Fallout 1 mod Fallout Fixt - next release will be some time in Jan 2020

New Crash???

-Umm, hey guys, im not sure if any of you have already had this. but im experiencing a crash involving the screen size. I usually play it in 1024x768, but i started messing with the resolutions, and when i did, i eventually put in 1000x744, and now the game will not open. I guess its incompatible or something but is there any way i can go into the files and change the resolution?

-also im running the newest FIXT, im having no issues other than the mentioned and now i get 500xp and congrats on saving shady sands everytime i kill a radscorpion, and i already completed the quest. (I think it was triggered by me taking the armor and gun from the elder after saving tandi.)

What valcik said.

And lol, infinite xp exploit. Enjoy it while it lasts ;) Seriously thank you though, I wasn't aware of that bug.

For those of you having a black screen on the loading screen and/or the slideshow at the end, please play around with changing these settings in f1_res.ini and let me know if it changes anything:

Code:
;##################################################################################################################
[STATIC_SCREENS]

; if set to 0 - background image will display at its original size.
; if set to 1 - background image will stretch to fit the screen while maintaining its aspect ratio.
; if set to 2 - background image will stretch to fill the screen.
DEATH_SCRN_SIZE=1
END_SLIDE_SIZE=1
HELP_SCRN_SIZE=1
SPLASH_SCRN_SIZE=1

I plan on having a GUI-based "starter" for FIXT. I don't know if this will make it into Alpha 5, but I'm learning C# for my job and soon I'll probably learn WPF and re-learn C++ as well, so it will be good practice and learning to make a small app.

This app will allow changes to the ddraw and f1_res and fallout ini files, as well as a few other things. That way you can run that app, click a couple things (or simply hit play if you don't need to change anything) and start playing, instead of digging through text files!

Some day I'll learn Assembly and we'll get ourselves a true ddraw/sfall plugin as with Fallout 2 (allowing for example, Take All button and whatnot) but that is far off.

Problems I encountered:
Only error in dialog options for ghoul in Necropolis
Error floats for bountyhunters in Boneyard.

-It was probably already reported by an other user, but you can't push your companions away (as in F2) if they stop you in front of a door/passage.
But you have dialog option for each of them "Step aside, please" or something like this. It might be annoying to be forced to enter dialog to push a companion aside, but it worked for me in F.FIXT

By the way - in Junktown there's a quest with the boxer and his girlfriend (i.e. - talk him out of boxing, since his girlfriend is afraid he might get hurt). Somehow after leaving Junktown without fulfilling the quest I had no dialog option in boxer's dialogs to complete the quest when I returned.

Yeah, I had to add a (admittedly crappy) hack for the "push" command in dialog, because I'm not a good enough programmer to add an actual command like that to the code (yet). This is somewhere in the bigass list of added stuff (see OP in Fallout FIXT main thread).

And yeah, a bunch of the quests in Junktown are fucked. Sigh. It's better with the changes from TeamX, but Junktown quests have always had glitches and errors. Thanks for letting me know.

hey there, i recently bought fallout collection and installed fixt.

it doesnt seem to work, says there is no disc inserted even though there clearly is.. does fixt only work for the separate title or am i just being a noob?

note-worthy is that there was only one disc in what i bought, i bought it from a charity shop, should it have more discs? cos fallout runs fine off it but tactics asks for a disc.

Quick search resulted with:

You likely will need to crack Fallout Tactics. For whatever reason, in Vista, the game does not recognize the CD as being a game CD. Thankfully, gamecopyworld.com is still a bountiful resource for safe No-CD cracks.

So I guess the Tactics disc may have issues with newer Windows versions?

You may need to manually install Fallout as well.

Could you provide a bit more info? If you are referring to installing Fallout 1, at what point exactly do you get a message that there's no disc? Are you talking about once already installed, when you are trying to run the game itself?

I would suggest trying:
-- Put the falloutw.exe in Compat Mode for Windows 98 and Run As Admin http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html
-- Run falloutw.exe directly (instead of through any of my .bat files) this won't break anything.
-- See if you have a fallout.cfg file in your Fallout/FIXT folder. If so, make sure the directories in there are valid. For example you should see something like:

Code:
[system]
critter_dat=C:\Games\Fallout\critter.dat
critter_patches=C:\Games\Fallout\data
master_dat=C:\Games\Fallout\master.dat
master_patches=C:\Games\Fallout\data
If lines like that don't exist, add them, obviously making the directories match whatever directory you have FIXT installed to.

Update:

I manually installed fallout1 thanks to this topics instructions:

http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1593

thanks to your suggestion and i manually patched and FIXT now works fine :D

as for the noCD crack for fallout tactics, i get this message when i try to crack it:

PatchFX v1.30
=============
opening BOS.exe...OK!
performing crc-check ................. failed!

PATCH WAS NOT APPLIED!

do you know what the problem is?

thankyou for the help guys.. its great to see people supporting this game when its so old :)

What version is your "Tactics" ?
If is not v1.27,maybe there is a your problem.
A one more thing : this is wrong place for "Tactics".

Starting your own thread for the Fallout Tactics question/issue is a really good idea, because then it'll be around if someone has the same question later on.

I hope this is not pointing to me,because I say the same thing "here is wrong place for that".
Hey I respect this thread.

Good work, but if you will be developing this in C#, then you are forcing user having installed .Net libraries. It would be much better have this utillity developed in native languages like C/C++ where every library can be statically linked to one binary file. Or make it platform independed for example in Java.

I believe that there are still plenty of users who don't use .Net, for example linux/mac/bsd users runnig win app via wine.

Keep up a good work. :clap:

lol no I was agreeing with you at NotMarki. Don't worry you're good :mrgreen: And that being said, I don't get mad at anyone (NotMarki for example) for "posting in the wrong place", we all do it at least once. shrug.

Oh damns, I didn't think of that. Yeah the only reason I'm using C# is because I'm learning that language currently so I was/am using it as practice since I hate making useless training apps that have no real purpose other than learning. So does .NET stuff not run at all in WINE?

EDIT: On the plus side I could use a refresher on C++ anyway, so looks like I'll be getting practice in two languages :D

EDIT2: I am wondering if http://mono-project.com/Main_Page would be useful in this case but I can't find any info on if the end user (you guys) would need the Mono thing installed on your machine.
