Fallout 2 Restoration Project (v1.1) Suggestions

This thread is a great idea, Morticia. Thanks for opening it.

I found three recommendations while sifting through the FRP threads for the wiki bug section, and consider them valid enough to be posted here. My apologies for failing to record the names of the people who submitted them. Perhaps they'll see their recommendations posted here and subsequently identify themselves.

The Dunton's

If you don't talk to the Dunton's on the Brahmin map after rustling for them you don't get your cut. Since you can't go back to the pastures, maybe you should be able to talk about it on the town map as well?

First Citizen Lynette

Lynette promised to grant me Citizenship if I solved the problem with the reactor, but never did. While not a bug per se (and this is how it should be according to the Per's Guide), it's somewhat illogical.

The Sneak Skill

An improvement on the sneak skill. There are so many doors and shelves, such as the door to Metzger's room, and the shelf behind the First Citizen to name a couple, that are only accessible with use of the sneak skill (or killing them.) However, when you finally do get a look at what they're guarding.... it's absolutely nothing. I recommend finding all these empty opportunities, and making the sneak skill as useful in the game as I believe it was intended to be. (Perhaps they just forgot about it?) I really hope this is considered as a future enhancement. Playing a sneaky character is quite appealing for a new experience.

I think I was the one who wrote this some time ago. I don't know if this was a RP 1.0 bug that has been fixed or my game that got corrupted, but it definitely works as it should now.

Gecko and Vault City Endings are contradicting each other
That happens when you optimize the reactor, but don't give the economic data disk to McClure. It could work with a slight modification: VC stagnates and is taken over by the NCR. The new, less xenophobic management (they have Dayglow, after all) recognizes the value of the power plant and starts working with the ghouls in Gecko. Essentially the same ending for Gecko, replacing VC with NCR. As long as the VC ending is shown first it would make sense.

Thing is, what Lynnete wanted was that the Ghouls be shot down. I think you should have the hability to shot the Ghouls and then come to her so you tell her to send her crew to take and reactor and then, you can become a citizen. Or something.

Should't fighting Kaga off give you some experience?

Also, why Kaga walks alone? What about getting the guy some party members?

Agreed bout exp, but with his personality - how could he have companions? :-)

Hired Henchman? Friends? People who live in Arroyo-like places and agree with Kaga?

No, my example (or rather DreadSquirrel's) was for optimizing plus giving the data disk to McClure.

If you optimize, but don't give the economic data disk to McClure, you get the ending where VC invades Gecko.
And yes, that ending is also contradicting the VC ending in that example, if that's what you meant.

cheers

Re: Lynette,
I have always gotten citizenship from McClure, then have the 'Solve the Gecko powerlant problem' crossed off by telling Lynette 'it's been dealt with' rather than admit I didn't kill all the ghouls. I usually kill Bishop for Westin also (since I will eventually wipe out all 4 New Reno families anyway) but I have never figured out how to receive any of the quests between Westin and Lynette either. So I don't know if this was changed any between the original and RP versions. Since it was confusing in the original, it might be something killap could define better, but I don't know.

Re: The Duntons,
'Guard the brahmin' and 'Rustle the brahmin' work fine. I'm still not sure about the 'Find out who is rustling the brahmin' quest. I end up going back and forth several times between the 2 Buckner women, before and after confronting the Dunton's with the evidence. I always complete it somehow, but this should be sorted out better and not be so confusing.

As I might have mentioned before, I imagine killap is most interested in making sure that everything he's already added is working properly. (for those who can follow simple installation instructions, at least.) Great suggestions, but adding more new features is probably low on his priority list, so we should try to focus our suggestions on things that are already there, and how they could be changed and made a little better.

Kaga encounters, traveling with the car, proper game endings, are good examples of useful suggestions. New possibilities that were never in any Fallout game should be directed toward MIB88's Megamod instead. New weapons, perks, critters, areas, etc., would be great, but I don't believe that is what killap intended with the Restoration Project. (IMO)

Wait a sec, now you've got me confused. Doesn't withholding the holodisk from McClure ensure the "good" ending where Gecko is left alone, VC stagnates and is eventually taken over by NCR? Perhaps my memory fails me here, or there's another factor involved?

