Fallout: New Vegas OXM preview scans

Nightkin are back, as blue-skinned Super Mutants who've gone schizophrenic through Stealth Boy use.

Schizophrenic huh? I guess that means there won't be any negotiating or dialogue with them like there was with all the non schizophrenic supermutants that we encountered before.

Oh wait...

As for the article, should these people even be called game journalists? I mean what is it about a preview that makes it journalism. They should be called game critics at the very least. That way they won't be an insult to the profession of journalism. I reckon they would give Fox News a run for their money on how biased and unprofessional they are in calling themselves 'journalists'.

Also points go to the 'history lesson'. Just to clue you in OXM, it's called an Elderscrolls sequel, not an Oblivion sequel. Alternatively you can call it a sequel to Oblivion. But the way it is written now it makes you look like you think the whole series was called Oblivion (either that or you conviently assume that the series started with Oblivion, much like you've done for Fallout).

Edit: Oh look - Oblivion 5 is coming.

My god.

On topic of the OXM doing a Rybicki: OXM Review of Fallout 3.
Fallout 3 is, quite literally, a tale of following in your father’s footsteps, but you choose how closely or how distantly you toe that line in everything from a slew of tough moral conundrums to the exact route you take. You can be the saintly savior of all you encounter, a vile murderer of all you see, or more probably, you’ll find a comfortable gray area somewhere in between.
Urgh. You know, if I ran a gaming magazine, I'd do away with the mandatory point system. Just review it, say what I thought about it, and leave it at that. Annoy Metacritic a little, ya know?

BTW, the subscribers should already have the new issue of PC Gamer US. Wonder if it's the same article as UK edition, or a new one.

Well, you're going a bit far there. The gameplay being based on Fallout 3 still does matter.

I think it's a minor thing. I mean sure I love turn based combat and will miss it but I would much much much rather have an engaging storyline and characters. The gameplay means so little to me at this point. I just want a fallout game that can keep my interest and not bore me to death.

SPECIAL now has descriptions - eg CHA 10 = Cult Leader, EN 1 = Basically Dead.
Regarding this one, if you look closely at this I think you can see all the descriptions for Strength.

10 - ???
9 - Doomsday Pecs
8 - ??? Strongman
7 - Beach Bully
6 - Barrel Chested
5 - Average Joe
4 - Lightweight
3 - Doughy Baby
2 - Beached Jellyfish
1 - Wet Noodle

Can't make out the first word of 8 and all of what 10 says. Certainly more humorous than a Baby's book eh?

10 - Hercules' Bigger Cousin
8 - Circus Strongman

I'll just edit those into the newspost.

From the look of the advertisement on page 1, there won't be a nuka-cola quest; Sunset is the cola of the west. I don't think this has picked this up yet.

On a side note, Those geckos are some of the best models i've seen with this engine. Is it a Beth or Obsidian employee(s) who does the modelling? That way I know if I can praise or rage.

Hahaha. Yup. Oblivion 5.

They've done away with the pre-Todd Howard Fallout, and now they've done away with the pre-Todd Howard Elder Scrolls.

Oblivion 5? Please.

I play games mainly for the gameplay. When I want to play another "Fallout" game, I want it to be turn-based with isometric view.
It doesn't even have to be set in the Fallout setting, it just needs to have all the strengths of the Fallout's gameplay, while fixing its weaknesses.

Behind the closed doors:
"Lets wait and see if we can shut this interplay mmo thing down before we decide what skins to apply to our new game."

Eric Blair (Orwell) would be proud. A little history re-write.

There's no reason to inform people about history?
In this case, there's definitely no reason. It would be reasonable if they used FO1&2 history to explain the SM distinction. They should have done that. But there's really no reason to talk about VB unless they specifically wanted to give a detailed history lesson for its own sake.

Tic-toc-to-miss-the-point. If they were writing for me, they wouldn't have to mention Fallout 1, 2, Van Buren. I already know that. It's exactly because they're not writing for me, but for people ignorant of this history, that they should make an effort to educate them.
He was/is a journalist If you dont believe BN, then I guess you dont believe anyone Dino.

Again it would be relevant to mention previous games and work related to Fallout while writting some article about Vegas.

I still think one of the more impressive things about the article is that OXM managed to misquote themselves.

Are their journalistic abilities almost as bad as my photoshop skills? Yes, yes they are.

So you're given a Vault jumpsuit to wear at the start of the game? I'd rather wear the rags I nearly died in. Going around in the jumpsuit is like wearing a Hawaian shirt and fannypack in Thailand.

This is OXM U.K., so of course they're gonna be a bunch of fucking idiots. I'd rather take retarded monkeys writing the article than those dumbasses.

The article was disappointing in the fact that it was nothing new that I didn't know about ( other than the BoS returning and the small info about the Nightkin ).

Clearly, you have a responsibility to push the series forward, but there's also nothing worse than a misguided attempt to differentiate a folow-up that only ruins what everyone loved about the original. Throw in a new developer - New Vegas is being developed by Obsidian rather than Bethesda's in-house team - and there is no doubt that a fair few Fallout fans will be more than a little concerned that this could be a recipe for nuclear disaster.
