Possible bug with Kaga encouter.
It was my 3rd encounter with Kaga. I shot him twice with my magnum revolver and he dropped unconcious. Battle ended and I was able to loot all his things. (I thougt that was fixed with RP 1.2.)??
So did I. In any event, I mention a while back that I found a real solution to this and it will definitely be fixed in RP 1.3.

Getting a fallout appears to be running in compatibility mode error. Didn't happen before installing RP 1.2. Also tried disabling compatibility and turning it on.
This was set by Timeslip in his tweaks. There is no need to run the game in compatibility mode anymore. Are you saying that despite not running it in compatibility mode, it still fails? What OS are you running?

Killap thanks for these mods of yours.

But I'm getting the same error.

I've installed successfully Fallout 2 > UK Official 1.02e > manual F2 resotration project 1.2.

But when use your XP/Vista patch I get "Fallout appears to be running in compatibility mode" error which its not.

Now if I replace these with your Win95/98 patch it works but tends to be unstable at times. Rarely happens. At the moment this is my setup till XP/Vista path files works.

I've tinkered with the ini files to adjust different setting hoping to find a solution. But I don't think there is a relationship between the two for this error.

I'm running VISTA Ultimate 32x with sp1

Any help I would appreciate it. I'm continuing to tinker and hopefully stumble onto some solution.

One last thing. On the first page there are some fixes Do I need to add them? I've downloaded your latest Manual Restoration 1.2 zip file? Are those select fixes included?

Thanks,

WH

Are you 100% sure compatibility mode is disabled? Also, did you note the rest of insanepipe's comments?
Okay got it fixed, turns out i had some options in compatibility mode still checked. Unchecking them solves the problem.

If the rock at the beginning of the game says 1.2.2 then you are good.

Sure? If you look at the compatibility tab, there are no options checked? If there aren't, it could be that vista hasn't cleaned the empty key out of the way. I know xp is good about cleaning it, no idea how vista behaves though.

Visit 'Software\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\AppCompatFlags\\Layers' in the registry and get rid of the fallout2.exe key. I'll change sfall to check that there's actually something in the key before complaining about it if that helps.

Thanks I'll give it a try. I think your idea may be sound.

Killap yes I know how to setup Vista games and deactive many stupid feature in Vista.

I'll update you guys shortly.

Updated: I remove those lines in the registry and the error still shows. Would I have to reboot for it to be affected?

By the way your sfall.dll file works its ddraw.dll one that doesn't.

Thanks,

WH

I have done lots of testing on the map corruption issue in San Francisco. I got a save from Golan2072, and after that I managed to reproduce the crash on my own saves. It's super confusing, and I have had a lot of problems of things happening consistently. When I thought I had found some patterns all of a sudden it would no longer work, and then later it would start working consistently again. My troubles may have to do with old temp automap.db and temp map*.sav files. When the game crashes these are left in the map folder, and I believe these are read when I start the game up again. This may also be the case if I load a game without shutting down the game first, or not, I don't know.

One thing I'm certain of is that if I take the file SFCHINA.SAV from a save after talking to Juan and Vikki, but before resting to get the crash, and then open it in The Mapper or Dims Mapper and save it (without doing any changes), then put it back in the save slot, I can no longer make that save crash.
So I'm wondering what is the mapper changing? Is something corrected, not being saved, or not being read and therefore not saved?

@Wolfehunter

With Windows, rebooting is always good. Also, are you sure NO options are checked in the compatibility tab?

Correct and will reboot to see what happens.
Do make sure the registry lines are gone again in case running the game re-added them.
dang it no change....

Ok I removed the ddraw.dll and started the game. It loaded but ctd. So there something not compatible in that ddraw file for VISTA.

I don't know why its happing. :|

Regarding the Enclave Vertibird Assault team you call from the Gecko plant: Is there any reason each trooper has two guns? Each body had two HK G11E's and one had two Gauss Pistols.

It's really cool this was added. It was a fun fight for my pre-power armor party.

If that line is gone from the registry, it's impossible for sfall to be displaying that error. The key has to be present and fallout has to have read access to it before it'll crash out.

Timeslip, ddraw.dll doesn't work. sfall.dll does work. Or do I need both?

They're both the same thing. sfall.dll is the win 9x version, and doesn't have the compatibility mode check. ddraw.dll is the xp/vista version that you should be using.

Yup but ddraw.dll doesn't work with Vista.
I've used Standard User Analiyzer to see what the error messages.

I can only run the game using sfall.dll in vista.

I don't know why its doing this.

I just told you... It will display that 'Fallout appears to be running in compatibility mode' error if a fallout2.exe key exists in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers

Are you sure you checked HKCU, and not HKLM or something?

Ok Thanks again for your help. Sorry for being a pain in the rear. It wasn't my intent. I was in the wrong one above. Now its fixed.

I have a couple of questions reguarding the ini setup files.

I know the video is alittle off when using the dx9 fullscreen feature.

Is there any setting that is optimal for improving this issue?

Hardware scaler vs software scalers? Which is better to use?

If software which one of these is ideal and what are the differences between them?

Default scaler

2xSai

SuperEagle

Super2xSai

hq2x

advancedMame2x

letterbox

Thanks for your time and help.

This is going way off topic. If you want to talk about sfall, please use the sfall thread.

To answer that last question, it's a matter of personal taste. Try them all, see which one you like best.

I don't know? ddraw.ini file for ddraw.dll.
Its on topic because it has the same ini file and same config info.

I've found two things playing this time around with the Restoration mod that I never ever experienced in years of vanilla play:

1. the back room in Vic's house is locked and I cannot even begin to unlock it with a %35 lockpick skill. It's batter-proof, as well.

Note: a perk for battering too many doors down would be humorous

2. I have been stealing all over the place with a %15 skill like I've got a 300. I never get caught. The only place where people seem to be on to my tricks is the primitive village. What gives?
