Fallout 1 mod Fallout Fixt - next release will be some time in Jan 2020

I could use testers for the ghoul irradiation code so if you'd like to test it, please let me know and I'll send you the details.

Sorry if this has already been answered, but I don't really want to check through 34 pages of comments and reading the original post didn't answer my question.

I just bought Fallout 1 today and I'm having an issue where the screen goes black every now and then, and I have to "rub" my mouse around the screen to fix it only to have it go black again. Does this mod fix that?

Yes.

Welcome to the forum! :)

If you would prefer to play Fallout "clean" before playing with my mod, an easy fix is to hit F1 twice -- this brings up and then closes the help menu, and since it takes up the whole screen that will "re-draw" the screen making the black go away. Going to Character screen does the same thing, mostly.

Fallout Fixt contains a screen refreshing program that solves this problem. It can also be obtained separately- but you'd have to Google that. The nice thing about Fixt is that the game is run via a batch file and so you don't have to run the game and then Alt/Tab to run the screen refresh program!

Hi everyone ! I did a quick search and found on the feedback topic that there was a French version in this mod. I however don't know how to turn it in French. Can anyone help me out on this ? I have the Steam version of the game, by the way ! :D

Hi!

Yes, all you should need to do is open fallout.cfg and change it to "Language=French". Let me know if that works for you.

They are still the original files unfortunately, so some dialogs won't work properly. All translations of FIXT will be by fans, and I haven't gotten help from someone to do the French translation yet.

Thanks for your answer, I'll give it a shot. ^^

I think I'm pretty good when it comes to English -> French translations. As a matter of fact, I did a playthrough of System Shock 2 on Youtube and took on myself to do the entire translation of the game by way of subtitles incorporated in the video. It's not 100 % perfect, of course, it's not a professional work, but I'm pretty proud of myself, considering the time I spent doing it. ^^

I could give you an hand for the mod if the process isn't to technical. Just tell me what to do.

EDIT : Tried your thing, and it works. Thanks a lot !

Yeah if you're willing to help with translations that would be great.

Basically it consists of comparing the existing English files to the FIXT English files, seeing what's new.

Then you take the existing French files and just change the parts that differed between the two English versions. Does that make sense?

I haven't done it, I'm just brainstorming that I think that's probably how I'd do it.

Yes, I think I got it. I have no real idea of where I'm supposed to look, though. In Data/Text, I assume ? And once I'm here, I suppose I'll need a special software to edit the text files ? And where are the original text files, and the new ones ? Sorry, that's a lot of questions but I never really tried looking into the game's files before that. ^^

Well first things first, the program many of us use for this sort of thing is Beyond Compare, so you should take a look at that. It's useful for comparing the two English versions (mine and original). http://www.scootersoftware.com/ I'm sure there's other programs that do the same thing though.

.MSG files are just plain-text files. You should open them in a generic text editor such as Notepad or TextEdit or Notepad++. On my computer I've also added the file type to Windows file types so they open in Notepad on a double-click.

And yeah, files will be in {Fallout}/DATA/TEXT/ENGLISH.

I will upload the files to Dropbox and send you the link when I'm done. It might take a while because my internet connection at the moment is very slow.

All right. I'm currently in vacations and my Internet access can be a bit random from time to time, but I'll keep my eyes open for your files. ^^

1.) When you return Neal's urn he says that the drinks will be free from then on but they still show up in dialog as costing caps.

2.) The Good Old Games version replaces every instance of the word addiction with craving. So, Nuka Cola Craving rather than Nuka Cola Addiction. Annoying. . .

Edit

3.) The little addiction warning box that pops up on the left side of the screen says Chem. Not sure if it did this in the American version- but I thought it best to mention it in case.

Further Edit

4.) Withdraw is called downtime. . .

Yet Another Edit

5.) I was unable to complete the quest Dispose Of Merchant if I used Super Stimpacks to kill Hightower and his wife. Kane kept complaining that I hadn't finished the job. . .

Thank you

Just want to pop in here and say a massive thank you to Sduibek and all others involved in this mod: THANK YOU. Just like F2 restoration project has become the "must get F2 mod", the FIXT mod is becoming the "must get F1 mod". Keep going at it and please remember there are many who greatly appreciate what you are doing in making this masterpiece of a game even better! Keep up the great work Sduibek and all others that keep making this mod better and better.

Ryan does the GOG version say chem and downtime and craving even after installing my mod?

Presently, I'm using TeamX's patches along with the N.P.C. patch- not FIXT. But as your patch/modification is the best long term solution to these sort of things I thought I'd mention it. If you'd prefer I didn't continue to list issues as I find them on this basis I would understand.

It should be easy enough to determine if this a European version/Good Old Games issue by looking at the files, no? The Good Old Games version lacks children, for example. So, these other issues seem in line with that.

Okay, sounds good. Thank you. And yes please do continue reporting them; a couple of those bugs I was not aware even existed (such as Hightower and Neal's free drinks)
