Fallout 2 mod Fallout 2 Restoration Project 2.2 (Unofficial Expansion)

Just finished the game today and registered here to share my thoughts.

It was my first time with the Restoration Project installed and it was freakin' amazing, I absolutely loved every bit of the new content. My favourite part was the EPA, it's a great example of good game design: you have some tough fights to fight and some hard puzzles to solve but you get a big reward at the end. It was really hard to choose from the 3 potential companions but at the end I've settled with Kitsune, it's always good to have a girl in the team after a painful divorce in New Reno. :D

You guys also did a stellar job in polishing up Fallout 2, there are just a very few bugs left in the game. Well, there are 2 big ones I've noticed:

- the good old bomb bug is still there, if I planted some timed explosives in someone's pockets and killed the guy I usually ended up with crashing the game.

- sadly the special encounter you've created after you finish the game is a bit buggy: if you save your game and load it back while there your car disappears.

Overall this was the most complete experience I've ever had with F2. Thank you guys for this, you've basically created one of the best expansion packs to an RPG ever, it ties into the original game in a very natural fashion and adds so much more detail to the world.

Pixote you heard the man, PLEASE do your magic on the hubologists shuttle interior!!!!!!!!!! :D

I would have to make the whole scene in 3D...I image it would look something like this. Maybe one day, at the moment I'm committed to finishing Mutants Rising...

[spoiler:f30f903f92]Which will be the greatest mod ever. :P [/spoiler:f30f903f92]

First of all I'd like to thank killap, .Pixote., Timeslip, Dravean (greatvoice job!) and everybody else who was involved for making this amazing mod. I've been waiting for the final release of RP ever since I found out about it back when it was still in version 1.0 some 5 years ago.
Hell, I've actually NEVER finished Fallout 2 due to postponing my full play-through for when RP is all done and ready.

Now, does anybody else find themselves able to save up perks for later? That is; I can skip a perk at level 3 and 6 for example, then I could pick 3 perks at level 9. I'm absolutely sure it wasn't this way in original Fallout, and pretty sure it wasn't this way in RP 2.1.2 either.

Another thing, I get "Ops! xxx was hit instead of yyy..." even though yyy is already dead and there's none else around! Am I shooting a corpse instead?

I don't think a save game is necessary in those cases but I can provide one if it turns out I'm the only one with such issues. I will try to reproduce the bugs with different character and will post an update.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I'm using latest RP 2.2 auto install on top of a clean, humongous install from Fallout 2 ISO (I own multiple original CDs so it's not a piracy, just a convenience).

Edit2: Savegames are 3 posts below.

I don't know about the first one as I've never tried saving up for multiple perks. As for hitting dead enemies instead of live ones I'm pretty sure that's not a bug, I've completed the game numerous times in the past 10-12 years and as far as I remember it was always a thing.

@up
Take that attitude back... somewhere. I'd much rather hear about a bug then perhaps somebody else might be able to reproduce it without much hassle at all, instead of never finding out.
Not optimal but better than nothing, imo.

I forgot to mention another minor bug; you can get experience for both trapping and killing (220 combat XP, not the 300 XP for finishing the quest) the Rat God in Klamath Trapper Town by luring it away from cave in area.

I'm including save files for both the perk and Rat God XP bug since apparently none tried saving perks for later. :p

http://www.speedyshare.com/ZkvXc/RatGod-PerkBug.zip

Blow up the support using dynamite, wait for the XP to kick in then kill the Rat God to the left.
As for the perk bug, just give locket to Anna for an immediate lvl up and open char window again after picking a perk.

No, that's not the way it was in the unmodded game. It's not a bug though, it's a deliberate change in sfall. If it really bothers you, it's pretty trivial to get the old behavior back via script. ( if(get_perk_owed > 1) then set_perk_owed(1); )

Edit: And yes, people do do that. It was a request at the time, and now that it's been in for a while, some people seem to think that the way you can't pick multiple perks at the same time on the character screen, and have to exit and reenter to get the perk window to show up again, is an original fallout bug. :p

I assume that means it's going to stay this way as a default in future Sfalls/RPs?

Makes me wonder whether it can be considered a 'cheap' tactic?
Saving a relatively weak lvl 6 perk for an additional Action Boy or a Living Anatomy at 12, in exchange for being one perk behind for certain amount of time... Hmm...

Either way, thank you for clarifying and all this hard work you've put into making Fallout a better game!

