There are some exemples indeed of games with good critics that didn't sell well partly because of fan bashing, like Kohan 2 (but it had to do with it being out at the same time than W40K

He is not completely wrong, though. Some games have sold regurlarly over the years, even when they were not instant hit (it was the case for Kohan 1 and Total Annihilation, but maybe it is a RTS thing...).
I may make a difference on the number of units sold, but as they are cheaper, it probably makes less difference on the total income.
Anyway, if they don't make the game 7+, it will mechanically seriously shrink the consummer base, so there is zero chance its sales could compare with oblivion.
