Fallout 76 – Invaders from Beyond: Aliens are back on March 1

We always need new blood who can hold the banner high. So feel free to keep our spirit alive by ranting against Bethesda's stupidities!

But as Toronto said this has been an ongoing show since Bethesda bought the franchise so nothing new will be said, probably.

Considering that the MMO nature of 76 makes it seem inherently less serious than the main titles, I don’t really have a problem with them doing an alien invasion dlc. Seems like a fun idea that meshes well with their “wacky 1950s sci fi” theme they’ve got going on. Next they should do a Godzilla dlc.

At this point, nothing surprises me when it comes to Fallout franchise. Mothershit Zeta still exists after all.

Honestly, they could announce second great war to restart the franchise again and I wouldn't care.

Bugthesda is still bugthesda, doesn't matter who owns them.

That second great war idea sounds like a good story arc that would carry out over three games and introduce major new factions like the Chinese, Canadian, and Mexican remnants but they can't think that far in advance.

Another Great War would be very Canticle for Leibowitz but I think it should be like 500+ years after the bombs. Enough time for humanity to forget.

That is why I say if they did it they would need three games to advance the plot slowly to that direction.

I'm not fond of the idea. At least not another global war. However if there is another great war they should have tribals fight it with sticks and stones as in this quote:

“I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” – Albert Einstein.

Not a global war but pretty much the entire north american region. Anyway it doesn't matter ALIENS ARE INVADING FALLOUT LIKE WE ALWAYS DREAMED.

But aliens were always present in the franchise, as early as Fallout 1 !!

I can hear you say "But Alphons it's just a special encounter!"

Well, obviously I never played those shitty old games, but I read a Reddit post with over 4k upvotes that aliens originally had a major role in the game, but had to be cut due to ENGINE LIMITATIONS. Checkmate.

Taking a gag/easteregg and turning it into canon - Dr.Who, Terminator and Star Trek next as canon? Original Fallouts were very grounded and even the most weird things were explained in decent amount of detail. 76 is obviously Bethesdas amusement-park.

Hopefully Elvis comes back with aliens.
And half of the world population will give a shit as if they were huge fans in the first place, despite being centuries apart.
I am trying to imagine the same thing with Mozart, Verdi or Bach.

I like the implication that West Virginia is the Florida of the Fallout Universe. Like, strange shit just happens there and eventually people started to roll with it. Wild Wasteland is on by default.
"Oh shit, aliens are invading Appalachia again""
"But you're coming to work tomorrow, right?"
"I would, but some asshat released a psionic plague and now I am stuck in bed with a fever and remembering all my cringe memories. I can barely hold this conversation. Oh, there is another memory. Argh, it was so cringy when I tried to come at that girl two years agoooo..."
"But you're coming to work tomorrow, riiight?"

Meanwhile, nobody in the more "serious" parts of the Fallout universe believes half the shit they hear coming from there and think the locals are just taking the piss. Non-locals coming back always come back with some insane story like "Oh yeah I was chased by commie ghouls into a cave where I found a secret army of molemen trying to take over the surface world. But the weird part was when I chanced into the eldritch abomination lying in a barred cave tunnel".

Is 76 actually fun to play? Like ignoring the fact that Bethesda fallout has always been questionable story wise is it worth 10$ on a steam sale?

I genuinely hate how Fallout 3, 4, 76 have made it official that there are aliens in the setting.
While it fits perhaps the 50s movies Fallout takes inspiration from, I always felt that it should have stuck to the human world and horror and weirdness created by of human science gone out of control and the impact it has on nature.

The same goes for actually putting in the supernatural and paranormal.
I could live with cryptids actually being the result of genetic engineering done by corporations in an attempt to create bioweapons.

Using the Cthulhu mythos as a source of inspiration is also not a problem, the idea of there being horrors in the Fallout world that are beyond human understanding, but in the end keep the cause something human made that got out of control and developed in unforeseen ways and not pre-human civilizations or beings from other dimensions.
