This is really shaping up to be a game that will be held as a highpoint of the RPG genre, fondly remembered and still enjoyable in a decade. Bethesda has really captured the spirit of the original Fallout, every new bit of information only further confirms that point. The energizing break from the turn-based combat that dominates the market; the subtle and sophisticated humor they pen; the clear importance the company places on choices and consequences; a true successor.

You, Sir, are in a desperate need of some of those: :wall:   :liar: :wiggle: :seriouslyno: :lalala:   :revolution: :aiee: :drunk:

My last hope is that Beth leaves enough modding tools to make it possible to mod this to turn-based. But given their support of Oblivion (modders had to custom-create their own modding tools) this isn't going to happen.

Re: Kotaku...

He explained that Fallout 3 was ultimately a product of Fallout fans, for Fallout fans.

Am I the only one amazed by this fact... it is *for* FO fans?

Am I the only one feeling a bit 'left in their dust'? That they're abandoning the FO fanbase, and taking up the FPS and TES crowd, and giving *them* our title?

Bethtrayal Softworks ftl.

The previous wave of info about Fallout 3 made me a bit angry, but not this time. Either its because I feel its less bad, or maybe I feel like there is some good news.
I dunno, I have this feeling like they are trying to address some important (to us) issues like the "almost" isometric view.

Won't change much for me anyway. I'll still be wary of F3. I still dislike Beth for crappy PR. But at least, I moved up from "disgusted and wary" to "pissed and wary".

Are they doing a lot of things to make Fallout mainstream?
They’re “just doing what is cool”, they admitted that games today have a huge emphasis on graphics, but that they wanted to bring back some retro gaming features (ie - speech trees)
Speech trees are now a retro-gaming feature.

And we now have an answer for the nuclear-catapult among other dubious decisions.

Actually, I'm more amazed by the fact they (Beth, the old hag) call themselves Fallout fans.

Are these people real :| ?

It looks like the Brotherhood is only one platoon, which sounds good, but their main missions seems to be killing mutants, which sounds worse.

The conversations with Simms and Burke show off both the new AI system and the new focus on NPC interaction. An improved radiant AI system allows for even more behavior and dialogue options on the screen and your speech skill allows you to influence an NPC to do things that might not necessarily be in their best interests. For each dialogue option that makes use of the speech skill, you'll see a percentage chance of success. You'll want to take note of these numbers because if you fail, it's likely that you'll really irritate the person you're talking with.

This is funny as well. What does Radiant AI have to do with that? Wasn't this "innovative system" in Fallout 1 and 2 already?

Actually, to me it sounded as if there probably were multiple Brotherhood platoons going about their business. Could be wrong, though.

Yep. What's worse, in one of the other previews I saw a reference suggesting that a conversation between the sherriff and his son was completely unscripted, and was purely the result of two people recognising eachother.
Which is rather ludicrous. At most they have an NPC 'collision' script that fires off the right dialogues.

don't ghouls eat corpses or am I wrong?
Largely unconfirmed. No one in Gecko did, but Set in Necropolis makes some references to it.

I don't get that thing about "it feels more real in FP", when did Fallout ever feel real? I mean super mutants and ghouls aren't exactly what I think of when people ask me "thing about something real".

Maybe the super mutants stole a McGuffin from the BoS and ran off to the east coast, and the BoS non-idealistically followed, and it all ties into the plot??? :o
