Fallout 3, who is this for?

Uh-huh. Do you think all major review sites are equal in hits? No? Then how does it make sense to take an average based on every review site being equal? Don't fall for metacritics averages for representing numbers, please.
No, however, not all majore review sites had given it good marks (3/5 on gamespy, 3/10 on eurogamer...)

There are some exemples indeed of games with good critics that didn't sell well partly because of fan bashing, like Kohan 2 (but it had to do with it being out at the same time than W40K:Dawn of War too...)

The PS3 sales might make a difference, but if you actually think the amount of sales of a game one year after release make any significant impact on its total sales, you really don't know much about economics.

He is not completely wrong, though. Some games have sold regurlarly over the years, even when they were not instant hit (it was the case for Kohan 1 and Total Annihilation, but maybe it is a RTS thing...).
I may make a difference on the number of units sold, but as they are cheaper, it probably makes less difference on the total income.

Anyway, if they don't make the game 7+, it will mechanically seriously shrink the consummer base, so there is zero chance its sales could compare with oblivion.

Not to go off topic but.....

BrotherNone I just noticed your title under you name

El-ahrairah

The original rabbit in watership down that gave Prince Rainbow and Lord Frith such a hard time :)

Still one of my favorite books of all time lol

Does anyone know or have an idea how FINO3 will be rated? If it's AO it won't be sold on a PS3. Both Sony and Nintendo have rules against AO game on their consoles. If it's M it won't be an issue. Seems with all the enhanced gore it might get an AO.

Can't see it being any more violent than most generic shooters already available. Manhunt got pwned more for it's references to real life crimes etc, afaik.

Dare say some Americans could object to the fact the game blatently promotes the use of nuclear weapons in Washington DC :P

What? It's not going to be rated AO, this shit is tiddlywinks compared to the kind of stuff you see in GTA. The only reason San Andreas was rerated was because of Hot Coffee, and that was a fucking joke, media was just looking for a scapegoat. You couldn't even access the shit on the PS2 but it was rerated anyway.

What was the shit about Sony and Nintendo not allowing AO? Sony is still allowing GTA:SA to be sold and played on their consoles, they don't give a damn as long as it $ell$.

GTA:SA and Manhunt 2 are the only AO rated games on console ever. EVER. Both on Playstation, and Manhunt 2's on the Wii. They're the only AO games on consoles period, ever.

Everything else has been porno games on PC- with the notable exception of the Indigo Prophecy director's cut.

America don't care that much 'bout violence, just sex.

And anyway, a big problem is that WalMart and the like won't stock AO games, so there's no fucking way Zenimax would let Beth3 be anything more than M.

So it's a stupid concern. If Soldier of Fortune 2 got an M rating, there's no way Beth3 won't. The level of gore/violence isn't even in the same solar system.

Can't see it being any more violent than most generic shooters already available. Manhunt got pwned more for it's references to real life crimes etc, afaik.
Right. And now the media's jumpin' all over Manhunt 2 because it's a convenient scapegoat.

Regardless of the comparison to past games, the bar's been raised. F3 ain't gonna jump over it.

Give me a break. Bethesda puts in a ton of Fallout stuff and now it's too much for the fans. OMG THE BUILDINGS LOOK DIFERENT THIS IS NOT FALLOUT!!!! As far as I am concerned Fallout, in the game itself, had many different kinds of buildings and any buildings Bethesda has shown don't stick out.

Bethesda nailed the trailer and die-hards have to complain about the stupidest things. If Black Isle had made that exact same trailer or concept art everyone would love it and not complain about everything.

Daxill, I agree with you. Why this constant insatisfaction when there is nothing yet to be insatisfied with? I couldn't stand being to Bethesdas' place. Some fans just don't know what they want... Too fallouty: no substance, less fallouty: omg oblivion with guns!!!

This kind of reaction over there is normal whenever anything regarding Bethesda is discussed. I've been trying to fight the good fight over there for years and gave my input but it's a losing battle. Eventually, you know scores of people will land there saying how Fallout 3 is better than the originals.

Heh. I tried battling the fanboys there too. Gave up. It's futile really.

Role-Player, while you may disagree with it, Gamespot's forums have actually always been kidnapped by traditional Fallout fans. While other Gamespot users are taking over now (and have been for some time), it's still one of the places with more Bethesda bashing than most other places on the internetz.

Whether or not you have anything to do with that, I dunno.

He's talking about GameFAQ's, not Gamespot. By the way there are many Fallout fans on GameFAQ, and many are of them are good people.

You're both kind of right since I have been at the GameFAQs forums way before the merger with Gamespot and with multiple accounts until I settled for my current one. So, the 'struggle' began at GameFAQs and inevitably spilled into Gamespot after both sites merged.

I usually don't use my Gamespot account in the forums because I have a different username there (I couldn't register GoblinKing so I had to come up with something silly, like Vorpal_Egg) and I don't want to be accused of trying to simulate two different people in a discussion.

I could mention that in my sig but I'm old fashioned that way :P

:D All these forums are so depressing. All these people who insult the NMA fanbase always completely miss the point...Dammit. I know I'm stating the obvious, but damn.

Also,

Anyway, if they don't make the game 7+, it will mechanically seriously shrink the consummer base, so there is zero chance its sales could compare with oblivion.

Actually (in America, at least), Oblivion was re-rated M.

Duh. Let them burn in mushroom for that.

It will be interesting to see some sales figures on Shadowrun. I liked what limited experience I've had with the PnP Shadowrun, and I played the old computergame a lot (have it for SNES now). quote]

You got a Swedish version? Cause I remember that Shadowrun was like the only game that got translated into swedish, man I loved that game.

Note: I know this is kinda off topic but this whole thread has gone off topic

Fallout 3 looks pretty good to me so far. I like the way the environments look in what I've seen. I am excited to play it. I am glad to see an exploration of something beyond the Madmax framework. I also don't think anyone knows enough about it to trash it completely, at least not yet.

This excerpt was taken from G.I. Issue 171 (July) Pg. 60 The photo with the insert. States:
Fallout 3 has a more defined narrative structure than many previous Bethesda games. You'll play your character as he or she progresses from level one to a cap of 20, and after dozens of hours of play you will reach a definitive end to the story. That end, however, may be any one of many - nine to twelve unique endings are planned, based on your actions throughout the
game.

Just a couple things.....

Has anyone seen any screens of a Female character model?
I'm wondering, how many skins we'll have to choose from. I think a black vault dweller would be interesting. It also states above that the cap level is at 20. 20 doesn't sound high, but..I'm thinking we'll level very slowly. As low as 9 as high as 12 ends seems nice, least they did something right.

I was bored when I wrote this and I like these forums so I left my mark : )

I think level 20 is an OK level cap. The best game I have played was Baldur's Gate 1. Originally, it only had level cap of 6 or 7, I think. Then its expansion raised it to maybe level 8 or 9. It was not the level cap that got me hooked in BG1, it was the story, the gameplay and the depth of the plot.

Fallout 3 won't be for the those who likes to powerlevel...
