Fallout 3 Operation: Anchorage Launched

I don't really mind that. The energy weapon category is pretty sketchy, and I can see why a gauss rifle would fit.

Anyway, I'm always amused by the reaction to DLC. It's always so overwhelmingly negative. I can't imagine why anyone would want to spend 10USD on this in the first place.

oh, I was just joking. I actually agree. I mean, I play games to be the hero etc, but I prefer when the circumstances feel at least a bit natural and it's obvious that the developers tried to make sense.
Exactly thats what I mean. Youre always the "hero" of some sort regardless of what game really. In Fallout most of the time you represented a "special" character as well, either as Vault Dveller or Choosen one. But still it never meant the world only waited for just "you". It was somewhat displayed ina better way compared to Fallout 3 that is here a lot closer to "Oblivion" in worst cases and "Morrowind" in the better ones. ... And I just hate this approach in RPGs.

I dont see why they could not just did it in a way that you happened to run in the outcast and they asked you to do the simulation for them cause it was extremly dangerous and they did not expected any one to survive it (particularly not you!). I would think about a similar situation like the Glow if one knows what I mean. They as well gave you some kind of "task" or "duty" just that you leave ... and actualy the surprise when you retourned. Same could have been done with the simulation were everyon was surprised that you made it.

Funny how they manage to piss even their own audience off...
They actualy have become quite skilled in it over from Dagerfall to Morrowind and Oblivion.

Its only naturaly to expect that evolution to go even faster and further with Fallout 3 to the DLC :P

What ever if it is "small guns" or "nergy" is one thing and I would not complain about that. But it definetly should NOT run on MFCs when it did on 2mm EC amunition. Which was nothing with Energy in the first place but projectiles. The sources for the weapon would probably be energy and it might have been ok to make the weapon use both Energy Cells and 2mm Ammunition since its a powerfull weapon afterall. That would make even sense.

How it is now in the game its just another "letz make this anything but only cool!" approach ...

Yes, it might be a borderline weapon, so the recategorization isn't that bad. But having it run on MFCs instead of shooting 2mm ECs?

Gauss Rifle = Energy Weapon? What kind of retardation is that?! In Fallout 2, Gauss Rifles were small guns that fired a 2mm EC projectile at high speeds and with deadly efficiency.

Although all seems well on the 360 LIVE service, the DLC isn't showing up on Games for Windows LIVE in many countries, like Australia, New Zealand, Holland, Portugal, Japan. No one knows why. Fail.

My boss at GB reported it showed up earlier on 360 LIVE in the US than it did on GfWL, as well. Looks like a Microsoft mess-up.

Well I only spent 4 quid on it as I already had 300 points spare from the Fable II dlc.
Was alright though a bit of a ripoff to pay any more.

The gauss rifle is only single shot now as well which is a bit of a pain if you miss.

An easy way to fight "Hei Gui" soldiers will undoubtedly be with the Fatman, if it is available, which it will be, for no good reason.

Add Canada and Norway to the blunder list too. Epic fail.

Great! I need a hotfix for Games For Windows LIVE to install Archorage  The problem is that the hotfix Microsoft points me to (WindowsXP-KB938759-x86-ENU) is english and won't get installed because of the language (Mine is the danish version of XP) A funny sidenote is that the hotfix is required to get files larger than 500Mb to install, the Archorage file is around 352Mb

Oh well let's  again

It's not that crazy. It isn't a traditional firearm, and would probably require the same sort of "skill" as the other energy weapons. The category itself doesn't make much sense, because the unique skills would have more to do with maintaining the weapon than hitting your target.

But it is stupid that it doesn't require projectile ammo. I wonder if it isn't really a gauss gun anymore.

Nah, its not a traditional firearm, but it fires 2mm projectiles that rely on kinetic energy to kill targets, and its a rifle = Small gun. Its totally diferent from the Gatling Laser, which is a borderline big gun/energy weapon. It was a energy weapon in FO2 and a big gun in FO3. If they wanted to make a new energy weapon, they should've just made a Pulse Rifle.

I'm thinking of it from the skill perspective (because that is the only reason that the category exists). Are the unique skills required to operate a gauss gun more like the skills required to operate a laser rifle or a sniper rifle? I honestly think it fits into the energy category a bit better, if only because the energy category has such a wide internal variance. But like I said, the categories themselves don't make much sense. Could you really be an expert sniper, but completely unable to hit the broadside of a barn with a loaded laser rifle? That doesn't really make sense. In general, it seems that laser guns or gauss weapons would be easier to fire versions of their traditional counterparts because of the lack of recoil.

Hey! What are you doing? You might scare the kids away with that kind of crazy talk. F3 is already super complicated & challenging. We don't need another unique type of ammo & corresponding weapon that fires it to make sense or be believable in any way. All we need are more awesomz wepOnz! Logic be damned!

Also another delightful nugget of the eternal wisdom that is bethesda :

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/M72_Gauss_Rifle

So...a weapon which does 100 damage and fires relatively plentiful ammo has a price of only 500 caps eh? Way to un-fubar that robust value oriented economy you got goin there bethy.

More "easy cake" for all, dig in!! May I propose some new industry slogans? How bout 'No gamer left behind' or 'Making games stupid so you don't have to be smart'! or 'challenge is gay' (probably my fav).

I see the future of Fallout 4 following the Mass Effect and foregoing ammo in favour of weapons having overheating effects and cooldown time.

Ammo?

Needlessly complex.
