Fallout 2 mod Fallout 2 Restoration Project Discussion (ideas/suggestions)

I think this 'sister' turned up being more important than the devs originally intended.

With all due respect, Killap you should drop the talking head, it's better to leave it to mystery than a black and white transexual tribal.

The slaver camp is a great idea, you can replicate the map from FO1, the raiders camp. Think of it like "Tandi revisited".You can put the sister in one of the cages, along with a ranger prisoner.I am all for the Slaver/Ranger quests.

Don't forget that the reason Sulik joins your quest is TO FIND his sister, so don't put this early on in the game.Save it to about NCR.

Keep up the good work!

I agree with this point... The talking head isn't going to look right at all, I'd prefer to just see a snap shot of the character instead (like whenever you barter with a merchant).

Yes, but if you read my message you would see that I am attempting to colorize the head. Obviously if I fail in this area (either I cannot do it or someone doesn't offer some help) I won't be including it. I clearly stated that the image was a test and just an early example of what her head might look like.

And I also think it is quite clear from the picture that the individual is a young girl.

I was saying you should drop it entirely, stop waisting your precious time coloring and bleaching.Anyway, girls don't look like that over in Europe.

You obviously have better things to do.You asked for our opinion.

Can you possibley be more demanding?
Anyway shes suppose to be a tribal not a girl from europe.
And finnally he joins you because you helped him and hopes he may find his sister on the way.

It wouldn't be too hard to color that picture, but it just wouldn't look right. You'd need a higher quality image, plus (to match all the other talking heads), a front view and animation.

Which is why I agreed with Smoke_Jaguar.

Hey killap could i get a guess at the finally size of the mod, an update on the sub part, i cant seam to find the topic anymore, (didnt really look that hard.....) thanks.

Im thinking its gonna be over 30 megs... and the sub part sorta trailed off after noone spoke about it for a while. And im wondering if he figures out how the turn the bow of the sub into a scenery object.

Hi!

This is my first post here, so please be gentle... :)

First, a HUGE thanks to Killap for the patch that is finally allowing me to play through F2 without a ton of bugs! :)

Now I'm REALLY looking forward to this 'Expansion' mod you're working on; many of the other mods here are fun, but one that adds the 'unfinished but intended' stuff is what I've always wanted.

Personally, I'd love to help in any way I could. I've no clue about scripting, and am only just learning the mapper (not as hard as I thought, thankfully!); I'm a writer by trade, but I'm sure you've got enough of those to help polish up translated/missing dialogue.

However, one thing I MIGHT be able to offer that others can't is help with the 'talking head' graphics problems mentioned a few posts back. I'm a 3D artist (using amongst other things, 'Poser') and would be happy if I can help in any way with anything, such as the afore-mentioned 'heads' or anything else!

Click the link below for my own 'artistic interpretation' of Sulik's sister (I've attempted not to exceed the 90's 3D style graphics of Fallout 2, and also used the 256-colour Fallout palette... (to see how she looks in that).

The nice thing about working in 3D is that making mouths move, changing facial expressions, etc. means not having to hand draw the whole thing for every frame!

Anyway, if this is no use to you, I won't be offended... feel free to just take this post as just "keep up the great work... looking forward the mod!"... but if I CAN help in any way, feel free to let me know!

Cheers,
Banjo

PS Keep in mind, this is very much just a 'test shot'... if you want me to do this 'properly', it will all be done to spec in the right formats, etc.!

Wow! Very nice. I am truly interested in getting a picture in place for Sulik's sister so any help would be immensely appreciated. If you could continue with what you did and make it in the right .frm format I would truly be grateful. Thanks!

As a side note on progress. Much too busy at the University to get much work done. Went through some more ideas though so work is progressing.

Textures and render could be much better.
Could you explain little more precisely what's wrong with textures and the render?
No shadows at all, bad lighting, poor skin shader, poor hair shader. Fuzzy and lowres tatoo texture.

Just confront any of original heads with killaps one. Quality gap is more than obvious. (with all respect for any fan creation)

Ever think its not finished yet? Dont be a condisending douche, the Original Fallout talking heads were made by carreer artists who could devote large ammounts of time for thier crating.

Sorry, I've seen hundreds of similar slightly modified poser models. This is 30min amateur work which I cannot really admire. With todays tools it is possible (and quite easy, considering that all art are 2d sprites, so models can contain high amounts of polygons) to create comparable art to original one. (just wait for next Fallout: Between good and evil actualization  )

edit: For now, take a look at two fan-made heads from czech artist Boomer.
