Fallout: New Vegas PSM3 scans

New Vegas doesn't tell a single-player story, but weaves decision into the gameworld and gives you greater power to influence things than Fallout 3 did

This i like. Curious to see how much of it is true. Coupled with the 3 major factions will hopefully result in a more Fallout 1/2 feel - not seeing a faction in particular as the enemy (at least up to a point).

It has blue skies
According to Fallout lore the bombs didn't desolate America's west coast so, unlike the capital wasteland of Fallout 3 the skies aren't dominated by dust and clouds.

Awesome... how long did they have to think before they came up with that busted logic?

just a small observation: we get to see a dialogue screen in this preview and it looks exactly like the one in FO3, which likely means there won't be any huge blocks of texts available as responses. this will probably limit the quality of the dialogue, I'm afraid...

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't mini-guns supposed to be multi-barrel?

That looks like a grenade launcher. Something like:

yeahh, but that is the Rorschach test. I wouldn't expect more than one word responses to briefly flashed images of ink spots. Oh shit, ink spots! I wonder if that was meant as a throwback?

Wasn't it possible to scroll up and down in the answer options? Then there is still some room left to give bigger text options.

I think you are confusing quantity with quality. Go play Bloodlines.

The companion management submenu seems to continue a lot of the interface improvements from Fallout 2 (that got left out of Fallout 3). The fact that you don' t have to navigate chunky dialog options to address companion playstyle is a welcome addition.

hey, I'm not saying dialogue options must be long to be good. but one of the things I really liked about dialogue in FO1+2 was the long and often humorous texts. especially when the dialogue options were funny because they were so long.

I actually don't remember the first game as being particularly loquacious. I think they'll do fine with console-friendly fonts.

:(
- Sounds like another amnesiac story
- Stats are identical to F3
- Perks every level
- VATS is back only now it's yellow
- Mini-nukes are mentioned

:)
- You indeed do NOT see all possible dialog lines; you only see all the lines of a particular version of dialog, that is determined by your stats. This is what I thought and was hoping Sawyer meant.
- Genuine choices that have more impact on the world
- Better writing and humor

I'd say that a lot of the stuff highlighted in there sounds quite good.

sure does. the promises of shades of grey seemed a laughable joke a few years ago but now...i'll actually give the Obsidian devs the benefit of the doubt here.

one of the most important things for me...something which i continuously harped on was the importance of the world responding to your actions...and i'm very glad to see this idea reinforced as a major facet of this game. also funny to see the mag call FO3 trite because of the inverse. lulz.

and all of this seems promising and exciting...though it seems impossible to wipe the sour taste of Fallout 3 bile present in those screens off my mouth. and ffs this goddamned mutant tranny is already feeling like something dumb Todd said which kept getting repeated. we're not going to stop seeing or hearing about it anytime soon.

The initial similarities between this game and the last are sure to ruffle a few virtual feathers of the vocal minorities on the internet

I didn't realize PSM was a racist magazine

Or as an technology development house as mentioned in the good ending of Fallout 1, one that is determined to stay out of the affairs of people of the wasteland.
More interested in their own survival and the gathering of technology than playing knights of the wasteland.

The only reason they would come into is if they should be threatened or someone steals their stuff.

Or they could be like in FO2, a decadent institution that expanded too much and is good to nothing anymore. That could explain why they wouldn't be part of the conflict, and therefore not really a 3rd faction.

Yeah, because we all know you can flesh up a deep and interesting story with moral choices and consequences, with just 10 words phrases. (And I'm being generous with 10 if we are talking about Fallout 3)

No... No, in fact you can't. Just go back to your cavern.

Well, Chris himself said that Reno was cool, but didn't really fit into the Fallout setting (in the way it was made up). So I guess it will be somehow different this time.

You got me confused here. Didn't Chris design and supervise New Reno in Fallout 2 ?

There are already 3 factions - Caesar's Legion, NCR and the New Vegas locals, who would gladly get rid of both.

I didn't read anything about amnesia, only that you didn't know who tried killed you.

I can't be sure, but the notion that your character was shot in the head makes a very good case for amnesia. You also have to take some tests to determine your attributes which may mean you have become a blank slate from the injury.

It was never directly mentioned. Possibly, PSM didn't pick up on it.

There is no mention of amnesia of any kind in PC Gamer nor in PSM. The tests are just a way of creating your character through dialogue, like the GOAT in FO3, they do not indicate amnesia.
