I called the number.

You get an automated message that says "welcome to Vault-tec.. all of our representatives are currently busy.. you're number blah blah blah in line... thank you."

woooo.

Nice nick u got there, ever heard of G. by any chance ?

I like the laser effects, although I would prefer that the lasers cut the enemy to bits rather then toasting them as in the original. It looks like the effect that should be used for the plasma weaponry.

Thank you for calling vault-tec, your first choice in post-nuclear survival. We're sorry, but due to unexpectedly high call volume, all representatives are currently busy. Please, stay on the line and someone will be with you as soon as possible. There are 101,000,000 callers in front of you. Estimated wait time: 78,643 hours. Thank you for calling Vault-tec. Have a wonderful day.

So, after seeing gameplay previews. I'm wondering what those who initially were vehemently against it feel?

I felt F3 was going to be a fun game. However, like I said above, it just doesn't seem like Fallout.

It looks okay.
I was excited to play it, but as you said, I didn't see much Fallout in it.
And after I watched it twice I started noticing problems which took away my initial excitement.

Now I'm just indifferent... well, I still despise the direction they're taking, but as far as the game mechanics in itself, I couldn't care less. Looks like an improvement over Oblivion's combat but that's not saying much.

Well, considering the fact that we STILL have yet to see how the inventory system works or any of the dialog mechanics, my verdict is still up in the air. However, I will say that I think the combat system looks a lot like a poor man's Gears of War. Hopefully the actual game leans away from a lot of this silly exploring/shooting stuff and gives a nicer balance between heavy questing and dialog with some fighting in between. I prefer exploring without so much gunplay. I actually like the visual aspect of the game if you consider the fact that the world is open, as in Oblivion, that there are no levels and hardly any loading between, it's pretty good. My biggest gripe with the game is the fact that it's called "Fallout 3".

Yeah, that was one of the things I worried about as well. I was hoping to travel long distances without having to shoot my gun every couple of minutes. I'm also hoping for more role playing encounter rather than just combat.

Visually, not the way I imagined Fallout world to be. I always thought of Fallout as a vast barren wasteland. Kind of like the wasteland in "A Boy and His Dog." However, I do like the new visuals, all the junk, ruined towns, etc.

Oh yeah, for the first time in Fallout history, I have a feeling they are going to make expansion packs for the game like they did with Oblivion and Morrowind. I don't think I've ever purchased an expansion pack or ever will.

The variation in quality astounds me. Some shots look brilliant... others pretty good for 2003.

Case in point: this (nice) vs. this

I mean, if you make an FPS... at least make nice weapon models and textures so that it doesn't look like a steaming pile of amateur shit from that perspective.

After all this hype about (at least) the graphics being outstanding, I am a little more than a little unimpressed.

Hm... It looks quite healthy for a ghouls...
genital. Well, except for being severed from
the rest of the body.

I am not going to complain about graphics, as a game with fairly bad graphics can still be good. And also the less focus is put into making every thing look good the more focus is spent on the other aspects like game play and making a large game world.

Also the picture messes with the forums scale, could you please shrink it.

Hence, I hope more time is spent exploring rather than fighting with Bethesda's idea of "cool" gun models. Frankly, I think that aspect sucks, but even though the environmental visuals don't quite match up with the Fallout world, they still look somewhat good. I do agree, that Super Duper Mart pic is just terrible, from the raiders who look like clones of one another, the general emptiness of the scenery, and the downright stupid name of the grocery store itself.

I don't understand what was wrong with the original design for the laser pistol, the one from the first two Fallouts... for a company that claims to love the game so much they sure made a point to change as much as possible about it.

What was wrong with it?

[sarcasm]
Bethesda just knows how to make everything hip, man. You know that! The old stuff had too many curves for Bethesda and we all know blocks are like totally way cool.[/sarcasm]

Possibly they tried to create a midsized laser weapon and had to think up a new design, as in the original their is no middle ground between the pistol and the large sniper-like laser.

I believe there are actually two types of laser pistols in the second game... not sure though. Anyway, the new one looks like an espresso machine. The original laser pistol is pretty sick looking, from a fan's point of view it would have been great to see alot of those weapons rendered in three dimensions.. instead it seems like they pretty much redesigned every single weapon.
