Fallout 3 Review: Official Xbox Magazine

You see into the future don't you?
In a sense, yes. In the future, the Earth will continue to orbit around the sun, fire will burn you if you touch it, two plus two will equal four and Bethesda devotees will replace the "3" with a "4" in all of their arguments when Fallout 4 is announced.

THEY ARE NOT GHOULS. They're zombies. Which is not what FO1/2 ghouls were at all.

Fallout and Fallout 2 also had their share of mindless ghouls.

I should really watch what I say. I'm definitely not arguing about the mindless ghoul thing. Yes, there were mindless ghouls in FO1/2. Problem? Non-existent. The issue is how they look.

Not what the game calls them. Only what they look like. Oh, and how fast they move too.

I still think that black on green is a very bad choice. And that making the world map look like it's on a low-res monitor is a *very* bad choice. It'll still probably look terrible, just not as horrendously bad, on a bigger monitor. Though I may be speaking too soon- my monitor has a hard time showing decent detail on old XBrick games.
One of PCPowerPlay's complaints in their very positive review (9/10) was that the map was unclear.

The world map can be hard to decipher at times and takes a little more effort than necessary to figure out where you are, where you want to go and how you might want to get there.
Also listed as one of the problems at the end as "Map isn't too clear."

I'll give you that it had instantly hostile ghouls but I don't remember any mindless ones. Even if they were mindless at least they used weapons instead of being super fast and attacking like zombies (clawing, exaggerated motions).

There were mindless/crazy ghouls in random encounters that didn't use any weapons.
Really? Okay, fair enough. That said I think it's fair to say that they were in the minority, yes? Most (all?) hostile Ghouls were smart and sane enough to either use weapons and/or speak and the unarmed zombie-esc ones were clearly in the minority. What gets me about Fallout 3 is their explanation for Feral Ghouls (which breaches canon by including all Glowing Ones), the fact that they are all unarmed, and the fact that, from what I've seen and read, there aren't any armed hostile Ghouls, thus the zombie-esc Feral Ghouls have become the majority of what Ghouls are rather than the minority.

In Fallout, there were mindless ghouls which were hostile, but they weren't fast. They shuffled around and grunted and weren't really actively hostile.

In Fallout 2, there were hostile 'crazy' ghouls which ran a little bit, but they weren't mindless or 'feral'. All of them talked and some of them used weapons.

Now Bethesda seems to have found the perfect way to strip out anything interesting or distinguishing about them and just turn them into another kind of mindless AND immediately hostile monster (fast zombies with radiation magic). :yuck:

Yep, doing what they do best.

What, not even normal talking glowing ones?

Ghouls who are actually friendly but have the unfortunate luck of being radioactive?

I have played it - BAD

A friend of a friend got his hands on a pre release copy for the Xbox. ( Naughty boy, etc... )
While I was visiting he stuck the game on and let me play as he knew I was going to buy. Not now. Its terrible. The third person mode does not work at all. The whole thing seems full of bugs and glitches.
It feels years out of date and not that good anyway.

I have been miserable ever since. At least I won't waste my money on it.

What's this about radiation magic?

Glowing Ones can throw radioactive hadoukens at you. Haven't seen videos of it, but it's been known for a while. Just another example of Beth taking a dump on setting and consistency to shoehorn fantasy cliches (ogre-magi, anyone?), I guess.

You're not going to see a demo.

Ever.

I know, and that sucks the most.

I am not a pirate, I have always bought my games honestly, believing that to be the honest thing to do.

But what is the point anymore?

I feel that if someone is repeatedly giving me electrical shocks to see how much I can take of this all.
Well don't be surprised that I one day turn around and squeeze the life out of the SOB.

If I had a console, I might rent it, but I'm being given a copy of it, so I won't complain about it.

Unfortunately, demos are a double edged sword. It will either drive your customers away, if they find out your game is not what you want, or bring 'em in because it's manna from heaven.

Easier just to take the money, and let the customers get shafted.
