Edit: Nevermind...only seems to happen during certain opening sequences. O.o

Hmm...Again, I need reports from other Vista users to see if similar things are occurring.

Hey It's me again! :D. Apparently equipping a solar scorcher at beginning of the game will cause a crash. Yeah, I cheated a little. :P

Heya.

Not trying to sound like a butthead or anything, but what changes necessitated the new .exe? I'm trying to get this running on my Mac, and so far, just copy/pasting the Data folder into the right place will let the game load, but I get the black screen with the cursor trails, etc.

Something graphics related, I assume? Is this easily changeable?

~Edit~ So I read the wiki (!), and I"m not terribly sure that much of the sfall changes are relevant to a mac installation. The time adjustments/windowed mode/d3d9/mouse wheel stuff is more or less windows side only, and the only stuff that seems to effect the game in any meaningful way (On a mac) would be the time limit/perk/script functions.

Is it possible to work around most of these things?

Well, for one the Kaga encounters, Gecko verti assault encounter, and a few other things require sfall. The most important thing, however, changed in the exe (but now done through sfall) is the city limit patch which allows for more cities in the game. Without this, there is no way to include more locations. Unless there is some way to address this in the Mac version, the Restoration Project will never work on Mac OS.

Perhaps because you are wearing the Vault suit?

Been playing for several nightly hours and encountered a CTD in the Primitive Tribe area.

Description :
Installed on a Win98 OS (as FO2 runs better there than on my XP system) .
New installation (humongous install) of Fallout 2 (english version) then RP 1.2 with all the Extras checked.
Nothing else, no other mods etc...

Completed several quests without a problem, got Sullik on the party made some experience level and after toying around in The Den, i headed directly to the Primitive Tribe as i never went there in RP 1.1

I uploaded a saved game on filefront if you need it (it is saved on SLOT 10) in which i saved near the area, you just have to exit the map, then head to the nearby Primitive Tribe.
Once you stop, trying to enter the Primitive Tribe map will always lead to a CTD.

I tried to increase the art_cache_size to way more than 255 but it did not help.

Nope i stuck the solar scorcher in the temple. Didn't have a vaultsuit on. Not a big deal, I took it out and replaced it with a super sledge.

If you don't mind, could you try the save in XP as well. There was a report before about crashing when entering the Primitive Tribe and I think the individual was using Win98.

EDIT: Save works just fine for me. No crash at all.

The 'primitive male' model doesn't have pistol animations, which is why it crashes. It does have SMG animations, as Sulik demonstrates.

Doubtful, then. I only have a vague sort of understanding as to how mac .app's work; even so I may try to get with Timeslip and see if I can't work out how it works with him.

wine works on mac os. Assuming that the data files in the mac version are the same as the windows version, you should be able to run the RP installer with wine, which will then install a copy of the windows exe, and then run that exe with wine.

No idea how well that will work. I don't have a mac around to test on...

Only hitch with that plan, which is a good plan, is it requires me to have an Intel-based Mac. Which I don't. And if I did, I'd just cross-boot into Windows and not have to worry about it.

The data files for the Mac and Windows versions are identical, though. The only real difference is the program used to read them.

In any case, I guess I'll just have to wait until this fall to really mess with the RP; I'll have worked long enough then to throw some money at a real Windows PC and not have these issues.

Killap, thanks again. I`m glad that the release of RP 1.2. is happend. Now it`s really time to re-play Fallout 2 again :D Thanks again!

question. is it advisable to install the AP ammo fix if i plan to install the weaponms redone by magnus?
That would be a bad idea, because this would make AP ammo way too overpowered. I also believe I've answered this question in the "What Else" section in the first post in my mod's thread, but then again I can't expect all of you to read the whole damn thing everytime I pop out a new version  By the way, my mod is now at version 1.3b, and I've finally reimplemented and fixed the .223 Pistol/Mauser issue.

EDIT:
Killap, I've been so rude as to include F2WR in the compatibility list in the wiki, with a warning not to enable Glovz' AP Ammo damage mod if you intend to run both F2WR and the RP together. Feel free to remove this if you like.

• There is now a diplomatic way to end the Kaga encounters.
• Solar Scorcher is no longer obtainable from the Guardian Portal encounter. Instead, it is found at the EPA.
• Changed weapon placement at the EPA to improve overall game balance
#Zippity doo dah, zippity day, my oh my what a wonderful day! Plenty of sunshine, heading the critters' way in a blazey ray of doom!#. It gets better too. Magnus made the Scorcher BURN STUFF :D. Looking forward to playing EPA and getting fair gear.

Thanks for adding a way out for the Kaga encounters. Seriously, that guy's more of a threat than Frank Horrigan. You can't plan for him, pick your fight or even push the NPCs out the way of his hail o' deadly bullets. Oh, and could you explain how the Kaga encounters are determined? Is it on level, location, or what? I want to play a slow game as an unarmed character, and don't want to run into Kaga before I can cope.

What check(s) must I pass? Cause at the first encounter, I HAVE to fight him... Or is it supposed to be so?

Killap, thank you a thousand times!!! You're the man, dude!!! The Restoration Project is something you must be VERY VERY proud of!!!=) If I were a girl, I could kiss you=)

If my girl weren't taken, I'd get her to kiss you.

I'm leaving the den at this point and no bugs encountered so far. One question though.

does the diplomatic way of dealing with kaga mean he dies (skill check i guess) on the second encounter?

I got kaga on the second encounter but I got distracted and wasn't able to see the floating text they say to one another but at the end got a message saying something about movies then he died from receiving 7000+ damage.

I haven't tried the encounter again but is that what it's supposed to do?

BTW thanks killap and magnus for the answer regarding the AP ammo mod. good thing i played safe and did not install it.

I can confirm screwed up colors on Vista, but this is not new to 1.2, I wonder if this is not a directX problem. Sometimes when I start the game, everything is fine, sometimes not. Alt+Tab to windows can sometimes fix it, or break it.

I've always had this on Win98 and XP as well: intermittent color/screen/graphics problems, completely unrelated to F2RP. The most common of these problems is that the game's fade-ins and fade-outs become really slow or really fast. The second most common is that colors look like they've been reduced to 16 colors or something.
