At this point you can only wait until it unlocks Twinkie.

goddammit. can all you gamernerds stop being so vague? WHAT DOES ANY OF THIS MEAN? should i cancel the preload? is the preload a good decision and i should go to sleep and be able to magically play when i wake up?

stop with the non-answers, k? thanks.

all i know is that after installing Steam, not being able to install the game, i saw the "Pre Load" button on Steam that reads "To pre load Fallout New Vegas so you'll be ready to play the moment it's released, etc, etc" click this button.

so i did.

Try this: delete Fallout: New Vegas from within Steam, ie. make sure the local game cache is deleted and no longer downloading. Next, go to Start/Run and put this in the location field:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" - install X:

Obviously change the location of Steam to wherever you installed it, and change 'X' to the letter of the disc drive currently holding the FO:NV DVD.

Chillax a little. I understand how frustrating these things can be and how they're inconveniencing the end user but it's not like we designed the system or it was our choice for Obsidian to employ Steamworks.

Brother None, you getting this immediately? IIRC when Fallout 3 came out you waited some time or were waiting to receive a copy.

I was in no rush. GameBanshee got a review copy and even tho' I'm doing the review it went to Buck, coz again, what's the hurry. I should be getting an unlock code today or tomorrow and will play it when it is released for Europe. I'm doing the GB review, plus will add to an impression piece for NMA that'll be up a few days after European release. Vince is doing the NMA review, he did an amazing job on the Fallout 3 review.

For a short moment, I thought I saw Moira Brown.
You should focus on the text here :D

1) Will I have to shoot anyone? Because I really want to shoot someone.
2) As long as you dont want me to kill someone, I am interested in the job.
3) What kind of caps are we talking here?

and yes, shes ugly as hell

It means that the game is installed on your hard drive but encrypted, and the moment it's officially released by Steam time it'll be decrypted and you'll be able to play it.

No change.

Twinkie, don't preload. It essentially means the game is downloading from Steam's servers. Choose "Library" from the steam menu and right-click on Fallout:NV. Choose "Delete Local Content". Then, once it unlocks, we can run from the CD again to get it to grab the files off of the disk rather than over the internet.
I love steam, but stuff like this is lame.

lawlz.

well that's all i fucking ever intended to do with this midnight cocksucker anyway! hahaha. i just wanted to drink a few shots of bourbon, install the game and go to bed!

finally an answer from somebody speaking a language i understand. thank you.

I'm just as flustered as you, twinkie. Problem is my net is running as slow as shit and it took a miracle to even get running steam right. I feel really bad for those unlucky few who don't have a net connection.

Anyway, I tried messing around with the pre-downloader but it keeps crashing my steam every time. I'm just leaving it alone. For now I'm just hoping my net can stay up till 2, so I can install my damn game, get an hour or two of game play and get to sleep so I can at least have some semblance of rest for my morning classes tomorrow.

Fuck steam, seriously.

Well Tragic the Garnering will be in a gay. I don't like Black Jack.

Three days doesn't seem like much, but it's really frustrating when you know that the Steam PC Version for North America and the UK will be identical, i'm not even sure licensing issues even exist. *sigh*

yeah, i too am staring at the pre-load button. i, however, did buy it through steam because gamestop weren't taking any more collector's edition preorders. and while it's nice to have the disc to reinstall and such, looks like it's fucking pointless this time unless you have the interwebs and steam.

if i get impatient, i'll take a bus over to bellevue and into valve's offices to hassle those guys.

Damn, guys, stop whining about 2-3 hour delay :)
I'm all screwed with Steam changing the unlock date for me in the last hour, because I live in Russia. Proxies and VPNs don't help, so I have to wait another 3 days for fuck's sake. This makes me angry as hell :(

well I think the reason behind it might be different laws in different nations. You know Aliens vs Predator fans in Germany have been screwed royaly. Why ? As Steam locks out any German user from buying or downloading the game over Steam. Just cause they decided not to let the German market rewview the game and eventually get a "cenorship" yeah ... like its going to work that way. All they would get would be a high rating making it an 18+ game. Nothing more nothing less. Game developers are NOT forced to cencor their games in Germany and the games usualy will not be put on any index cause of violance ~ what is a clear no go is fascism or Nationalsocialistic symbols. They will just get high grading. Which is understandable.
