirtualStore/... folder because of the stupid UAC, if that's what you meant.

If you installed the RP manually you have to remove patch000.dat, and if you use the installer it's supposed to do it for you. In case that failed you will have to remove it yourself.

I'm not sure if you know of this, but The Brain in Gecko is horribly bugged, perhaps even more now than without the RP. These bugs occur in every playthrough I've had with the RP v1.2, on different systems and with identical Fallout installations.

1: When I first talk to him, the player acts as if I've already spoken to him. I'm not sure if it*s the original dialogue, in which case it isn't the RP coming short, but I seem to recall there being at least some kind of introduction.

2: When I talk to him with the Hy-Mag in my inventory after having given the optimization disk to McClure but before fixing the plant, he repeats the last line anyone said to me and then crashes the game. This one time I went trading at Percy's before seeing The Brain, and then when I talked to him he said "That'll be all for you then?" and then bombed to desktop.

3: When I talk to him after having repaired the plant and ask him about Festus' optimization disk, his dialogue lines revert to the ones about Gordon's economy disk, which I've already delivered long ago. This happened when I asked him who in VC I should deliver the (optimization) disk to.

4: When I talk to him after having optimized the reactor disk but before optimizing the plant, I get the option to say "We had a deal. Withdraw the creatures and I'll optimize the plant". The problem is, I haven't been to NCR, haven't got the Vault Village's location from Stark, haven't learned of the rat infestation and haven't made a deal with The Brain.

I'm just avoiding The Brain altogether now. Of course, besides him behaving oddly, the RP is pretty much bug free.

Issues with The Brain is known. Everything should be in order with him in 1.3

You mean now The Brain (the rat if i remember correctly) will now be able to conquer the world?

Added: Nope, seems I`ve mistaken. But still the question remains - will the Giant Rat in Gecko will be able to conquer the world? I don`t wanna kill it, I`d like to rule the world too :P

I think it should be a joinable NPC. :D

You should have to let it eat any Cheezy-Poofs you find or it will try to kill you.

At least it`s kinda sad that you have to kill it raver than help it to establish a powerfull organization. I have some kind of fetish - Giant mutant Rat - ruling the world...

P.S. Yeah, a joinable NPC - great idea. Sulik - save the sister. Rat - to KILLEVERYBODY!!!

Thank you Killap for this most excellent (unofficial) update pack! Even to this day it keeps me firmly hooked to Fallout 2.

Now, a quick question:

My trusty old Thinkpad T21 has finally passed on to greener pastures and I am having trouble finding a platform to run Fallout 2 on. I'm not sure if I can run Fallout 2 on my Vista x64 and eventually W7 x64 so I acquired a Mac OS X copy.

Fallout 2 runs just fine on my Powerbook G4 (so no intel platform here), but do you have any ideas for a universal binary macbuild of the Restoration Project? I quickly flicked through the project info and I couldnt see a mac version anywhere. If there are no plans then I guess I have to get another Thinkpad from somewhere.

The RP depends heavily on sfall, which only works with the Windows version of the game, hence no Mac RP. I might eventually reverse enough of the engine to make a Mac version of the RP, but that will probably be announced at the Duke Nukem Forever release party.

Fallout seems to run well under Virtual PC, which is cheaper than buying a new laptop.

I'm guessing this is also a known bug, but... I can jinx every slot machine in New Reno into giving me money. Lots and lots of money. I was totally perplexed at first, but then guessed it was a bug with the RP. Later I read that this is somehow related to a quest in the EPA, but all I've done there is bring Myron to the Doctor and accepted the Golden Gecko quest, I haven't entered the main complex. Of course, this bug is so awesome, I'm almost reluctant to report it ;)
