Fallout 3 Review: Official Xbox Magazine

Yawn. I will play for myself. Reviews sometimes help me make a choice for a game, but other times I just ignore them. Like Assassin's Creed for example. EGM gave it a 6.0 average or so. Yet I really enjoyed it.

For reference, I think Mass Effect got the same score. It is a little surprising that it supposedly received a higher score than Fable 2, though. That's actually an exclusive game published by MGS.

Now there is a game that deserves a 6.0 from me. Mass Effect was bad. The faces looked like crap to me. The dialogue was way overhyped and the story was mediocre. Pretty graphics save it from a worse score.

Fallout 3 will be a good game, it just won't be like Fallout 1 and 2, which sucks but I have come to accept that.

Yes, you have to...but we don't :P

This made me laugh. Hard.

Mass Effect was dumb trash, I agree. However, it still looks to have FO3 beat on all levels, except for the open world non-linear thing (a rather small world it seems). Graphics, animations, sound, writing quality, combat, and even AI all appear to go in ME's favor. So where does that put Fuckout 3 on that scale?

Once again, I think everyone should actually PLAY the game before they dump on it. No, looking at gameplay videos is not the same as playing, no matter how you put it. I am very excited about this game, yet I wouldn't go as far to GUARANTEE that it will be awesome. Just give the game a chance, please?

AHA! Thank you for mentioning this. Who knows what this means?

Fable II is even more overhyped than Fallout 3?

They're finally tired of Molyneux' shit?

I dunno, I'm not excited about either game.

You can't say anything bad about Fallout 3; you have to wait until screenshots are released!

Fallout 3 looks like garbage? Well, wait, you need to see the trailer!

It still looks bad? Wait until the gameplay videos!

Oh, the videos are miserable? You should just wait until you play it.

Oh, it's still awful? You can't judge Fallout 3 until you've played the whole thing!

So, you've played the whole thing and it still sucks? Try playing it a few times through.

Wow, Fallout 3 is still crap? Just wait until Fallout 4! Then you can give some criticism.

With all the information on it, largely having to go around Bethesda's wall of silence to get it, why on earth with all that's out should I pay 60$ to give a game that looks to fail on so many levels a chance to spontaneously come to life in my hands once the controller is in my hands?

You want me to give it a chance?

Talk to your friends at Bethesda and tell them to release a play demo like oh so many other games to give me the chance to, yes, as you say get it in my hands and perhaps discover it is a totally different expereince when actually playing myself.

But that might derail their hype machine and reveal that everything isn't as peachy keen as they claim.

As an aside,

I actually quite loved Mass Effect and it's one of the few games like it I can actually play through more than once. I have a lot of hope from the whole franchise and not being a terribly big fan of shooters it's rather an innovative example to me that you can use one as an RPG and have it still be engaging for me, while Fallout tries the same thing afterwards and it seems to be such epic fail to me.

It also corrected somewhat the 'Evil is Dumb' side that KOTRO had where if you try to play evil you're basically just a meanie, which to me is rather pathetic and childish view of simply being selfish and self advancing. I could play as Renegade in Mass Effect while trying to play as a bad guy in KOTRO just bored the piss out of me. Shows they've grown a bit and will probably have a similar amusing morality in Dragon Age.

Given that one game in my opinion obviously deserves a 10 and the other so obviously doesn't though it's kinda pathetic to even have reviews these days since it seems unlikely to be able to sort the wheat from the chafe with their help and I don't wanna have to hunt down someones honest expose on every game I show the slightest interest in.

that's taking it a few steps too far, buddy.

I've always thought that you should wait until you know more and get your own personal experience before you completely judge something. in the beginning when all we had was a handful of screenshots and interviews I was always like that: "wait until we know more about the game until you completely dismiss it". as time went on and we saw more of it my hopes started going down. and with the recent GT videos I simply decided that I'm probably not going to like this game as much as I first thought. I accept defeat and I admit I was wrong. that doesn't mean I admit people who judged it right away was right in doing so.

at this point I can definitely understand people having seen and heard all they need to pass judgement. but there still is a huge difference between only looking at videos/reading information and actually playing the game yourself. who knows, there might be parts of the game you will absolutely love that you had no idea was even there. not very likely with this game. but personally I will still have to play it myself to give final verdict.

I agree with you, but it also doesn't look all that compelling to play anymore and even give it that chance. I mean it doesn't exist in a vacuum and there are other things to do rather than drop 60$ on anything on the off chance it doesn't suck as much as you thought it would. There's not enough reason really to give it a final verdict.

Hell I never played the Witcher, but it's refered to enough might be a good pick-up now. Or given my support of Bioware I might pick up Jade Empire, which I skipped cause I wasn't a big fan of fighting games either, not my thing, but neither are shooters and I liked Mass Effect.

It seems more logical to pin my entertainment needs on a winner rather than an expected loser. I mean it's largely an individual thing and moot in general, I just think the general response of 'Give it a Chance' are largely pointless and false. I mean 'Why?' is a good response in return, you don't think I have anything else I could possibly do instead?

He's not your buddy, guy.

Anyways, I agree with you. There's nothing wrong with judging something based on things that are supposed to represent it, though final judgment should be reserved until after hands-on experience.

I've been told all of those reasons (and more) for why I can't say anything negative about Fallout 3.

Writing down things I've heard and read are "a few steps too far."

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

EDIT:

One second thought, that should read "Writing down things I've heard and read from numerous Fallout 3 devotees are 'a few steps too far.'"

Sorry.