Have you checked the ini files there is specifically a fix for this in one of them, did you accidentally delete it?

Actually, I was saving up perks for later before I ever heard of Killap and the RP - it was a vanilla game exploit I often used.

I never took any perks from level 3 or 6 when I was using the vanilla game with the official patch. I always hit the level up screen, cancelled picking the perk, upped my skills and exited. Whenever I re-entered the character screen, the perk was waiting for me to pick again, and if I had two perks waiting, I picked one then exited and picked the next.

No you didn't. I wasn't joking when I said you couldn't do that in the vanilla game...

For the past few years official distributions have included sfall and/or the unofficial patch, depending on age and where it came from. (Guess that means it shouldn't be called 'unoffical' any more? :p) so what you think is the 'vanilla' game quite possibly isn't.

Interesting - I used the European version from the Fallout collection boxed set. I never tried with Fallout 1, but Fallout 2 and Tactics both had that option straight out of the box.

Entertaining to note that the official copies now come bundled with the unofficial fixes. I only wish Bethesda would do that with their releases of Fallout and Skyrim, as the unofficial patches are worth more than the official stuff they put out.

Thanks for the kind words. I always love to hear someone say how well the new content fits together and that it brought more joy out of F2 for them. It makes all the years of work worth it.

Huh, really? Can you reproduce this? What were the exact steps you took? We spent some time trying to fix this and those of us testing weren't able to cause a crash with the latest fix.

Hmm, interesting. I'll have to take a look. Got a save game?

EDIT: And looks like I found the problem. Should be fixed now. A save game wouldn't hurt though to confirm the fix worked, but I think it's all good.

Heh, yeah and they never told me that this was going to happen. I wish they did, because I think the unofficial patch that comes with it has a small bug introduced by me (which has been fixed since of course)

@everyone: I'm trying to keep the bug wiki up-to-date. Every bug posted (with a save game, screenshot, enough details) has been fixed. I just need to make sure the installers are happy with all the versions of F2 out there and then I'll release this update. I did leave some comments on the wiki, so if you posted a bug and it is now marked as "Unconfirmed", please respond.

<s>It would be cool to get a Steam copy of F2 as a gift, but I don't like to ask for things for free, so I'll just say this in passing. ;)</s> (You people are too kind, thanks!) I already have enough copies of this game, so it would be a waste of money for myself, but if need be, I'll buy it to ensure that the RP installer is as smooth as butter.

Slowly playing through, I put 3 minor bugs on the wiki. Once again, stellar work sir. Will keep posting any other glitches I manage to find.

I need some help. I played 2.1.2b 4 times. When i used my doctor or first aid skill, it was happening very quickly. But now i have to wait 5-6 seconds. I don't want to wait. My second problem: When i was playing 2.1.2b my resolution was very high and my speaking-barter screen was filling my monitor's screen. But at 2.2 if i speak with some people, speaking screen only fill 1/4 of my monitor. I want to change that. Sorry for my English. Please help

Has anyone who is experiencing a laggy / slow mouse movement in the starting menu tried the fix I posted? It's still working for me..

No, I didn't get a chance to. As I said in a later reply, I hooked up a second mouse, which didn't experience lag. Then I changed screen resolution to something else and back to my prior setting (1920x1200 w/ 2X scaling), and the problem magically vanished on the G500 mouse.

I have absolutely no idea what part of that sequence fixed the problem, but it hasn't returned, so I haven't had an opportunity to try your fix. I've disconnected the secondary mouse, and I've rebooted multiple times since then, and still no problems. I recorded both your fix and my bizarre solution on the wiki, though.

I am wondering about the quest given from marcus

after you help jacob to free people from jail
and then go to marcus to report it (jacob and hsi wife go to jail)
if you do the second quest the missing people and din't spoke yet of the people that broke out they also go to jail
But u cannot tell marcus about the people that broke out
or do they go immediatly into jail?

AFAIK
u could report the people u helped break out first
and then you could still report to marcus about the missing people and hence jacob and his wife go to jail

but in this case it's either of them

that normal?

Minor bug

I found a minor bug that I've been able to replicate up to five times with hakunin, even if you don't say anything mean to him, when he makes healing powder he will say "I hope they are of no use."

That's not a bug. You have to keep in mind that Hakunin doesn't like to speak in a straightforward manner. What he's saying is that he hopes that you don't get injured, and therefor will have no use for the healing powders. It's just is way of saying that he hopes nothing bad happens to you.
