Fallout 2 Restoration Project 1.2 (Unofficial FO2 Expansion)

In San Francisco when talking to AHS-7, he says "You are not wanted here. Please leave now". And then the forcefields are lowered to give you access to their base. That doesn't make any sense, if you are not wanted the forcefields should remain up.

Also I was wondering exactly what is saved in a *.sav file. I know it's a compressed map file, but how is it different from the original *.map file? What's added or removed?

Still an awesome patch, but now FO2 isn't working on my computer...the only thing I've been doing lately is playing a bunch of Fallout 1, and some Tactics. Maybe Fallout 2 got jealous, and has decided to punish me...I'm running FO2 on Win98, with a Humongous install, and the RP. No other mods, patches, or anything else. What happens is that the game quits to desktop right after the loading screen. No intro movie, error message, or any other indication that something is wrong. I've tried just a Humongous install, without the patch, and the game loads fine.

Yo, I got a question. Does anyone can tell me why Horrigan is so hard to kill? In my game (and I'm playing the 1.32), the only thing that seems to work against him is Sgt Granite's Y42B... but my problem is that I didn't choose to pick the energy weapons skill at the beginning... I've got a very high small guns skill, and I try to shoot at Frank with a M72 Gauss Rifle, but he seems to be immune as regards my bullets. Same thing for the other guys of Granite's squad... they can't make Frank lose a single HP...

BTW, I also play with the turrets... same problem, none of them as been able to inflict any damages to Frank...

So, does someone can tell me if it's a bug? If not, my opinion is that it's not well-balanced.

I believe that I have figured out my problem. While still curious as to why a Humongous install was causing trouble with the RP, I've found that it works fine with a Small installation. Free I am to once again enjoy the awesome which makes up the great being known as...Fallout. Lots of cheers for the bear dude.

Are you using the AP Ammo Mod? The turrets and most guns will not work on Horrigan, with it on.

Open the ddraw.ini file in the Fallout 2 folder with Notepad and change DamageFormula=0.

Though do you think you should be able to hurt Horrigan with a pistol? (role-playing question)

It always seems funny to me when people want to kill the hardest character in the game with a pistol. The turrets I am looking to fix in my Combat Overhaul Mod. I may have a fix for that coming soon.

... Thanks, but since my last post I managed to kill the bastard. As I said, the most effective weapon against Frank seems to be the Y42B... so I loaded a savegame before crossing the sea and I got more xp in energy weapons skill.

Yeah, I realized it was because of the AP Ammo mod.

What do you mean by "pistol", 'cause I tried the YK32 Pulse Pistol against Him, and it works very well.

Well, this is the way I see it :

Even with the AP Ammo mod, I managed to kill a lot of enclave soldiers around Navarro thanks to my Gauss Rifle. I shot them in the eyes, and most of the time it was critical. The fact is that they were wearing power armor, but it didn't keep me from not killing them.

Horrigan wears a power armor too. Yes, you could argue that his armor is more advanced, which is the reason why I didn't manage to hurt him... but I think that the dammages, as you're using a Gauss weapon, should be much higher than they are actually when facing Frank. The description of the Gauss Rifle suggest that almost nothing can resit a gauss bullet (so, if Horrigan isn't hurt by a Gauss, I wonder what is armor is made of... what I know for sure is that it can't be the usual power armor material, or it would make sense he's hurt like any other enclave soldiers) :

"The M72 rifle is of German design. It uses an electromagnetic field to propel rounds at tremendous speed... and pierce almost any obstacle. Its range, accuracy and stopping power is almost unparalleled".

P.S : of course, the F.E.V virus makes Frank much stronger, but it's not enough to explain it. In my game, I killed super mutants very easily.

Can anyone explain me the way that NPCs should level(if there are no bugs at all)? I've installed the removal random element from leveling thingy.

It would be very good if anyone explains it all, but I need to know at least if I get Skynet on level 7 and he stays me all the time, how many levels will I need to level him up fully(AFAIK he can gain up to 5 levels).

P.S. What do I need to do(install/remove)in order to get rid of the NPC leveling bug?

Definite bug, though I can't remember if it was in the original game. I face this large party of robbers in combat armor in a random encounter cave. I'm at level 15 or 16. These guys are packing pulse weaponry, enough to rip me apart with the substandard equipment and weak NPCs I have. Thing is, they don't use those weapons. They just charge towards me and let me mow them down. Awareness tells me they're holding the weapons, but they actually aren't. They don't even make an attempt to hit me with their fists at all once they come close. Anybody have any idea what's going on with these dudes?

It stores the current state of the map, rather than the initial state when you first enter. Critters move around, items are picked up, and map variables change.

