What's really depressing is that we've barely seen any mentions of VanBuren from these journalists. Fucking lazy lolteens with their free games. History started with the xbox for these fucking assholes.

I dont have the knowledge or patience to do it but I would love to see a compilation of what each reviewer said about fallout 3 and new vegas. How they praise everything in fallout 3 and then bash it in NV previews/reviews.

Maybe they won't be that numerous, the majority of the mutants are likely the dumb ones and the few smart ones are the leaders.

Maybe the number of total muties will be pretty low as well since the story seems to focus on NCR and Caesar's Legion.

It's really hard to filter out what's real and what's just this low-quality preview getting its facts mixed up. It seems to indicate we'll see Vault 87 Mutants there which is just impossible, and also seems to indicate there's just a three-way split between dumb-smart-Nightkin.

Honestly, how do you read something so ill-informed for facts?

I'm pretty sure that the mention of Vault 87 mutants is an error on the previewer's part and assumption based on the fact that the FNV ones do look like the FO3 ones.

The split seems to be between the remnants of the Master's Army, where the percentage of smart mutants is higher, and they are much more organized, and the second generation (mutated Enclave slaves), all or almost all of which are dumb due to none of them being of "pure stock".

You have to filter your mind and remember it is an Xbox magazine you are reading.

We can also draw attention to the "History Lesson" toolbar which asserts that there "won't be any explicit connection to those" (Fallout 1 and 2).

I'm pretty sure directly using one of the most prominent factions from Fallout 2 is a pretty explicit connection, not to forget the Nightkin and the fact that the game takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada, which - guess what - is located all the way at the southern tip, which - guess what - is right above the southern end of California, which is where the originals took place.
I'm pretty sure that if gaming journalists have been making assumptions regarding areas such as Area 51 with absolutely no evidence beyond the reasoning that "Area 51 is a pretty obvious place to have in a game in Nevada" that they could at least make the assumption that a game that takes place pretty much right next to the ass-end of the two games that created the god-damn series developed by the group that developed those same games would - I don't know - have obvious explicit connections to those games?

Sweet Moses, no one in gaming rags check their facts, proof-reads, or hell, even bothers. I'm somewhat certain these articles are written in a single sitting with minimal notes taken during the whole process.

Because people that are writing for the Official XBox Magazine should waste time talking about PC exclusives that never saw the light of day?

I don't think they mention Vault 87. They just reference Fawkes as an example of an intelligent SM. It could be a distinction between the Enclave slaves and the original guys (in which case the "generation" comment makes some sense), or it could just be the difference between smart and dumb SMs.

The SM magician from FO2 wasn't particularly dumb, though, was he?

Considering a rather significant portion of this game is tied to and based on material from Fallout 1, 2 and Van Buren, it is in fact pretty shocking how little all previews discuss it.

    Shocking, but predictably incompetent.

It says "the violently thick ones we're used to turning into a bloody pulp". Since every reference to the past in OXM is to Fallout 3, it's not a leap to think they're talking Vault 87 mutants there.

He wasn't smart. He was just crazy.

To be fair, the ones in the machine grenade launcher screenshot look exactly like the FO3 ones.

Hrrrrm....because this game has more in common with it than FO3, mayhap? Homework v. Laziness...no excuses.

I don't know. It's a little silly to think that articles in OXM should be written for you, or anyone on this board really.

I suspect that they are just saying that those SMs are dumb/permanently hostile, like almost all of the SMs in FO3. It is funny that they screwed up their own "generation" distinction.

He was also very aggressive. That might be the more important distinction.

    That's neither relevant nor true.

The generation distinction is not their own, it's something they heard during Sawyer's presentation but did not know what it meant.

    Wrong.

    * Relevant because it's an important topic in regards to the current game.

    * True because Sawyer & Avellone are developing it and including many things from VB.

How could you possibly think your statement quoted above is correct?

Why is this so retarded? I knew monkeys could learn sign language, but since when did they begin writing articles?

What irked me was, that the solar laser was the most intriguing part. I do not like this idea, but luckily there was a 'if you have the necessary skills'.

Yeah, well didn't the Chosen One clear out the Mariposa Base after the Enclave left the muties inside? He'd have to enter it at least, else the muties trapped in the base would die of hunger (the elevator was not working, they had no food)? It's a pretty isolated base, so I doubt many people would wander there and stay long enough to mutate into full-fledged super mutants.

    Oh well, we'll see.
