Fallout 3 reviews round-up #39

Posting these reviews is rather pointless, since we can already clearly see the trend, and i could probably roughly describe what the next batch of reviews will claim.

I have a feeling the character models and animations are for the most part the fault of the game engine rather than the artists. I say this because I, uh, "know someone" whose 3D character modeling reel was more impressive than anything seen in the Bethesda games (Fallout 3 included) and he was kind of blown off when he applied for a job there. Said someone is currently in LA working for a major 3D/SFX company doing stuff for feature films and the like.

Could be entirely wrong, but this has made me wonder.

And I swear I am not that someone.

Bad modeling is the artist's fault, not the engine. The engine may require lower poly count models, but there's no excuse for bad proportions and design. My models, which look worlds apart from those pics posted earlier are only 12K faces, which is pretty much a standard count these days. Even at 8K, they would look the same for the most part, only a little rougher.

The fact that Beth blew your friend off has nothing to do with his talent. No doubt he is a better modeler than anyone they have there currently (which isn't saying much, but I'm sure he is quite impressive).

I said that like 3 round-ups ago. Seems nobody really cares.

That Fallout 3 is the best Fallout game ever, of course.

Especially because it's turnbased.

And isometric, it would suck if it wasn't isometric

We can't forget the compelling main storyline, as well as superb dialogue.

Oh yes, how can we ever forget such endearing characters like Dad/James, John Henry Eden, or the sheriff of Megaton.