@ encinodude:
That bug has been around since the original game, and sometimes affects other critters such as raiders. I don't know if anyone has figured out what causes it. Watch out for the ones with mega power fists, because they will use them.

Regarding the Hubologist crash, the only thing joining the Hubologists changes outside of their base is IIRC your reputation (and reception/conversation) in SF-China; maybe the crash is related to this?

I am currently having a crash trying to attempt the "Vault Village" quest. I got the quest quite a while ago, but ignored it until now.

When I enter the vault village, all the mole rats are dead, and there are no NPC's (Other than one lady in a tent). If I attempt to leave, the game crashes.

Other than not doing this quest, can this be fixed? :/ I assume I waited too long and it broke?

Install info:
(Humongous Install) US Fallout 2 v1.0 + RP v1.02.25
Windows XP

You probably waited a month and VC invaded the village - Stark tells you this. The lady is there probably because her script was not updated to reflect the quest line changes I made.

The crash, on the other hand, is something not good. Please e-mail me a save game.

Oops, I guess I missed that part where Stark mentions I have a time limit.. doh! But yea that crash is bad (It will happen 100% of the time).

Save sent to the address in your read me. The save I have is BEFORE entering the village, so I'll just ignore that place for now and carry on.

Thanks!

Well, the village will be invaded within a month unless you get a time extension (then you have 2 months). Once invaded, there is nothing more you can do for the village and you failed the quest line. Just to make sure this isn't a bug as well, you did wait a month after first getting the quest from Stark, yes?

Thanks, I shall investigate the cause of the crash.

When you do the air purifier and missing people quests in Broken Hills, you can recruit Marcus.

But if you get the new quest before that, you can finish it just in the evil way - you need to talk to Marcus to do this, but you cannot do it, since he is in your party. It is not working even if I tell him to wait.

By the way, please reply my previous post. I need to get my NPCs as early as possible(shortcuts)and need to calculate how many xp can I allow myself to gain.

@Blackened

Below is a list of the requirements for NPC leveling. Provided you have installed the mod which removes the random element to the leveling, your NPC will always level up when their requirements are met.

There is no real solution to the leveling bug found with the NPC armor mod. Not everyone is effected, so hopefully you won't be.

Code:
Myron:
Player must be at least level 6 to begin leveling
Will level up every 4 player levels

Marcus:
Player must be at least level 12 to begin leveling
Will level up every 3 player levels

Cassidy:
Player must be at least level 10 to begin leveling
Will level up every 4 player levels

Sulik:
Player must be at least level 6 to begin leveling
Will level up every 3 player levels

Lenny
Player must be at least level 10 to begin leveling
Will level up every 5 player levels

Cyberdog:
Player must be at least level 9 to begin leveling
Will level up every 4 player levels

Goris:
Player must be at least level 10 to begin leveling
Will level up every 4 player levels

Vic:
Player must be at least level 5 to begin leveling
Will level up every 4 player levels

Skynet:
Player must be at least level 10 to begin leveling
Will level up every 4 player levels

Dogmeat:
Player must be at least level 6 to begin leveling
Will level up every 3 player levels

K-9:
Player must be at least level 12 to begin leveling
Will level up every 4 player levels

Thank you very much!

Also, there was someone on Abbey with a line or two in his dialogue without capital letter and full stop(I can't seem to find it now)it looked very weird. And you should put capital letters on the names of the slaves at Primitive Tribe - play a while and then go there and hit anyone of them - you'll get what I mean.

The robots at SAD can fight even when they're disabled - it is present in the original game, but maybe it wasn't meant to be this way.

I'm going to EPA now, will edit this post later if I find any issues.

By the way, was the Dogmeat/Marcus armors intended originally?

@Killap

I'm having some trouble with Fallout 2 with your RP 1.2.
I'm running Vista 64bit, with 4GB RAM, and from time to time Fallout 2 closes with some sort of memory fail.

Below I place 3 screen shots, of the errors, that I captured:
fallout2errorklamath2xi6.jpg

fallout2errorklamathgk5.jpg

fallout2errorvr5.jpg

Can this be related to your RP or can this be a Vista issue, or even a RAM issue?

Thanks :D

Possible bug with Kaga encouter.
It was my 3rd encounter with Kaga. I shot him twice with my magnum revolver and he dropped unconcious. Battle ended and I was able to loot all his things. (I thougt that was fixed with RP 1.2.)?? Then after a while he got up but nothing happened. I attacked him again and after first turn he had got enough. I got the floating texts but then kaga proceeded to run off the map instead of just dissappearing during black screen. Well, I ran after him and before the edge of the map hit "A" key to attack him again. Managed to shoot him twice again but when my turn ended the game crashed...
I have a save game with kaga unconcious and also a previous save just before I met him if needed.
