The BethBlog spake and said Fallout 3 has been nominated for eight Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences awards, which are these:
  • Outstanding Achievement in Gameplay Engineering
  • Outstanding Achievement in Original Story
  • Role-Playing Game of the Year
  • Computer Game of the Year
  • Outstanding Achievement in Game Design
  • Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction
  • Console Game of the Year
  • Overall Game of the Year
These Interactive Achievement Awards are distributed roughly a month from now on the D.I.C.E. Summit among developers who have paid to be eligible for them.

Outstanding Achievement in Original Story, eh?

I wonder if Age of Decadence has budgeted for this fee already.

It makes no sense.
How could any SANE person give fallout 3 "outstanding gaming engineering / original story award ?
JC, seems that standards are really low these days, when a game like fallout 3 is a "great" a-rpg or a shooter/rpg hybrid thingy.

JC Denton, where are thee ?

I... I just don't know what to say.

I have no words to describe the feeling that goes through me after reading this.

When did this happen, when did the majority of game journalists grow so retarded that their collective IQ is probably not high enough to open a pickle jar.

Original story? ORIGINAL STORY?! WHO THE HELL GOT IT IN HIS ROTTEN BRAIN TO NOMINATE FALLOUT 3 FOR THAT?

Maybe it was original in that it managed to balls up a standard by the book cliched plot line so badly, which is quite hard to do.

:D

If only Vince would crawl out from under that bushel basket he's been hiding his shining parts , and take his message straight to the people-s!

Vince teh Un-shied spoke-th, " Folks I need seed money to prime the media pumps."

And the folk-s did come forth and showered teh "Un-shied" in glorious geld!

Since we now walk in the valley of the shadows of the last days of the eternal crowning glory of "modern video gaming canon", (amen), let us not spare the loaves and fishes ... when AOD pass-eth the hat.

If there be a level playing field, then perhaps there could be a transcendence of niche and a 'miracle' of market share.

That is just sad... either there weren't any good games this past year. Which there really weren't... or it's more Fallout 3 fever. Honestly, the game wasn't very good... the texture res was crap, the story was horrible, and the game was glitchy as hell.

Sadly they'll probably win a few of these and feed their hideous egos even further. Thanks a lot, Caen, you douche!

The thing is just. That one HAS to get all those awards ... as stupid as it sounds. But look at the competitions. Fallout 3 definetly was one of those games in 2008 with the bigest marketing and most "money" pushed in the development. I mean how would it look like if they all start to come out and say, sorry guys ... we could not decide who to give those awards as they all are crap (kinda unprofessional as well).

considering the really really weak time we have now with games, its no surprise it got all this Gotys, "writting" awards and such. I mean hands down, as a "RPG" fallout 3 was really the highlight of 2008, though that doesnt really say anything about Fallout 3s quality but about the gaming buisness in general ...

Letz all hope the next few years will see better games, particularly RPGs.

Next up: Fallout 3 wins Nobel Prize for curing cancer.

I've never seen a game so grossly heralded and overrated before, that's some serious media black dollars.

Petition to also nominate FO3 for the "One Outstanding Achievement to Bind Them All"

It's not that big shock. You should've been already prepared for this after nomination to Writer's Guild Award.

It's a shame StarCraft II didn't come out last year...because it would have made F3 look like a punk bitch. I'm seriously giving up on RPGs from now on, I think I'll go back to TBS and RTS, I never did like FPS.
Like OMG, LOL...ok enough.

I think F3 was an ok game, but I personally wouldn't have made it game of the year (above all others). I respect companies such as Blizzard and Microsoft Studios who rarely send out a game before it's 100%. Blizzards games mostly get constant patches not due to faulty gaming but because of the online cheats, tricks, and a few bugs.

I raise a glass to a fair jury that will "vote" for all those awards

Wikipedia says "Its membership consists of industry professionals, and only professional members who meet a set of minimum criteria are able to vote", so yeah, only professional professionals are involved.
