Fallout 4 Bible: Bethesda will never make a good Fallout game

What doesn't make sense about Megaton's location? That is a real thinker Battlecross.

I'm asking what is meant by that specifically, you could answer instead of being annoying and contributing nothing. Just a suggestion.

It's a town built out of scrap, around a nuclear bomb, scrap which the people apparently dragged from a few kilometers away. All the while there are perfectly livable buildings a few minutes walking distance.

[I was going to put a personal insult here, but decided against it. Feel free to fill in the blank]

Most of that is explained considering the proximity to the Vault and several kilometers? Is that actually said? I always remember it as "nearby".

Anything more substantial for Megation?

Didn't they state ingame that they didn't want to live in the houses since raiders kept attacking them and they needed a place that, unlike the houses, would give them an advantage or something?

Edit: They stated that they needed a place to be safe from raiders and keep dust storms out. I presume the houses couldn't provide those. That and they needed safety from Super Mutants which are worse than raiders I also presume the houses wouldn't do the job.

So they built their town in a hole in the ground, where it's hard to take care of sewage, around a live atomic bomb by dragging plane parts from an airport kilometers away? Makes perfect sense. They could've at least built the walls around an already existing town, but nope, we must have an atomic bomb, because every town must have an attraction! It's a theme park after all!

I presume it's because of the dust storms that they didn't use Springvale for the town. Also it depends on whether or not the raiders were already at the school or not I suppose.

It's explained that they needed the help of the Children of the Atom so that dictated why it was there and they couldn't get rid of it.

Which is the silliest excuse since there are buildings just a few minutes away, they don't need to haul crashed planes anywhere, they don't need to live with a bunch of morons worshiping a nuke. All they need to do is just kill a bunch of deranged degenerates that occupy the town and the mall. You know what would be clever? If Megaton was built around a missile silo with an 'altar' type area below, so you can have a logical explanation for people being there, and a relatively reasonable explanation for a nuke worshiping cult. But bethesda can't do clever, they need to do kewl, and what's more kewl in a post apocalyptic scenario than a town built out of scrap?
The answer is a giant robot, but Beth has you covered there too.

Isn't that just from Planet of the Apes or something?

Everything about Fallout 3 was fucking stupid. I'll never understand why people still try and defend that shit.

Meh, there are aspects of FO3/NV that I liked, and, granted, I did like NV more then FO3. However, I hated the lack of agency in pretty much any of Bethesda games Oblivion forwards, and while the theme park analogy is pretty nuanced to the reality, FO3 fails at what I consider a FO sequel because of it, it CAN still be fun to play, however. It doesn't mean that it is "a shit game", it means that it is a different experience than a RPG, it is an open world theme shooter, which is an entirely different thing. As for Megaton, logistically, it has issues, people are pretty fucking amazing at MAKING things work, and, indeed, people nowadays live in some of the silliest locations, for what I would consider the silliest reasons, but there we are. What we really need is someone to create a cRPG, but is there even a large enough market for one? How much money did Arx Fatalis, FO1/FO2, or Planescape Torment actually make?

Enough to warrant shelling out the coin to buy the IP. Not mention the multi-million dollar kickstarters that have proved successful for both Wasteland 2 and Torment.

Hmmm. So, in that case, why are there no new true cRPG's out on the market? I am aware of inXile's Wasteland 2, but that title has somehow failled to pull me in, and 'force' me to come back. And, even after 17 years, the FO1/FO2 still suck me in to the point that I just started a new game using the Restoration pack and Fixt, and I completed Fixt, and CANT wait to get home to jump into FO2.

I don't know, haven't watched Planet of the Apes.

Bethesda is not in the business of making good games, they are in the business of making good selling games; there is a big distinction there. You don't need a good game, to have a good selling game... In fact... it can even hamstring the sales if the game isn't simplistic enough.

Wasteland 2 is still a successful true CRPG, there's also Pillars of Eternity and Divinity OS.

It's sad, but I have to agree that Pillars of Eternity and Wasteland 2 are not better than the old classics. I hope the new Torment prove me wrong. CRPG died once before, and it needs more practice to bring it back.

Have you tried Divinity: OS? In my opinion it is a better CRPG than PoE. Especially if you get a chance to play coop.

They're not bad, and in my opinion they equal the old CRPGs. Remember, don't actually start going real nostalgia where no modern CRPG with good writing and all can be as good as the old games. That's not what we are here, right?