Yeah, IMO the back and forth Between Lynette and Westin is pretty tricky to pull off. I've succeeded a few times, but can't remember whether or not I actually got the ending where they marry.

Seconded.

Yeah, there are a lot of good ideas out there. When I'm able to mod again, I will probably work on some of them.

Yeah, true... Oh well, back to the bug board :-)

I don't remember things too clearly either, but according to Per's guide:
"1. Gecko destroyed: Blow up the power plant.
2. Gecko and Vault City form uneasy truce: Fix the power plant but don't get the Reactor Holodisk from Festus.
3. Gecko invaded by Vault City: Fix and optimize the power plant."

Then there's the new fixed good ending:
4. Spirit of cooperation between Gecko and Vault City. Optimize the power plant and give the Gecko economic data disk from Gordon to McClure.

@ MIB88,
Oh I do hope you continue to work on your Megamod! With all the screwing around I've done with the Restoration Project, I am almost confident enough to try and install and play it. :)

@ Darek,
That was what I imagined the best ending for Gecko would be. The ghouls help out in the expansion of VC in return for medical help, or something like that - like the Vault 15 squatters make a deal with NCR.

@ Everyone else,
This really doesn't belong here but: What are you guys doing to the RP wikia page? I mean, I know I did a proper installation and never had half of those bugs. Who is doing all the confirming also? "It happened to me so it's 'confirmed' (?)" A few new lines should be added to the rules there, so I'm posting this here since it's mostly the same people at both websites.

Someone added:
"These are bugs in the February 22 release of v1.1. Don't report bugs unless you know you have a proper installation of this release (with all fixes and without any optional mods)."

What fixes? I never added Nevill's fix or Timeslip patches. I simply installed and played a version downloaded on 09 April and I think those 'fixes' must have been already included.

1. There WERE silent updates after 22 February. Add the date of your download/installation.
2. If you installed any of the optional mods, that is important to note also.
3. What OS you are using (98, XP, Vista) seems to make a difference as well.
4. You should also note anything else you have done - sfall adjustments, Nevill's fix, etc.

That page is going to be useless to killap without some sort of consistency there. :(

I still haven't touched the wiki page... I really can't remove anything from there. I guess the only person who could have benefit from that is killap - "This here bug - already removed.." etc... He's the only one who'll know what has been removed and what is still in there.

P.S. I suggest the "3 step plasma transformer" quest gets"fixed" or whatever. If any of you read the RP topic, that quest is "one time only", only if at that moment you have an upgradeable weapon it's doable, otherwise not. You can even return with an upgradeable weapon, but you won't get the quest. I suggest & hope killap can make it work more than one-time-only.

From DEREK:

When you complete the deal between the squatters and NCR, a new map is used for the Vault 15 squatter area.
This revamped Vault 15 map has a bug, once you set foot on that map you lose your car, and the placement of the player's characters is always to the south, even if you enter from somewhere else.

This has nothing to do with Darion or leaving the vault, as soon as the squatters join NCR you can't go back there without losing your car.
Unless someone more knowledgeable than me can help you, my advice is to reload an earlier save or start polishing those boots.

Partly my bad. I "confirmed" reports whenever I found a second post backing up the original complaint. I also "confirmed" a few "no brainers" such as typos and garbled dialog lines. From now on I'll transcribe all reports as "unconfirmed" until killap acknowledges them as valid.

Hitting 1-4 on the town map brings you directly to one of the map areas, whether or not it's supposed to be entered. That should let you get to the old squatters map.

No, that does not work for me. 1 and 2 gives the new map, 3 gets some kind of weird cloning garbled graphics crash of whatever map I visited last, 4 goes to the vault and 5 to the north-east area.

@Slowhand,
Confirming by seeing that there is more than one report is the only right way to do it. (It is only confusing me that others find problems I did not.) I took your idea further and changed all the confirmed typos to say "TYPO". It would be nice if someone knowledgable could separate the list even more, by changing 'CONFIRMED or UNCONFIRMED' to MAP, DIALOGUE, SCRIPT ERROR, etc., if they know what causes it.

@Darek & Kanhef,
This Vault 15 map bug is one I never saw before because I always leave the car in NCR. Was anything in those maps changed in the RP expansion? How can this be happening now if it didn't in the original game?
