Fallout 1 mod Fallout Fixt - next release will be some time in Jan 2020

So lately I've been thinking it might be fun to do a playthrough or Let's Play of Fallout FIXT... would anyone watch those if I posted them on YouTube? It would of course showcase all of the additions, fixes changes and other interesting things that different in FIXT from other versions of the game.

I think I'd enjoy doing it, and I'll probably do it anyway, but it would be cool to get people's thoughts on it before I start.

Good to hear Sduibek...
Yep yep ;)

What've you been up to lately, with regards to Fallouty things?

Okay, cool.

I actually think it would be a lot of fun... believe it or not, there's some stuff in FIXT that I haven't actually "played" much (beyond testing), and it's been a couple years since I actually played a game of Fallout just to play it.

So it will kind of be a multi-purpose thing.... people will get another Let's Play of Fallout 1 (as if there aren't enough already, haha), will get to see me show off, explain, and discuss all the things FIXT adds to the game, and I'll get to play through the game, which I haven't done in a while :)

I am working to come up with priorities hierarchy for the release.

Should this order be changed or does it make sense as-is?

Listed from most important to least important

1. "Bug Fixes Only" install option, customizable install
2. Fixing crashes/freezes
3. Game-stopping bug fixes that aren't a freeze or crash
4. Removing dumb stuff (like restored Elder)
5. Make sure NPC additions like Use All Weapons is working properly
6. Improve the readme with a clear and understandable list of what FIXT changes
7. Expand and improve troubleshooting guide
8. All other bug fixes
9. New additions/features/changes

If you are planning on making a customizable install, why not instead of removing what is considered dumb (I'm not sure what's dumb about the elder) put a tag informing about its silliness in the install option? Aside of that, your list seems fairly right.

Well, at the very least Elder needs to be fixed because he gives player overpowered items, which I forgot to disable.

But yeah, fair enough. Making them optional could make more sense.

UPDATE: Fulltime work on FIXT will begin this weekend.

I plan to have a testing release up as soon as possible, which I'll need testers for. So if you'd like to be a tester, please indicate that by posting here. I'll start a thread for it when release date gets closer.

NEW PLANNED MAJOR ENDGAME FEATURE:

SPOILER ALERT, IF YOU HAVEN'T BEATEN THE GAME THEN DON'T READ THIS, SERIOUSLY

[spoiler:29bce92922]Next version of FIXT will include option to continue playing after being dipped, if player chooses dialog option with The Master or The Lieutenant that causes him/her to be dipped.

This option will be chosen DURING INSTALL, but will be able to be changed once you've begun the game if you choose (via the included loader that TarkinMX has been working on)

I want it this way because I think having a prompt come up in-game would be retarded and distracting.

Player will have choice on install:
1) Can't use "small" weapons as Super Mutant (pistols, rifles, etc)
or
2) Can use all weapons as normal, but they will display as other weapons. This is because Super Mutant only has graphics frames for Big Guns and non-pistol-sized Energy Weapons: minigun/gatling laser, flamer/laser rifle/plasma rifle, and rocket launcher.

Also, because of how Super Mutant graphics work, player won't be able to run (which is unfortunate, but, meh)

I haven't decided much beyond those things. Feedback is appreciated as always.

Idea inspired by FIXT player's feedback and from these:

Sorry if this is a potentially obvious question, but what is the check to have "relations" with Tandi?

I couldn't resist, I hacked the exe real quick to make super mutant the default look for the PC, and grabbed some screens of a mutie-player taking out the Khans:

Built myself a little utility to save time and clicks. I have no idea why I didn't make one years ago.

Does that tool require .NET, or is it written against Win32?

Answer/feedback to sdb spoiler, so read at ur own peril...

[spoiler:412d47f139] I dont think Mutants should be able to use guns... Just imagine trying to put a finger thats at least twice (prolly more) the width of a normal human finger to pull the trigger... u could use ur finger nails I guess, but still...

Big guns only FTW, in my opinion. In no Fo game do Muties use small guns as far as i know, player should b no exception.[/spoiler:412d47f139]

Elitech fair enough, thanks. I think I'll do it that way for now.

@all: Tonight (and probably tomorrow too) I'm compiling a list of all the scripts that need to be included in Bug Fixes Only. It's actually not too bad, mostly all I have to do is read through my Changes Log :D
