Problems I encountered:
Only error in dialog options for ghoul in Necropolis
Error floats for bountyhunters in Boneyard.
Screenshots and saves here:
http://zcnet.22web.org/fo1/ (you must paste the url in your browser, otherwise you'd get redirected to commercials (byethost policy for referred requests)
Any plans to fix these? Is the error-suffering ghoul important for the plot (I do not remember and do not wish to reinstall and repartch with teamX 1.3.5 bugfix).
One of maps in Necropolis (overground 3rd or fourth to the north) has improperly set scroll blocks - I can scroll outside map edge - into "blackness".
SIDENOTE: In addition - it seems that both luck double-increase bug in boneyard and double (stupid and normal) Intelligence up at brotherhood are fixed - which affects hero-build strategy if you plan to get LK 10 and IN 10.
Wow I think I somehow completely missed the post you're quoting. Weird, and sorry about that. Thanks for the reminder :D

And yes, absolutely. Pretty much all (or at least all the major) changes for alpha 5 are:
- Fixing crashes / hangs
- Fixing any "Error" dialogs

The dialogs is because I was doing 'clean-up' on the scripts and clearing out some duplicates and cross-references, and ended up fucking them up in the process. Go figure.

And no, the error dialog characters are all, as far as I know, not at all important to the plot, just "citizens" if that makes sense (Ghoul Manager, generic ghouls, Chris Avellone, some generic punks, etc)

I didn't know about the scroll-edges, thank you for that. I don't know if I broke that or is an issue from f1_res but I'll fix it.

The last thing, well yeah, those were exploits and are now fixed :P As an aside, I plan on making an optional add-on that allows another +1 to stats from Lori in the BoS, but they will cost way more (something like 5x-10x as much) and take longer (I don't know maybe 2x-3x as long). This, if enabled by the player, will allow more flexibility in late-game and something useful for sticking around after beating the game -- as well as of course making over-looting useful, because you can focus on using the tens- or hundreds of thousands of caps to get your stats boosted. In the long term I'd like to add more stuff like this. Now that we have the endgame mod incorporated into FIXT (which is another buggy thing to be fixed in alpha 5, btw) I'd like to add stuff that makes the late game more fun to play. Perhaps even, after other things are finished, adding some different dialog for NPCs after beating the game, like they did in Fallout 2. This will of course be optional and can be disabled.

I've finally got around to buying fallout 1,2 and tactics through steam. I'm having trouble working out how I install this,can anyone help?
I've downloaded the 4.1 patch, what now? I've heard this will make the game a more complete experience so I'd very much like to get it working.

First you need to run the installer (alpha 4) and install it into the Fallout 1 folder -- this will be likely under Program Files/steam/steamapps/common/Fallout (I think). Anyway if it's not there the path will be similar. You'll find it. :mrgreen:

From there, extract alpha 4.1 on top of the same folder, clicking YES when it asks to overwrite a bunch of files. You will know if the patch is "installed" correctly because the main menu will show v4.1 in the bottom right corner.

Pretty close to being done with the next version. Most of the major bugs ('error' in dialog, crashes, etc) have been fixed... Right now I'm working on the last of some mismatched scripts causing the error dialog, then i'll be sorting out the endgame mod crash, and I think that's about it.

Should receiving radiation (as through combat) use a verb or adverb?

ex.
{300}{}{You receive a small dose of radiation!}
{302}{}{You receive a large dose of radiation!}
vs.
{303}{}{You have been irradiated!}
{304}{}{You have been strongly irradiated!}
{305}{}{You have been mildly irradiated!}

BTW sorry, I accidentally reported Your post, I forgot that on this forum "!" next to "Quote" wasn't for selective quoting. :P

It was because of all the cursing :( I'm sorry I have an illness :(

I'm making pretty good progress, as far as I know all the reported crashes and error dialogs are fixed except for the endgame dialog (after talking to Overseer).

I prefer the latter, but in either case, I think it's more important that it's consistent with whatever messages are displayed when the character is poisoned. Just for consistency.

Thanks for the awesome work, installed FIXT and got everything working under 64bit Windows 7.

I started new game and have been playing for about 5 hours. Now I've encountered quite a big problem, my game crashes every time I exit Necropolis. I can get to the world map and start travelling but after few hours of walking my screen goes black and I get this error.

I've experienced a few (same) crashes on world map earlier but they've happened randomly. Now it happens every time I start travelling from Necropolis.

[spoiler:7bfaa23723]I fixed the water pump and got the Water Chip before leaving. I did not kill the mutants but I did free the Ghoul prisoner. [/spoiler:7bfaa23723]
Thanks!

EDIT: I started a new save and travelled all around world map without crashes. :? Corrupted save game?

[spoiler:7bfaa23723]EDIT2:
I tried some stuff and it seems to crash every time after 2 in-game days go by.

Something that came to mind, not sure if this helps or not:
Before entering Necropolis I sent water caravans to Vault, 208 days left until the water runs out
No companion
Radiated because of Ghouls / Glowing Ones
Addicted / Alcoholic

Quick question are you using v4.1? (it would say in your main menu at the bottom right corner)

EDIT: If you are indeed running 4.1 I have no idea why that crash is happening :( Not cool. Thank you for all the details and the save though, that's very helpful. I'll look into it.

Yes, I have v4.1.

I'll probably just start a new game, first time playing Fallout 1 in 10 years or so. :)
My hunch is that alcohol addiction is breaking it somehow. Is it possible to test that same character from before they got the alcohol Addict tag, and see if the crash still happens?

It makes me sad when people have to start over because of a crash/glitch/whatever, but I personally try to take it in stride -- try to treat it as a good excuse for trying a different playing style or different starting stats :D Or to fine-tune the build you were playing in the crashed game.

Sadly not, I was too confident and saved only on one slot. Even after I had tons of save game problems with Fallout 2 saves, bugged exit grids etc.. Never learnt I guess.

That addiction happened after I got in Necropolis. Damn, it was an accident, tried to drop booze but drank it instead.. :lol:

Starting over isn't really an issue, now I can choose something else instead of Bruiser perk! Losing AP sucks more than I remember.

speaking about dropping stuff, how do you drop items again on the ground in fo1, i tried to drop an explosive in the scorpion cave to make it collapse and ended up blowing it up while still equipped, with cave collapsing and taking 40 damage but somehow still being in one piece rofl, must have been shoddy dynamite :mrgreen:

You have two options... In my mod I made it so if you set the timer and put it in your active hand, you'll automatically drop it.

Otherwise, right click on it in inventory and there's a drop icon.

Ah Thank you kind sir, I was completely lost. Sorry if you've had to explain again.
No problem at all, you're welcome. 8-)

Sometimes I work on this mod instead of doing my math homework. Does that make me a bad person? :mrgreen:

Encountered 2 other bugs in Necropolis, you might be aware of these already but decided to post just in case.

[spoiler:2cd4c7b707]
After I killed mutants at the Watershed, Set refuses to speak to me. I tried every hour during the day with no luck. He just repeats the phrase "Still in my shadow? ..."

I had forgotten about that specific issue with Set, thank you

The lame thing about me breaking the Hotel Manager by accident is that his dialog was always lame and brief anyway. I will be building him dialog in the future.

His dialog as shipped is essentially "Don't touch my stuff kthx lol combat kthxlol."
